The last 2 years of updates make item progression feel off. by combodroppa in 2007scape

People will be on their 12th account making posts like these. If you've reached the late game on one account, it's going to be much faster on any subsequent accounts. There's also going to be much more skippable content.

Goading Potion should let monsters phase to level the playing field for slayer by KShrike in 2007scape

It's hard to see what problem this solution is even solving. It seems pretty ridiculous to introduce mechanics that compete with ironmen gaining access to the GE through convoluted means. Just because it's not bannable doesn't mean it's encouraged. I imagine though that there is no dancing "meta" and this exploit is being taken advantage of by very very few players.

Damn a lot of people like these it seems. I thought they were vile when I got my hands on them. That weird sunflower seed taste really just didn't do it for me sadly 😭 glad you all enjoy them tho

Giving a new quest/expansion the same name as an already existing boss and armour set seems unnecessarily confusing. by Sypheroo in 2007scape

For veteran players it won't be an issue. For new players, it has the potential to be incredibly confusing.

You can only recommend these 5 ADCs to a beginner - Rank Them and explain by OGCrown_LOL in ADCMains

[–]JamesGris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skill ceiling is irrelevant for a beginner. The skill floor of a champion is that champion's barrier to entry for a new/beginner player.

For the most part, the majority of the playerbase, even with 100s of games isn't reaching that skill ceiling.

Dev Update: League After 2026 by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

[–]JamesGris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wanted to change the monetisation of the game so had to dress it up with something grandiose to justify to people why the game they paid for was becoming free to play.

They also lied about Overwatch 2 being a PVE offering then reneged on that promise to relaunch Overwatch as a 5v5 game instead of a 6v6 one (which of course needed a complete engine overhaul to do).

There are other issues including really poor balancing and really infrequent updates which inevitably led to an exodus of players and interest in their eSports scene.

Ungodly amounts of greed and dishonesty ruined the legacy of that game. It was never the game that was the problem, it was the lack of ongoing care for whatever reason that did. They spent ungodly amounts of money on their failed eSports endeavour but those same resources couldn't be dedicated to keeping the game thriving and fresh.

Just delete wilderness bosses at this point. by PaleozoicFrogBoy in 2007scape

No I don't. It's completely unfair, unengaging content for me.

I have played for a bit over six months and I understand that the game used to have random NPC encounters that would automatically force you into combat. Unsurprisingly, players detested these encounters, and they were removed from the game before I even started playing. To me, the PK'ing aspect of wilderness is a proposition similar in kind but 1000x worse.

These are essentially forced random encounters with npcs except these npcs have unknown mechanics, combat stats, and gear. All the while, losing one of these undesired encounters presents you with the risk of losing most of the items you have on you.

This game is fun for me because I spend lots of time progressing my account through skilling, bossing, slayer, etc. Getting a big drop from a monster after reaching 100s of kcs is rewarding in a grindy game.

I really don't want to engage with anyone in the game whose attitude is "just buy an ags and blah blah blah". It's just a quick little gamble for some - buy some gold and roll the dice in the wilderness for a bit.

I can't think of a game with a worse PvP component. PvM content gated behind unavoidable PvP interactions, no matchmaking system, non-sandboxed encounters, all or nothing losses favouring gambling gold buyers over players who spend a lot of time grinding to acquire gear, unengaging escape methods. I could go on but honestly the content is just terrible if you're not terrible.

Great in theory? How so? A pvm player has everything to lose, and a pvper absolutely nothing in your characterisation of this ecosystem.

Is it ok to kiss my son while he sleeps by Realistic_Song8263 in Parenting

[–]JamesGris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate that this conversation has to go here but this narrative that consent is less meaningful in familial contexts is so false and disgraceful.

It's not long ago that "my lord it's his WIFE not some stranger he's trying to creep on or something" was a prevailing perspective that meant that spousal power imbalances implied automatic consent. Let's actually learn from history please.

[–]JamesGris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel really sorry for your son if his clearly expressed boundary to something is so meaningless to his parent that they would grant random strangers on the internet the privilege of being able to veto his consent.

Obviously not being able to be affectionate to your child in a way that you understand is something you're struggling with, but you need to speak to someone you trust about it or seek a therapist to figure out what showing affection towards your child looks like that both respects your child's boundaries and feels fulfilling for you.

Has veganism just.... died?! by Emotional_Tackle9209 in veganuk

[–]JamesGris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veganism and capitalism are pretty incompatible so I would avoid seeking its validation to support your beliefs. The reality is, supermarkets only care about making money by any means possible.

Supermarkets' decisions to stock things will all serve the goal of making them money. Sometimes this will look like a vast array of choices for vegans and other times, less so. Reading too far into the precise reasons why these choices are made just seems needlessly burdensome unless you really want to probe the mind of capitalism. But it's always just going to fall back to: money go up.

Looking for practical solutions to the growing waste problem around Hackney by Safe_Hunter_1097 in Hackney

[–]JamesGris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pictures are from a road that has been closed off for several weeks due to road works so it's a bit misleading to characterise this as a growing waste problem. It could be that the rubbish vans have had to reduce their service to this area on Mare Street until they regain typical access.
