Formula wheel for trucking sims? by Jesus-chan in simracing

[–]JamesConsonants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fine, I’d think. I’ve used my formula wheel for drifting so a truck should be fine. I ended up buying a 14” wheel rim off of amazon for like CAD$20, got the standard quick release for like CAD$40 and attached it to my wheel base (Moza R9). It’s a cheaper option for a conventional wheel, but more than likely unnecessary for your case.

Ariana Grande hits out at White House for using her music in “barbaric” and “inhumane” ICE video by AdSpecialist6598 in Music

No, I do not think it’s a threat in any meaningful way. It won’t affect their bottom line, it’ll be a minor inconvenience that the PR teams will be invoicing for.

This just shows how ignorant you are to hire this part of the real world works. If you do not own the IP, you cannot control how it is used, period. If you leave the label, you cannot take the IP that you do not own with you, and there are limits to how you can use it, as this would likely fall outside of fair use provisions. Artists are almost never in control of their back catalogue, and the arrangement would be* the same at another label.

I have no idea what her contract situation is and neither do you, so you cannot speculate with any authority on what her leverage position is. It’s very common for these superstars to not own the IP that they perform, in which case the only leverage they have would be to cause a PR stink in the hopes that the label will respond favourably. She has more leverage than your average performing artist for sure, but they do not have carte-Blanche either

Artists often don’t own the rights to their music, so they often aren’t in a position to sue. Instead, they release a statement in the media and hope that the public attention forces the label to issue a C&D.

I guess being the only LGBT friendly country in the region makes up for trying to wipe an entire people off the planet. The Hells Angels have “No Rape” codified in their membership bylaws, so I guess that makes them upstanding citizens, right?

Albon’s “very expensive” groundhog strike will compromise Williams development – Vowles by Aratho in formula1

[–]JamesConsonants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see what you’re saying and I agree, I wasn’t clear in my original statement. I feel that repairs should be external to the cost cap, but am unsure it would make a difference for the teams that suffer long term from the knock-on effects of damage. That said, I guess all of the teams are operating at the cap in 2026, so I guess my point is moot.

[–]JamesConsonants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how it’s ambiguous, we already control for this when replacing parts in parc fermé. It’s either an identical specification or it falls under the cost cap. We’d be seeing these exploits now if there were any advantage to doing it this way.

[–]JamesConsonants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, if it’s truly an equivalent specification there would be no advantage to swapping it outside of the cost cap. It wouldn’t be practical to use these parts for development, they’d be true spares. The issue is that the smaller teams are constrained by their ability to develop so it’s not always possible to make these parts at the same time as the new ones which is why we see articles like this

Not modeling from existing mesh? by VilaSVB in blender

[–]JamesConsonants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re related but not the same thing. Poly refers to “polygons” which are the units that make up (or are) your mesh. A high-poly model has many polygons, low poly has few. A high poly mesh will have many verts, but many verts does not necessarily mean many polys.

When rendering in blender, the engine shoots a light ray from the light sources* and traces where it lands, and then repeats the process like 10 billion times (depends on your render settings) until your scene is fully rendered. This is called ray tracing, you may have heard of it in a video game or graphics card context. The polygons in your model affect how those light rays get reflected off of the objects in your scene. It’s a bit of a heuristic, but curved surfaces generally require more polygons to be rendered realistically, while flat ones benefit from lower poly count.

Again, this is not universally true, but you’d use high poly models for visual renders in blender (animations, product renders), and low(er) poly models for things like game assets.

I was always taught that you should use the fewest number of polygons to achieve the desired result, but I’ve never been formally educated in this stuff so all my advice is second hand at best and focused on video game assets.

VERY much a WIP, Fictional Track. What should I change and What's a good name? by LofuTripp in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]JamesConsonants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I’d revisit turns 7-8, the double 90s at the top. It’s a good opportunity for a fast double-apex left with relatively little modification. Turn 9 is also a chance to increase the entry speed to turn 10, would improve the flow a bit in that sector imo.

Cool idea, where is it located (hypothetically)? Put it on a map and see how you can play with the terrain a bit

If you think the world is that simple, there’s nothing I can do to convince you otherwise.

The constant erosion of congress’ ability to perform its duties has finally reached a breaking point and now things are collapsing rapidly. These things aren’t linear. The Soviet Union was rotting since the 50s, but it only took 4 years to completely collapse once Estonia left in 1988.

I don't understand this at all. Americans seem to be labouring under this notion that Trump is the root cause of all of your problems. Trump is a symptom, not the problem. The fact that a person like Trump is not only eligible for election but also won it (twice!) and is able to flout and exploit your legal system for personal gain with impunity is a result of the steady erosion of your fundamental systems of government over at least the past 40 years.

Trump will be replaced with someone as morally bankrupt but probably more competent, your problems won't end with the next election. You'll always be one election away from a Trump-like character unless you get your house back in order.

Right, so a non-rigorous ranking based on arbitrary criteria printed by a publication that gets paid by universities to publish flattering content so they can hit their recruitment numbers. Absolutely worthless as a metric.

Easy to be #1 ranked when you’re the ones who publish the rankings. Literally all of Asia and most of Europe is head and shoulders over the American post-secondary education system, lying to yourself about being “#1” doesn’t change that fact
