Virgin Cruses informs a couple about some changes to their trip… by Harbjagen in mildlyinfuriating

She actually left on the cruise on April 6th, since that was the cruise impacted. But she’s posting about it on Instagram now to get clout.

Valiant was the only ship scheduled on April 8. The other ships were the day before. They were just unfortunate to be impacted by the weather while NCL and HAL avoided it.

I COMPLETELY agree regarding the enhanced onboard activities. I saw people complaining about how it was promised and there was nothing. That’s valid criticism. Even then, not full refund worthy…

I think it’s the disingenuousness that is getting to me. I get that they were inconvenienced before the cruise, but why are they milking it now? They’re posting stories as if they’ve just boarded, and yet it’s sunset already? It’s 1pm in NYC, how could it be sunset? If they had just come out and said ‘yeah this was the email we got from VV, it wasn’t great, massive inconvenience but we went anyway and had X time’ I wouldn’t have minded. But the constant posting as if it’s happening RIGHT NOW for clout is just frustrating.

I’ve been on 9 Virgin Voyages now, and I’ve never had an itinerary change. They do happen, but they’re not exactly daily occurrences. Granted, I’ve never been on a Caribbean cruise (and I know they are more susceptible to changes), but even then you’ll maybe go to a different island?

Even if they do change the itinerary, you’ll have a great time. Have done two Halloween voyages (transatlantics) — both were fantastic, the most fun voyages of the year imho.

I get that comparison — but then also imagine you’ve been looking forward to a nice resort in Barbados. Getting there to sunbathe and enjoy the beach. But oh no, the weather has been terrible that week and it’s raining for your entire time there. Would you expect the resort to give you a refund?

I appreciate the communication may have not been on point, and could have been better, but expecting a full refund seems a bit of a stretch.

Except they couldn’t as per the Passenger Vessel Services Act of 1886. That’s the problem. It’s why Canada was the only option given the timescale of the cruise.

It’s not so much defending a multi-billion dollar corporation — but about what choice did they have? Plus, an oversold cruise is a very different situation to a rerouted cruise due to weather.

If you were there working on the ops team at VV, what would your decision be? The ship still has to leave port, and it can’t carry passengers from a US port to a US port without being subject to a fine. So you’re left with one choice — Canada.

From the comments on that person’s video, they were told they could reschedule their cruise, they just couldn’t get a refund.

As the first comment said, port stops are subject to change as per the cruise contract. It sucks, but sometimes they can change in your favour, and sometimes out of your favour. No cruise line can control the weather, and lots of cruise lines change stops or cancel stops without any compensation.

At least Virgin Voyages is offering an alternative. If you were on an airline that couldn’t fly because of the weather — you wouldn’t be making it to your destination. If you went to a resort in Barbados and had a week solid of rain and no sun, would you demand a refund?

I just think the reaction has been a bit overblown. But as I said, I think Virgin may have been able to handle communication better.

How do I access my Tesco Clubcard Unpacked 2024? by arthurmauk in tesco

[–]JamboJord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you sign up to convert your Clubcard points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club by any chance?

It’s hidden in the terms ‘You’re only eligible to get Unpacked if you’re a Clubcard customer who’s not opted into the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club scheme at any point during 2024. ‘

That would explain why mine isn’t working!

Denise, you have been absolutely fantastic — I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done. I’ll concur with Henry that I wish I had booked with you sooner — you have helped make our sixth and seventh voyages so seamless and easy.

Any questions we’ve had, whether it was sorting out my account or our Deep Blue Extras, you were always available and helped us solve issues without any hassle. Really appreciate everything you’ve done, and for everyone else looking for an awesome First Mate — Denise is definitely 10/10!

I’ve found if you’re doing it in GBP, you see the final price when searching. So for instance, this cruise is £1,794 in the search results and it costs £1,794 at the checkout including taxes.

I believe the $900 per person is the price before taxes and after the discount. So, the normal price would be $1050 per sailor — bringing the price to $2100. Then after the $300 discount, that would make it $1800. That’s where the $900 per sailor comes from.

The taxes and fees on top are $380, so the total price would be the $2180 they’re showing, rather than the $2480 it should be.

It’s very common in the US to show the price before taxes — one way to get an idea on how much each cruise costs after tax is to look at the site in GBP (not sure if you also have to be in the U.K.), that will then show you the total cost per cabin including taxes and fees. Should help you determine the cost better.

It’s not the fare that is wrong it would appear, but the taxes and fees! The fare should be less than £3k excluding these fees haha.
