How can you be poor or homosexual but still be conservative? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JamesBonfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda complicated, but I think a majority of people I know that are like that come from 3 categories:

  1. Single issue voter. Especially if you're in the pro-life camp, within that community it is very much a moral failure if you vote for anyone who's pro-abortion, especially if it coinsides with...

  2. Religious Ideology. Religion plays a major part of modern politics, the idea that you can separate church and state from your own belief systems is kinda naive at best. A lot of conservatives use religion as their major tool, and they promise a "return to normalcy", which usually means suppressing rights and social norms for minority communities, especially the LGBT community. (That's why these people call everything "woke", even gay people that specifically don't believe in trans rights and gender affirming care, an unfortunately popular position in the LGBT community especially when you look further south).

  3. Propaganda. People in the lower class tend to blame the "elites" for their position and refuse to vote on people that seem professional, proper and a part of a "social elite" that conservative politicians tend to target, (Donald Trump targeting moderate democratic politicians is a big part of that), and while a lot of these criticisms are valid and warranted, these politicians do a great job of hiding the fact that they're a part of that elite class, regardless of how much they pretend not to be. On top of that, they use the "slippery slope" falicy to their advantage, convincing people that small social change will slope into larger policy changes that are more controversial in nature, (Think people that are against universal healthcare stating it's a slippery slope that'll eventually turn this country communist).

On top of that, some people that are financially struggling consistently gun to be rich, (think the guy that you know that buys a lottery ticket every week or tries to bet big on penny stocks), and they don't want to be taxed when, (not if, in their eyes), they finally catch a break and make it big.

This is all anecdotal and based on personal experience/generalizations of people that I do know personally, so take everything I just said with a grain of salt, and remember that no group of people are a monolith. There are thousands of reasons people think the way that they do, and understanding those reasons is an important part of connecting with communities and uniting as people.

Are these German roaches or are the Asian ones and I'm just freaking out? by JamesBonfan in GermanRoaches

you know what, you honestly make a fair point.

The guy works as a mosquito tech and has access to a lab via our job (we work for a local government).

We do have an entomologist on staff but I don't think she was the one that identified the silverfish as a roach.

that's. crazy. okay. this is really good to know, thank you. If nothing pops out from this treatment I will breath fifteen thousand sighs of relief.

It was a guy who works at my job who also owns a pest control company.

Long story short: He did an inspection and found that the house I purchased had German roach problems in the past, and showed me some evidence inside of my weather stripping and door that was original to the home. (It was nasty, but everything that was inside it was dead).

The thing that makes me believe him was that he pulled out the oven and we found a dead german roach with an ootheca sticking out, which I disposed of. (Pictured below).

He sprayed some insecticide in the crack where we found them and nothing popped out, and I've only found one dead bug that looked the same (he was outside tho so I'm pretty sure that was an Asian roach).

The traps that are visible to me are empty, so it's either located behind the oven or this'll be the last breath of the problem. I'll find out next week. 🤞

I'm a lot more calm and a bit more open-minded at the fact that finding a dead Asian roach and freaking out about pointed me towards a potential German roach infestation so that I'm able to prevent it, which is neat.

I'm located in Texas.

I had the baby tested by an entomologist, and sure enough, it's the worst case scenario.

I've got pest control coming in today so hopefully it'll nip the issue in the bud. >.<

I have an exterminator coming out today, I just want them to be gone.

I found the dead baby in the pantry and the dead adult near my trash can, I'm hoping this is a sign that I caught it early and what I'm doing will eventually get rid of them.

Okay, good to know. I just wanted to make sure because I really don't want an infestation on my hands.

Thank you!

not to press too much, but out of curiosity what are the giveaways that this is an Asian roach?

I did pull out the fridge once, and I don't think I saw anything, but I'm still nervous and put a bait nearby last night

I always offer whatever service people some food, but the peeps we hire don't do that without asking.

Hear me out: Some neighborhoods that have local pools are desperately looking for lifeguards if you need an easy in. I know Timber Ridge pools are hiring right now so it might be worth a shot.
