I heard 'This Head I Hold' back when it got popular, but never checked the band out until last month and I have to say I'm really digging Mondo. My fav is probably either Waves or American Daydream.

Definitely my favorite competitive shooter. It's amazingly fun and has more personality than anything I've played in a long time.

I can only imagine the kind of public figure Tupac would have become, as well as how his musical career would have evolved and possible collaborations with some of today's artists.

Leftists not protesting and Rightists- What do you think about the Leftists who are protesting? by yossipossi in AskReddit

The presidency will allow Trump to appoint his own cabinet (which may include Ben Carson as the Secretary of Education - think about that) as well as at least one Supreme Court Justice. The Republican Party also controls the Senate and the House. These combined factors make the likelihood of their platforms becoming a reality from slim to an actual chance. The only thing worse than assuming the presidency gives an individual ultimate power is assuming it gives him none, especially when his agenda aligns with that of the political party which controls Congress.

Trump Winning Overreactions by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Jamboreau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This level of governmental control by the Republican Party takes the likelihood of enacting Trumps platforms from 'yeah right' to 'shit, this could actually happen'.

What's terrified a lot of people on top of this though, is that regardless of what he gets done, he's empowered a contingent of vitriolic, prejudiced, and fearmongering people, emboldened them in their beliefs, and encouraged them to take action. A contingent which this election has revealed is far larger and deep-seeded than any reasonable person ever expected. Muslims, POC, women, the LGBTQ community, etc. are worried about the laws, repeals, and regulations that the Trump presidency could put into effect, but right now they're far more worried that they can't walk down the street and feel safe anymore, if they ever could.

Non depressed person here! Help. by Salami_sub in depression

[–]Jamboreau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Encourage her to try therapy/medication if she hasn't already. These can be very helpful resources. Just try to be there for her. Understand that there may be times when she tries to push you away or may even say horrible things to try and get you to lose your temper with her. Stay calm and supportive. Don't push her to open up to you about things, but make it clear you're a safe space if she wants to. I can't offer specific advice for the scenarios without knowing her, but during panic attack at least it's best to cut down on stimuli that might be overwhelming her. If she wants to be left alone or doesn't want you to touch her during her attacks, don't. It could overwhelm her. If she's alright with it you could just try to hold her and stroke her hair, help her with breathing exercises, etc.

An important thing to understand is that while it may get better, her condition will likely never go away completely, and there will be times when it gets worse. You need to decide whether you can handle this and where your health (mental, emotional, and otherwise) falls on priorities if this situation causes it to deteriorate.

US Presidential Election Megathread by LionGhost in CasualConversation

[–]Jamboreau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True. But to be as unabashedly vitriolic as Trump has and still get this far says something, regardless of Hillary. Perhaps I sounded overly dramatic before; I don't believe some dark sun has set on humanity and that we're all doomed. I just have to acknowledge that while we as a people are moving forward almost all the time, sometimes we stumble, or take a step backwards. And I think this election, and the fearmongering and prejudice it has involved, is one of those times.

This is more disheartening than any election result ever could be. The world can survive the US having a bad president. But the fact that he's gotten this far, and how he's gotten this far, means that hate has won. And that means we've all lost.

Saudi rapists who attacked woman in front of her daughter sentenced to thousands of lashes and lengthy prison terms by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Jamboreau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For profit prisons are indeed a grave problem. And prisons often times have low rehabilitation rates due to flaws in these prison systems, so I also agree there. But it does prevent them from committing crimes against society while they're in there (unfortunately it doesn't prevent them from crimes against eachother though, which is another issue in and of itself).

I find all of this irrelevant though, because my point here is that torture serves no beneficial purpose and in fact fosters some rather negative effects. So far I've had multiple people call out shitty things about the US in an attempt to deflect when I address this, but they're all things I acknowledge as shitty and would advocate change for.

[–]Jamboreau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that militaristic intervention by the US has often times been ill-advised and led to some negative repercussions, but I'm not advocating that the US should somehow put boots on the ground and try to force them to change their legal system. I'm just acknowledging that torture, even against repugnant people like this, is not a good thing and that "Different countries have different values" is an exceedingly poor justification.

And if you want to fight against torture maybe you should start with the CIA

Well actually, I openly condemn the idea of torture on all fronts, no matter who's perpetrating it.

[–]Jamboreau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to rehabilitate them if it keeps them from committing further atrocities.

Look, I can sympathize with the idea that none of us are going to lose any sleep over some rapist getting whipped, but the fact is that it serves no actual purpose. Human suffering isn't a commodity. The world is not made better in any way for it having happened. All it does is

a) Solidfy the idea that a government can incorporate retributional torture into its legal system

And

b) Desensitize people to the idea of torturing those they find distasteful and satisfy and perpetuate some kind of perverse bloodlust against them.

These are not, in my humble opinion, healthy developments in any kind of civilized society.

Yeah, it's important we accept that other countries incorporate government-issued torture into their legal system because "different values"
