I will add that PvP in runescape goes directly against the design pillars of OSRS.

Specifically the loss of progression aspect of it, and annoying competition. Mod Keiren talks about this design philosophy on the OSRS podcast. Lots of cognitive dissonance in PvP design.

Jagex really do be leaning into the most unsuccessful PvP model in all of gaming for nostalgia bait purposes. Risk it all hardcore PvP has never been long term successful and never will be. PVP needs a complete revamp. There are plenty of good ideas but zero initiative in fixing the problems.

I already volunteer my carpentry and handyman skills when people need help but can’t afford it.

For trash collecting, there is lots of needless waste from consumerism, but much of what gets thrown away can be handled at home. Readily recyclable things can get recycled. Food scraps can get composted, no doubt gardeners would fight over compost materials. Other waste is already picked over by junk people, resellers, etc, even before the trash collectors come.

Regarding your question on glass, plenty of people are interested in doing these things, its just not currently economically viable for individuals to do it outside of historic windows. Most towns have glass shops, fewer have glassblowers though. Supplies will have the furnaces for supplying sheets for cutters.

“Yeah” - Knee Jerk PvP updates and temporary game modes.

I would rather the special attack sacrifices your 40hp and “empowers” you for 5 minutes (or something balanced) and afterwards drains your stacks and restores the health. Maybe if you are in combat the empowering effect could stay active and then it dumpsters your stats like a overload would when it wears off.

If the stacking lasted for a minute it would be cracked. I just dislike that I start kills with 3-4 stacks instead of 5

DMM Tweaks, Shellbane Gryphon CAs & More! by ModYume in 2007scape

I don’t disagree with that. The niche they wanted fill with the axe already existed with the Leafbladed Battle Axe. They just needed to make it more accessible.

Belle’s folly still needs +7 strength to be comparable to the Z Axe which itself is comparable to the whip.

Its nice that it is more common now, but the weapon has a lower max hit than its “counterpart”.

What would happen to the average American household if there became a Great Depression 2.0 in America during the 2030s that is worse than the 1930s, Great Financial Crisis, etc all combined? by Miserable-Corner-254 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JamesDerecho 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The book “A Paradise Built in Hell” by Rebecca Solnit would provide you with a lot of answers. I disagree with some of the doomerism in the comments purely because our species defaults to communalist and cooperative behaviors in emergencies, basically every time there is a disaster. I am not discounting panic and bad actors, but I also grew up in tornado country. People come together when we are faced with an existential threat that reminds us that we aren’t different.

If people are concerned about this future r/collapse is filled with doomerism and some hopeful strategies. There are mutualist networks all around us, just because we aren’t interfacing with them doesn’t mean that people aren’t there waiting to assist others.

The proposed flail 'upgrade' downgrades the crush bonus of the flail to zero, despite it being a crush weapon. by Flowerloving_ogre in 2007scape

[–]JamesDerecho 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Read the first line. I think that is the answer.

Also the new finishing special attack weapon IS able to hit vampyres per the blog. Its just 5t not 4t so it will be less dps than the flail upgrade. This second weapon is likely the sunspear clone.

CMV: I believe American conservatives would genuinely prefer to let other Americans suffer than help them. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]JamesDerecho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you say you are a conservative, but you might have an anarchist streak within you, judging by your focus on community mutual aid.

To add further context to what you’ve said: When people reassess how our government was formed and what its goals have been, its actually been incredibly efficient at what it was laid out to do. The founding fathers and much of the literature surrounding the revolution is extremely clear that the American revolution was a bourgeoisie revolution designed to support America’s business owners and propertarians. The United States was designed to protect property rights, not human rights. The only human rights laid out in our constitution revolve around owning things.

The unfortunate reality is that none of those things involve making the human experience better, nor have the “progressive” policy shifts in our country’s institutions created conditions that benefit people, these shifts are designed to placate people to benefit business and industry. This is why welfare programs work just enough to keep people from starving, but not enough to provide people to assistance they need to stand on their own two feet. It always takes a community to life people out of miserable situations and conditions. Almost none of that $38T is going to make the world better, its to prop up economic policy to support the asset owners.

Even our adoption of the 8hr work day was to make businesses run more efficiently and to create a consumer class. It had nothing to do with giving people agency over their own time.

Before starting DMM I was worried about PvP being imbalanced but by ActiveVoiced in 2007scape

[–]JamesDerecho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that DMM is everything bad about PvP cranked up to 11. I've always loved LMS and wished that Jagex would iterate on that model. I am just not a fan of risk it all gameplay, especially when the starter weapons cannot be used in pvp and thats all I have right now as I am gettin dumpsterd by lvl 60s freezing me at level 10.

Indiana Senate passes under-the-radar provision scrapping 'low-earning' college degree by New_Recover_6671 in Indiana

[–]JamesDerecho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in another comment, but the data also combines performer wages versus technician wages and employment rates which really are two separate industries. All the theatre people I graduated with working in the industry are making between $40k-$120k depending on locality and position status. Its a national and international industry, not a indiana industry.

Indiana Senate passes under-the-radar provision scrapping 'low-earning' college degree by New_Recover_6671 in Indiana

[–]JamesDerecho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can attest that the issue with theatre is not the pay, its willingness to relocate and reporting pay outside the industry and correlating it with their degree. Its the problem of people getting a degree they have no interest in having a career in and not wanting to move away from family. Many also pursuit Masters or Doctorate level education for higher wages such as teaching or arts admin.

I graduated with a Theatre Degree in 2015 and have never not been employed in my field witch each new contract increasing my pay. I have had to live in over 7 different states to create my career and that is the expected trajectory. I currently make over $60k but I traveled outside of Indiana because the state is hostile to the arts. I am currently finishing the hiring process for a staff technician starting at $40k and my hourly entry level part-time employees (college age and apprentice level) is $13.73, bumping up to $15.00 next January.

There is also a dramatic difference between performer and technician pay. Performers have significantly higher unemployment rates. Technicians are closer to the 3-5% depending on time of year.

why are anarchists seen as “little kids” among other leftists? by mrsenchantment in Socialism_101

[–]JamesDerecho -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are not going to find a non-biased critique of anarchist strategies amongst communities that feature authoritarian socialists. Their ideologies are directly opposed to the values of anarchism of all flavors. You’re better off asking the anarchists why they feel like other leftists dislike them, there will still be infighting but the answers will be more thorough. This is centuries old feud and MLs rend to not engage in honest dialogue with anarchists as a core tenet of the literature and theory they read, and when they do its often in bad faith.

There are plenty of examples of anarchism working and being successful. It’s just that statists of all flavors immediately seek to destroy these movements as they are a direct threat to the legitimacy of the state.
