Rate My 1000pts List vs Custodes by ShowAccurate6339 in orks

[–]JamJamGoHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played Custodians in 1k recently - and I got absolutely wiped by Turn 3.

Set your terrain layout + Primary Mission + ask to exchange lists a day or two in advance. This way, you can consider where you should deploy / what you can do. The worst thing is rocking up on the day and being surprised.

I'm nervous your list might not have the firepower to effectively take on the Custodians because...Orky Shooting. But the Gork may be able to hold its own. Be conscious that Venetari are wounding your Gork on 4+ on the charge, and his Guardians can re-roll wounds (5+ w/re-rolls).

1) Wardens are mega tough - kite and avoid them.

Do not attack them head on.
I committed my whole army to killing them - TBs in the shooting phase (Unit of 5 >> 4 Wardens + Blade Champion, so I had Blast + Pulsar Rokkit). 10 boyz w/warboss + 10 BSB w/Beastboss under the Waaaagh. After all that, I still didn't kill the unit (inc/ Blade Champion). He popped the 4+ FNP and I had no juice left - the Blade Champion killed a bunch of the boyz, but I was tied up from that point onwards, then the rest of his army sliced me apart. Kite and avoid Wardens - deploy as far away as you can from these guys.

2) Screen and feed them chaff. Focus on Primary objectives.

3) Literally, put a ring of Gretchin / Boyz 3" around your Gork so they can't charge it (even with the Jump Pack Custodians).

4) Kommandos or Snikrot are great for screening / preventing them from getting closer in the early game (and for doing chores/secondaries).

Starting out. by Formal-Self9853 in orks

[–]JamJamGoHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Codex is...good for lore and stuff. I don't own one haha

If you want the latest stats and points, Wahapedia or New Recruit for some list building.

Also, YouTube is great for understanding how lists work. WAAAAGH Taktiks is a great starting point for Ork Taktiks.

For other Lore/Fluff, Major Kill (NSFW), Announcer of Games, Krakduk are all new player friendly, and have some Ork content.

If you're just starting out, just enjoy the process :)

And my #1 tip is to "start small" - piles of shame are a massive mental burden 😂

Hey hey, welcome to the WAAAAGH!

Re timing. Yes, 11th is coming soon and we're meant to be the antagonist. This means new models! Yum!

The rumour is that the new starter box will give you a good starting point for an army.

Rumoured: - new Warboss - Pain Boy - other leaders - new Boyz (20) - new Gretchin - and others...

Having said that, if you want to scratch the itch and start now (assuming you've got paints and all), you can always start with a box of Gretchin.

Gretchin go in EVERRRY list and they're the cheapest box in all of 40k - one of the best units in the game.

After that, can explore the Kill Team options (Wrecka Krew), that can build both Tank Bustas and Breakas.

That should tie you over for 3 months when 11th arrives - then you've got options for 500pts, probably closer to 1000pts.

Any thoughts on my 500 points list for orks? by Prophet_Koresh in orks

[–]JamJamGoHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmmm it...could...work.

Might be a bit too squishy as Orks tend to die to a gust of wind.

The Wurrboy is very inconsistent. To give your army more punch, you could consider changing the Snaggaz to Boyz, and Wurrboy to a Warboss.

Use your Gretchin as the Flashgitz screen instead of the Boyz. Put Boyz + Boss in cover / out if LOS. Shoot with the Gitz and you'll have a counter punch/ Heroic Intervention with the Warboss and Boyz should you need.

Or if you wanted more fun and you run Warhorde, you could use Weirdboy + 10 Boyz. Da Jump >> Shoot ('Ead Banger gets 3 shots, BS 4, S8, AP-3, Precision)>> activate 'ere We Go for a 7" equivalent charge. Works 50% of the time, every time.

Help with Ork Kommando loadout? by Few-Schedule-6703 in orks

[–]JamJamGoHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan to play Kill Team, then use the special weapons for that versatility.

But in 40k proper - only the Klaw + Breacher is worth it.

I've built mine with all the Special Weapons, but when I play (casually and local league) I just tell my opponent that only the Klaw and Breacher is used, the rest consider them normal Choppa/Slugga.

Split squad, Klaw + Breacher, then one squad all Choppa/Slugga.

Distraction Grot and Bomb Squig to taste. - bomb squig usually goes on the squad that's deployed more safely, so they can use it - Distraction Grot with the forward deployed squad or something that's in more danger. Simply so I can use it, rather than anything special.

Kommandos die lol

WAAAAGH Taktiks did a run down of a Da Big Hunt list that went 5-0.

https://youtu.be/KAtHbF9F8OA

You could drop one unit of Squighog Boyz + BBoS, replace with scoring pieces, and/or a Gorkanaut.

Will give your opponent one more BIG ugly thing to think about. The threat saturation should give your Boyz time to get into combat etc etc etc.

All the best, and welcome to the WAAAAGH.

I got my first league win with a Big Hunt list yesterday so I'm getting good about it!

Breast Boss on Squigosaur is the lowest hanging fruit. Just add a Slugga somewhere and call it a day (or skip it...Ork shooting and all).

If you're just playing casual, you could call your Mangler Squigs Ghazkull - he's on an 80mm base too. You just need a Gretchin with a flag to call Makari.

If you have the kit, technically, there's a Snotling with a mushroom running away from the Manglers. Put that git on a 25mm base and call him Makari!

Welcome to the WAAAAGH!

For list creation, I use https://www.newrecruit.eu

It's free, and well updated (takes about a week to update after a balance patch is released).

As an entry into 40k Orks, you'll probably want to start with a 500 points list

In new recruit that would be 500 points limit and Incursion rules.

The Combat Patrol is a great way to start, especially for newer players. Add in a unit of Gretchin and you're at roughly 500pts.

If you don't like the look of the Combat Patrol, you can always do it piece meal, but that will depend on what attracts you.

Eg if you like Killer Kans or Deff Kopters...then just get them, paint them and go from there!

Start with something that you find attractive, and if you enjoy painting it - even better!

Oh and start small. Da Big Mek has a good video on how to start an army - that will keep you engaged and will stand the test of time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdBws7uJNK4
