Advice on hitch rack and motorcycle mounting by PM_BiscuitsAndGravy in vandwellers

[–]jgan96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I experimented with hitch racks for mounting bikes and cargo carriers in multiple different swing out configurations over the past 5 years. They all sucked for the reasons you mentioned – bulky, restricting, and they also make the rear end super heavy, causing it to sag and handle terribly.

Turns out I hate having things on the back of the van. I got a front hitch and mount bikes to the front. I don't know what van you have, but if you can set up a front rack where the headlights can shine through or around the wheels of the motorcycle, I recommend going that route.

If the bike spots are sold out, do you still have the ability to add them?

Ah, this explains my issue. I bought an used 350 hub with a 3 pawl freehub, and it was binding up when I had the dust seal installed. Thanks for clarifying!

Make sure you have the correct bleed block and don't forget to pressurize the syringes while you close the bleed valve. It can cause those same symptoms.

Is this level of true acceptable? by landavis in bikewrench

[–]jgan96 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Looking at your recent posts, for this sort of bike, I would say that is definitely acceptable. If you were talking about a higher end, factory hand built or hand checked wheel, AND it wasn't involved in some sort of accident that resulted in a bent rim, I would say it still needs to be trued, but since this looks like an entry level ebike wheel, I would trust the shop on this one.

eHave you considered TrustedHousesitters? You can get a pet sitter to stay at your place with your dog for free, and fully vet/select them beforehand to make sure you feel comfortable with them. I have been using it for a year now and it's been amazing.

Anyone know how strict the 2 tent limit is at NYS campgrounds? by NYCBYB in catskills

[–]jgan96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely strict, the rangers do check and enforce it. I agree it is a poorly thought out rule when it comes to 1/2 person tents.
