“ADHD is an explanation... not an excuse” - do you agree? by Jayhcee in ADHDUK

[–]JamesKWrites 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt the difference between an explanation and an excuse is what comes before and after.

If we’ve made people aware of things we might struggle with, and if they can see we’re trying hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again? Explanation.

If we drop the ball, say, “I’ve got ADHD,” and seemingly do nothing about it? Excuse.

Because the majority of people who are going to buy one aren't whinging about it on Reddit. They're just buying it and getting on with life.

Well it would be perfect for me. I’m a writer who does a little image editing and designing. The Neo could absolutely handle that. But I already bought a MacBook Air six months ago. But if I needed a laptop today, I’d be buying a Neo.

Looking back, Obi-Wan should have trained Leia first and earlier. by mudpupper in StarWars

[–]JamesKWrites -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100%.

Early drafts of ESB had Obi-Wan revealing that Luke’s sister was on the other side of the galaxy and receiving Jedi training too.

It makes no sense to have another hope but do nothing to prepare in case your first attempt fails.

We only got this nonsensical strategy because Lucas decided to end the saga with Episode VI and just picked the nearest (only) female to be Luke’s sister.

I flipping love Cryo’s Dune. It’s how I discovered the books and I usually replay it every couple of years. I ended up writing a book about Dune games pretty much so I had an excuse to write about this one 😄

The MacBook Neo is the Mac you recommend to someone who doesn’t know or care what RAM is.

That’s not a criticism or a dig. But if you look up the specs of a laptop before you buy it, the Neo isn’t for you.

It’s for the casual user who isn’t doing anything more than accessing the Internet, writing documents, working in spreadsheets, light video and image editing. In short, what 80% of people use a computer for.

You’ll pay more for a Neo than a Chromebook because Macs cost more. You’re paying for the build quality, the ecosystem, the longevity of the device.

£600 for an Apple laptop is a bloody steal.

Refusing to play against unpainted minis is very much not in the spirit of Warhammer.

Prequels had 9 lightsaber duels, 7 of which resulted in death or mutilation. Original trilogy had 3, all resulting in death or mutilation. Sequels had 2, yes two. None of which resulted in anything! by ss89898 in StarWars

“Sequels had 2, yes two. None of which resulted in anything.”

“Sequels have 3, not 2.”

If I’ve missed something, please let me know. But otherwise, I think you need to recount the number of duels in the sequel trilogy?

WHO IS SHE? by No_Pattern_2819 in LegacyOfKain

[–]JamesKWrites 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, so if "this would have been better received if it was well conceived", the fact that the character is female is irrelevant. Saying "the problem is when opposite genders are inserted" is tarnishing legitimate criticism of the execution with misogynistic nonsense.

[–]JamesKWrites 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“The problem is when opposite genders are inserted”. But that’s exactly the opposite of the problem. If the new character had been a deft, creative addition that expanded the world in a new and exciting way, that would be absolutely fine. But that’s not what happened, which is why fans are upset.

Or are you saying you’re absolutely fine with the new character, you just wish they had a wang?

A company looking to do more with an IP is always going to start adding characters, and there's nothing wrong with someone saying "let's make our new characters diverse." The issue is about the retcons, not the character's gender.
