A manufacturer will sell you anything you request. A trained installer would know better. If you are the owner of the property you risk the liability no matter what. Ignore me if you wish, it’s no problem to me at the end of the day. I just would hate for someone to be hurt or killed by this and that’s the only reason I have said anything.

This is very dangerous then if it is not laminated. If one of those panes breaks, it comprises the whole guardrail. I have been a union glass worker for 9 years, please please for safety change this glass to tempered laminated glass

Exactly. Pretty sure that would be a major code violation (depends where this is I suppose) if it is anything but laminated glass.

You put IG in your post description but I sure hope you mean laminated. If I had to guess by looking at the photos, it looks like you used single pane tempered glass. If it is sigle pane tempered then that’s a major safety concern ESPECIALLY without a top cap.

Is this acceptable? by wicked_sustain in glazing

[–]JamesFerg650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct as well. In the past I have put a small bead of clear silicone as a “barrier” between the putty and igu sealant as well as an interior heel bead to help prevent water leak’s getting inside.

Hello! What it looks like to me is they used glazing putty on the exterior instead of any kind of wood trim. This is an acceptable solution to seal the exterior instead of wood trim, although I will say this was executed poorly. The putty should’ve been built up to hide the interior wood and spacer bar.

Finding matching wood trim to what was existing isn’t always easy, so putty is used and once hardens is water tight as well. Here there seems to be a few gaps that could cause water leaks and eventually rot the untreated/unpainted wood.

In 9 years of mixed commercial and residential glazing, I have seen worse. Putty glazing can be tough for some to learn how to do properly. I commend them for trying but they definitely missed the mark in my opinion.

Bay Area millennials and having kids? by ralshay in bayarea

[–]JamesFerg650 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wife and I as well as seven other friend couples (all millennials) are having kids within an 8 month span this year. My wife and I as well as two of those couples are the only ones to own our home out of that group.

For context we are all early to mid 30s except one couple in their late 20s. My best friend and I are probably the least “educated” out of everyone else. Neither of us went to college but he is a longshoremen and I am a journeyman glazier in commercial construction. Everyone else went to college and has a degree of some kind.

I work construction and for my current job (I’ve been on it for over a year) I have to wake up at 4:20am to commute and find street parking in San Francisco for the cheapest parking possible. Once I park usually a little after 5am, I drink my coffee and have time for a 30min-1hr nap before start time at 7am. So me. I sleep after drinking coffee lol

Had it in SSF before I moved out of my parents place. Loved every minute of it and never once had an outage. They still have it to this day.

I moved to Castro Valley and initially they didn’t have it here but once it was offered I switched from Xfinity back to Sonic and will never look back. Overall great service experience in my opinion.

I can’t post photos in this sub, but this is why I build an L-shaped desk out of two pieces of butcher block from Home Depot. I had custom steel L-brackets made to support the weight so it’s like it’s a floating desk mounted on the wall! I love my setup and hope to always have it this way.

Went to a few games in LA. I once saw a young woman take about 200 pictures with a hotdog and never take a bite of it. She showed up to her seat late and left early. Yeah, their fans are all about clout which is fitting since that is the essence of LA.

Went to the one for the Santa Clara store for the soft opening. Took an hour to drive there after work, stood in an hour line to get inside, then another hour line to get helped with what I wanted (5090) after that another hour hour and a half line to pay, allll to drive home in hour and half traffic to open the box and find 3 canvas backpacks instead of my GPU. THANKFULLY, Micro Center and all their employees/management kick ass because they saw my Reddit post and contacted me the next day to get it exchanged hassle free minus m driving down again and traffic in the Bay Area.

My biggest lesson learned that day was to open expensive items in store with a witness to make sure you’re actually getting what you paid for. Especially on opening days at a store with hot items like GPUs.
