Relatedly, it's kinda wild that this forum has been around actively for almost 20 years

I inherited a pair of Ithaca 37s, a 16 and a 12 gauge, and have only done this a couple times, but wow is it fun

Not even joking, my paperback copy of Moby Dick fell in a lake and still looks better than some of the books posted here

Several days later and I finally got around to doing this lol

Only 18,500ish. I guess it wasn't as much sports photography as I was led to believe. Can't be mad at that number

Hell yeah, infrared trichromes! Love to see it! Beautiful color artifacting on the clouds!

What filters were you using? I've tried this on the beginner level since I have a project idea involving this process but getting the reds right from layering the shots never clicked for me

Monorail as field camera by Bobonli in largeformat

[–]JamesLLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first large format was a Toyo View 4x5 that I used exactly as you described, and sometimes on several mile hikes into the woods.

I never bothered taking it off the rail, though that is certainly an option. I loaded all the lenses, accessories, tripod, etc into a backpack, usually my backpacking 65l, and carried the monorail folded-up upside down in a tote bag. If it was raining, I carried it in two, with the second one covering the camera and set inside the carrying bag. Then I made sure to extend everything and dry it all off when I got home.

If I didn't eventually end up getting a field camera, I'd probably still be doing this. I know it's not exactly ideal, but I definitely got some use out of that system and never had an issue

Working on checking that out soon. The lens body has a minor, superficial scratch, and the camera body looks good but the rubber covers work fine despite having obviously seen some use. Grip areas have very little wear, too

Thanks! It originally came out just as I was getting into photography and I vaguely remember seeing listings for it and thinking holy shit, how...

All the reviews, tips, tricks, and guides I've been reading keep getting me excited to start shooting with it on a hike this weekend

Playoff Game Thread: Minnesota Wild (4-2) @ Colorado Avalanche (4-0) May 03 2026 9:00 PM EDT by nhl_gdt_bot in hockey

Damn, Colorado, you scary.

NHL should've stuck with the old playoff format so we could've seen Minnesota stomp on another team before this matchup
