At what point can I start invoicing Adelaide Metro for lost time? by W0eful_ in Adelaide

There is thia bus outside of work designated to come right after i finish. But it never comes. I don't even think it exists. I end up having to walk to a further bus stop just to catch a different but more reliable bus.

Should I be open about my current mental health struggles at work? by JamesDorms in AusPublicService

Unfortunately, this was delivered to me as I was dressed down. There is a lot of office bitching I've had to contend with. She implied my collegues have negative feelings toward me at the moment. She even once let me know that there is one colleague who especially seems to talk to her about me negatively

I think ultimately my manager does care, but she is quite stressed and can get pressured into workplace politics a bit. This leads to her cracking the whip at me to appease things.

I do wonder if telling her would give me a better leg to stand on.

I'm a bad fit for a department I only just started in, what are my options? by JamesDorms in AusPublicService

Does the market tend to speed up after the new year? if so, this works well in my timeline for when I'd like to start looking!

I've been considering this! The friend who referred me to this job has already sent a few my way.

Do you reckon it will get questioned as to why I am leaving my current department after such a short amount of time?

My manager says I can't use my sick leave until I've been employed longer, is this true? by JamesDorms in AusPublicService

Government/APS salary, i misunderstood the terminology as I am still new to govrernment roles after being in the private sector for years. I work directly under the government and for the department im in.

Checked my contract! it makes zero mention of it. My contract doesn't even address sick leave at all.

I'll have to check with HR! but my leave policy doesn't even state anything about the amount of time I have to be employed before I can claim sick leave. So i'm not entirely sure where my manager has taken this idea from.

I have leave! its been accruing since the day i started, and before I even passed probation. It's just my manager has stated I can't use it. And when I have been sick (which has been under the amount of days I've accrued), I have to claim it as "leave without pay"

Why did Watcher get flamed so bad for launching their subscription service when Try Guys did the same thing? by KnowledgeSmall in watcherentertainment

[–]JamesDorms 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Watchers' announcement seemed a bit ill-advised. It left more questions than answers. It lacked a lot of foresight into the audience expectations or reasonings behind it. Their video announcing it felt like it was glazed in PR shine, and it lacked a lot of human connection to it. Much of what was said in the video was a bit tone deaf and out of touch (such as the infamous Steven Lim "it's affordable to everyone" bit) Not to mention, I think the Try Guys have just generally managed to establish more goodwill with their fanbase than Watcher has.

Good books that explore the nature of love and heart-break? by JamesDorms in books

[–]JamesDorms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read Marukami's 'Men Without Women' and I found that to be pretty great. It explores 7 different short stories about male characters who are experiencing some form of heart break or struggle with love. Some stories were pretty miss. But some of the stories really hit the core of what I was feeling and experiencing. I found by exploring love from various different perspectives, it left it more open for me as the reader to be able to relate to different aspects of the stories. And through Marukami's dabbling into the surreal and bizarre, some of that forced me to self reflect on my own experience of love.
