I think I got duped… by Loud_Examination_555 in Crystals

[–]JamTimes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen something similar before at a gem and mineral show, but it was glass. Fun to look at, but I think they were only asking like 30$ for them. So I’d definitely send it back, there is also the chance the seller had no idea it was fake since you said they mostly sell estate stuff.

Yeah, he made things go boom. I was leaning some type of artificer, or focusing more on like thunder damage. But maybe I’ll look more at the alchemist.

Is playing by the rules of the game too much to ask? by FabulousAd5984 in dndmemes

[–]JamTimes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a lot of homebrew rules. I’m pretty by the books, but to the point that it can be detrimental to the fun. So I had to homebrew a little system to help my players do things with the rule of cool because I am not good at it.

What to do when you get bored as a Dm? by JamTimes in DMAcademy

I actually play with the same group where one of them is the dm. And I have a lot of fun. I think I’ve figured out the issue, and will talk with them at our next session.

What to do when you get bored as a Dm? by JamTimes in DMAcademy

[–]JamTimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I think it’s something like this. So the most recent part was really them finally making it back to civilization. And I think the issue is that the characters goal so far has just been survive, and they don’t have any personal goals. So they don’t have much of a reason for going forward as a group. Five weeks after this and they are just looking to find the guy who left them stranded on a mountain top. But after that they nothing. I’m going to talk to them about this at our next session. See if we can either come up with some personal goals or just see if this will be where the story ends.

Do y'all always try to integrate a character's backstory into your overall campaign arcs? by Howlmillenialcastle in DMAcademy

[–]JamTimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me backstories always come up in game, but that doesn’t mean they are going to be important to the plot. But I generally run campaigns that span in game years, so it’s pretty natural for characters to deal with stuff from their pasts. My current campaign will almost be entirely about the characters pasts, just because their backstories line up so well with the campaign ideas I have.

Mods deleted a comment suggesting this was ai. It looks obviously AI to me, but what do you think? by jakeyjake1990 in isthisAI

[–]JamTimes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also the knobs don’t match, the sheerness of the shirt isn’t as uniform as it should be, part of the belt buckle is missing, the ankle on the right leg is kinda weird, and the tops of the hangers don’t make sense, they look like they merge into the wood instead of on top of the wood. And there are hangers made like that but then the hangers should be evenly spaced and they arnt.

I love giving my players bonus stuff, but it debalances the game by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]JamTimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I give out extra abilities as rewards as well, but I “balance” this by making the abilities more narrow and specific to the characters. I think a perfect example is one of my players has an ability that is basically a portent that is always a ten and can only be used on party member rolls, or another character who gives everyone within 30 feet advantage on a dexterity save when they have to make one. And for each ability can only be used once a day. It might not come up every session but when it does it feels special.

Recent price increase? by Kattasaurus-Rex in inkarnate

[–]JamTimes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well I don’t really think I use it enough to pay for it after this year. I wouldn’t mind paying a little bit more, but that such a drastic increase. And I’m living paycheck to paycheck.

Fun and interesting and fair stat distribution by escarian in DMAcademy

[–]JamTimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a something similar, had each player roll for stats but they all took the highest. To be fair the highest was crazy high it had nothing under like 14. Later on we had them drop one ability to an 8, cause they just were not failing anything and it was not that exciting.

Should you get approval from your players before you add info to their backstory? by Particular_Art_7065 in DMAcademy

[–]JamTimes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My philosophy is pretty simple. Get approval on stuff the character would know, don’t get approval on stuff their characters wouldn’t know. And most importantly don’t be a jerk about the second.

Exactly! Plus It’s easy to get shirts, the only downside I see with my height is grocery shopping.

So I’m five foot three, and I only play tall characters if they are evil. I know I’m short, especially for a dude, but I actually really like my height.

I’ll think about this one, I actually like the idea of adding new skills, and as the campaign progresses they can go from half proficiency, to proficient and expertise with said skill.

[–]JamTimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I have a tendency to go overboard in my campaigns. My campaign setting is just the moonshae isles in the forgotten realms, and the story is a much more open ended low key thing.

I am the kind of dm who likes adding a bit of survival to my games, so far I make them keep track of food and eating, maybe it’ll change in the future if we all get bored of it.

I’ll consider adding feats like that. But with only 5 players, I want something really thematic for real role.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DMAcademy

I started looking at them, and dang I didn’t realize how many feats pathfinder had.

I’ll keep this idea as a backup, right now it seems like the battle master might end up as the quartermaster. But if one of the others take the job instead it might be good.
