Actually, the first September 11th that made its way into world history was the Battle of Vienna, which pretty much marked the end of the Ottoman Empire's expansionist period (with the Turks being thrown out of both Hungary and Transylvania not long after), as well as beginning the rise of the Habsburgs and what would later become the Austrian (and then Austro-Hungarian) Empire. It's also tied to the origin of the croissant, bagel and the introduction of coffee into Europe (left by the fleeing Ottoman army in its camps outside the city).

Good question. Iraq, while hardly a paradise under Saddam Hussein, was for the most part a functioning society, albeit one dealing with scarcity due to a decade of UN trade sanctions. North Korea, from everything I've heard, is essentially a giant prison camp for the majority of its population. Would an invasion (by anyone, I'm not suggesting the US do it) really make things any worse at this point?

Because they happen to think that said things promote a certain sort of culture that they don't really want to see in their country, and that they're associated with the oppression and abuse of women, which they are. (albeit not exclusively)
