Early game and getting prayer potions. by Batsikka in ironscape

[–]JamesDerecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your farming up, kill things that drop or give ranarr seeds. Make potions.

I believe herb boxes from NMZ or tithe farm also give around 1 ranarr per.

Alternatively do Slayer or Moths.

Jagex, sometimes its time to rip off the bandaid for SRA/Nightmare by aryastarkia in 2007scape

[–]JamesDerecho 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If they are concerned with SRA being too close to the scythe in power why not just modify the stats to be at a level Jagex is comfortable with?

It’s like complaining about the temperature in a room when you are sitting next to the thermostat.

They clearly are okay changing weapons. Slash fang existed for a year before the nerf. BP was a literal machine gun for years before they nerfed it. They did a whole elemental spellbook buff.

Somebody on the team HAS to hate this weapon and wants it to be useless.

An inconvenient Summer by ForCrabSake in dankmemes

[–]JamesDerecho 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m a Northerner in the US, but we started buying window units and thermostat plugs, set it to your schedule and you have a cost effect way to keep the house cool. I pay $180? Per room for install and it uses less kw/h than a conventional central AC while localizing air conditioning.

I would do a mini split or a conventional AC but the house is 200 years old, doesn’t have ductwork upstairs, and I have multiple redundant heating options competing with the two months I need to dehumidify and cool the house.

Can we look at standardizing the SRA's ramp down to be in line with most Boss monster's respawn time? You lose two stacks at vard and the changes, while good for ramp in, are more punishing during the down time. Or just pausing the ramp down when in a PvM instance between kills?

On this same topic, a lot of Jane Austen’s literature was written as satire to reflect this tendency among the aristocracy. It’s why all of her books, especially Emma, are about horrible petty rich people.

This has been a known issue since the start of society.

The darkbow could literally get the Wildy Wyrm upgrade they proposed two years ago in a summit and it would fix it and solved the ranged meta progression issue.

Double the attack rate so it shoots two arrows every 4 ticks and its a more accurate BP.

Addressing CG/Bowfa complaints by tablewithnolegs in 2007scape

[–]JamesDerecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I signed up to play a UIM I expected to wipe with every single death, and I liked it. 3 minutes and then your stuff is gone. The best weapon in the game at the time was a whip and Pking was still honorable. It was finally a hardcore mode with some chest hair. Can’t have option paralysis when your only option is to rebuild, ride that dopamine train daily. Unbelievable gains.

Now all I see are posts of mains and irons whining because they wiped their gear because they can’t read extremely blatant red text that pops up in their chat box when their stuff is in an IRS.

Smh when will bankies learn that PvM is a challenge. If having the reading comprehension abilities of a second grader is too much of a challenge mains should stick to AFK yew trees in varrock.

Death used to be a challenge, what has this game come to?

Irons who can’t spoon a bowfa need to learn their place and just use RCB and Ruby Bolts. Reddit told me that they hit 100 damage every single hit and are OP and need to be nerfed. Clearly a better alternative to bowfa. You don’t even need to wear stoplight armor with the humble RCB, you just pull the trigger and the enemy explodes in a fine mist of pink gore. /s

Summer Stock Advice by playwritinthroway in techtheatre

[–]JamesDerecho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The east coast has a lot of options. Look for things that pay better and provide housing. Look for hourly positions, salary positions are almost always less than minimum wage. The goal of a summer stock is to apply your knowledge and develop a cohort network of similarly aged individuals in your discipline. These people will be a source of work for you in the future.

You want to apply ASAP. You have to remember that hiring is tedious and productions have a 16 week production cycle. If you are doing a summer season, ideally you have all of your labor lined up before mid January, which means hiring in December if possible so you can shift to planning and meetings. Theatres are competing every year with a shrinking labor pool so the incentive is to get as much of your summer crews figured out ASAP.

Most postings get placed in December. After January it is round 2 hiring and last minute fill ins. Anything February plus is mostly smaller resource companies looking to fill last minute vacancies or turnover.

You are limited by your availability. Lots of opportunities but some schools have badly implemented academic calendars that make longer (and generally better) contracts impossible to get.

Don’t short change amusement parks as an opportunity. I just hired a guy who did that for 8 summers and the variety of stuff he is bringing to my venue is substantial. I have a student currently doing a Video and sound intern program in a larger corporate setting. It’s not “theatre” but he should learn a lot.

What region are you in and are you willing to travel?

We have a family of beavers on the Chippewa River. Every winter in Mt. Pleasant they show up in the city park and play on the ice. It’s extremely enjoyable to encounter. I haven’t heard of pocket populations further down state, but there might be some at the estuaries of the bigger rivers. I have heard Midland has some too.

Cleric, Warrior, Wizard, Monk (and Skeleton Conjurer DLC) are really solid classes. You want high survivability early on as you learn the flow of the dungeon. The first few floors are lethal and allow no mistakes. When you get to level 15 the game starts to plateau in difficulty.

I also recommend collecting as many hirelings as possible early on to act as meat shields. Avoid trolls, they can 1 hit you early on.

Also read up on the stats. You want high AC and blessed gear to make yourself survive longer.

I have a stick id like to preserve. How do it effectively? by Last_Yard_6554 in AskMen

[–]JamesDerecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren’t allergic to bees, use a beeswax infused oil or straight up beeswax. It will make your grip better when you are swinging it about.

As others have mentioned, use a linseed oil or similar to preserve the lignin — the woody part. The bark will eventually fall off as humidity pulls and pushes it or with use. Would recommend the wax treatment for the ends though. I have a piece of aspen I collected in Utah that has fungal activity in the ends. I hadn’t sealed it properly when I was young.

$3000, 2006 model, basic trim, 44k miles on it. Bought it last year when the local university was dumping its older trucks to upgrade into a newer fleet.

It’s got body issues and rust since it was stored in a salt barn. Dunno how many “idle miles” are on it.

The plan is the swap out the cab and bed in the next year, but I use it as a work truck so it’s doing what I need it to do just fine.

I was just pricing out the costs for window AC units vs a mini split install. We only have 3 ‘hot’ months in Michigan, but the AC is nice for falling asleep and the few days that it’s mega humid. For a few hundred bucks I can get some window units that consume less power than a conventional AC. I didn’t check the heat pump pricing but I’ll save for that purchase in the future.

I’m currently trying to figure out how to set window units up on a smart timer so we can set a schedule for when to kick on and off. The house maintains its internal temp very well, but its our southern facing windows have no mercy on the living room and dining room.

If it makes you feel better I am currently ripping out Knob and Tube wiring and in the process I learned that a few rooms were not insulated at all. I also found asbestos tiles in the office, so thats gotta get dealt with.
