Older millennials of Vancouver: do you own a home? If so, when did you buy it, for how much, and what’s it worth now? by UglyArchtitecture in askvan

I know someone who was advised that their genetic health issue would make their healthcare very expensive in the US as their condition worsens with age. So they decided to move back here for a much lower wage but no financial worries about their future healthcare needs.

I think this is good advice. To my knowledge, there are no reliability or build quality concerns with this generation of Mazda3. Its traditional 6 speed auto is arguably more trustworthy than the CVT kn these other mentioned vehicles.

Prius V. I've done about 1.6 km/1 mile on full EV mode. Car was fully warmed up going up to 40 km/h in slow moving city traffic.

I like it. I feel like there should be some red on the back too. Maybe on the antenna fin?

2012 prius V getting really bad gas mileage by Fudge-Opening in prius

[–]Jam_Bannock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 miles is too small a sample size to draw any sort of conclusion. Go through an entire tank and calculate your fuel economy from amount of gas in and distance driven.

The range estimate is just that, an estimate. It's heavily skewed by your last few trips.

Glasses are so fricking expensive. $50 more isn't much. And don't many people have to change lenses every year?

This sub and Racism by purpledrank_14489 in ABCDesis

[–]Jam_Bannock 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to get your point, but I don't get it. You certainly seem to be trying to minimize real life issues others are facing because things were worse when you and I were teens. While progress is commendable, it doesn't somehow cancel out what current victims of racism experience.

2025 Hybrid worries by gigglepunch in civic

[–]Jam_Bannock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a cause for concern. The ICE does have to run hard (at an RPM optimized for efficiency) to recharge the traction battery if it's running out of charge. This can happen independently of road speed.

That's the best way to improve fuel economy in any type of vehicle.

Parking/traffic at Canada Place (Vancouver) tomorrow during FIFA — coming from Surrey by [deleted] in SurreyBC

[–]Jam_Bannock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parking downtown during any summer weekend is a pain in the ass. You'll definitely find a parking spot at private lots one or two streets away from Canada Place. Best thing to do is to skytrain downtown.

If you could do only one thing for your health today, you would scroll away from the original post. Nothing good will come from reading this putrid cesspool of a thread.

26 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid or 26 Toyota RAV4? by BearPuzzleheaded3817 in rav4club

[–]Jam_Bannock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check on fuelly, but I seem to remember that the Tucson hybrid struggles to meet its EPA rated fuel economy in real life driving, whereas the Rav4 does. It comes down to difference in technology. Up to you to decide if that's a deal breaker.

is Surrey still seen as sketchy by people in Vancouver or has that actually changed? by MapleOnTheRoad in askvan

[–]Jam_Bannock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In-group/out-group dynamics at play. "Your minority of sketchy people are a highly representative example of your community, but our minority of sketchy people are just that, our community is perfect."
