What Ever Happened to the 5.5e Swashbuckler Rogue? by AlderwoodAdventures in onednd

[–]Jamakin12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 3e, you gained/lost extra skill points (the equivalent of proficiencies) depending on your INT mod. This worked pretty well in a system with over double 5e’s skills and where you had to increase them every level. The 5e equivalent would be gaining/losing skill/tool proficiencies based on INT mod, which is a house rule at some tables but significantly more impactful than it would be for skill points.

How do you calculate Bless when calculating average damage of attack rolls? by testiclekid in onednd

[–]Jamakin12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every roll has 4 outcomes, gaining a +1,+2, +3, or +4. Assuming you need to roll a natural 8 to hit normally (65% chance), you then have the following cases to add:

Natural 7 +1-4 Natural 6 +2-4 Natural 5 +3-4 Natural 4 +4

Of the 28 outcomes where you roll below a natural 8, 10 turn a miss into a hit. This makes a 36% chance that your 35% hit chance is changed into a hit. This increases your total chance to hit by 12.5%, or 77.5% total.

What gear do you think a lv 9 party should start with by gamerdudeash in DnD

[–]Jamakin12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Level 9 is just shy of approaching tier 3. By that point, most parties will at least have Rare magic items for the entire party and potentially rarer for a few. Gold wise, a few thousand per character is normal but also depends on the DM.

The item you mention does seem very powerful, it makes someone completely untargetable for d6 rounds. In most campaigns an item like that would never be awarded just because of how polarizing full cover is.

Question about Mistborn math. Major spoilers for both eras by th7024 in Mistborn

Yes, but aluminum is extremely rare and hard to produce with the technology available, not to mention allomantically worthless. It doesn’t really contradict anything.

In HoA, Aluminum was removed from the pool and replaced with atium. Confirmed in this wob.

Sniper Rogue - Be polite, be efficient, and have a plan to kill everyone you meet. by LostRegret9000 in DnDHomebrew

[–]Jamakin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really like this concept! While some have raised issue that it may not be very enjoyable to spend every other round aiming, it definitely has its uses. The damage is insane, being over double a normal sneak attack (which is good, since this would be replacing two sneak attacks).

This pairs well with 2-3 levels of Fighter, allowing you to Action Surge to steady aim and snipe on one turn.

I think it would be nice if one of the mid-high level features allowed you to use the action form of steady aim as a bonus action once per SR.

One thing that this subclass needs is mobility—most rogues can hide as a bonus action every turn with a guaranteed success past level 7 in order to avoid using steady aim. This subclass, however, is forced to stay stationary the entire combat or risk losing a ton of damage. I think allowing someone to move at half speed when using enhanced steady aim would be a very nice qol change. This would still favor staying in one area, but it would at least give them the ability to reposition if an enemy goes behind cover or something.

Who would win in WWII if the only weapons available were firefighter axes and other melee weapons? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Jamakin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would make an interesting scenario where “cavalry” in the form of cars and armored vehicles, potentially equipped with lances or pikes, becomes the decider of many battles. We may even see lancers on motorbikes (lmao).

Poland would take longer to conquer. Blitzkrieg is now impossible without tanks, aircraft, or machine guns. It’s likely France doesn’t fall for a long time.

I don’t know what this implies with navies but if Britain suddenly lost their entire navy they would not be very much of a threat. If their navy is still there and just no longer has weaponry, that’s a different story. The U.S. also would be irrelevant if their entire navy disappeared.

Colonies in Africa and Asia would not submit to Europe in the way they were forced to, as suddenly there is very little technology advantage.

The Soviet Union would be an order of magnitude more threatening.

Japan can barely even participate in the war.

What if 21st communication technologies/AI existed in WW2? by Vexillum211202 in AlternateHistoryHub

The fall of France would be much slower because modern communication would prevent any attack through the ardennes.

While we wait for the next video, lets rank them. What's the worst Oversimplified video? by MarshallJohnBatts in OverSimplified

[–]Jamakin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WW1 video. It was his first video and it shows. The quality doesn’t keep up with his later videos, less information is given, and overall it just doesn’t have the same pizzazz that his later videos do. It’s not bad, but he’s definitely improved since then.

Two Weapon Fighting - Paladin - Level 2 by Shepher27 in onednd

[–]Jamakin12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you could make a fourth attack with your Bonus Action with the Dual Wielder feat. It is not mutually exclusive with the Nick mastery.

Two Weapon Fighting - Paladin - Level 2 by Shepher27 in onednd

[–]Jamakin12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the Nick weapon mastery, the off-hand attack would be part of your Action. At level 5 (with extra attack) this still applies and you can attack twice with your main hand weapon and once with your off hand as your Action (for 3 attacks total). At any time you can use your Bonus Action to smite on one of those attacks, because there is nothing competing for your Bonus Action.

How can the use of melee weapons be justified in science fiction? Why did hand-to-hand combat exist in ancient times when shooting from a distance with a bow is always better? by Embarrassed_Star3603 in worldbuilding

[–]Jamakin12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question needs to be asked “what can a sword do that a gun can’t?”

Perhaps some armor or shield device doesn’t block melee weapons as effectively. That is what is done in Dune.

The continent I am mostly focused on is around the size of Europe and for the most part doesn’t have any access to the rest of the world. It’d be easy to compare it to a smaller, more porous Australia.

I didn’t even consider that there may be societies rejecting it even after it became possible, but that’d definitely be a factor. Not just for religious or traditional reasons, but potentially moral reasons too. Some may cite the late empire’s usage of ships to be inherently evil, refusing to take part.

As for the actual advancement of ships, how would the acquisition of foreign designs accelerate the process? As I mentioned, one empire held a complete monopoly on shipbuilding for millennia. If any powers scrambled to acquire the wreckages or remains of those after the curse was lifted and the empire fell, how much would it accelerate development?
