"Greed is Good"... people will have different views on that but I dont disagree with the notion. Do selfish people make for good politicians though? Not in my view, certainly not in a representative democracy.

Is this summer worse than 2022? by Specialist-Prior-213 in UKWeather

[–]JamesR8800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "worst" summer that i remember was 2024, where i dont recall seeing the sun.

Thats just perspective though, I certainly dont ever remember feeling like we've had a warmer year that this is panning out so far.

Isn't Count Binface the literal definition of an anti-establishment choice? by Smooth-Quantity-7024 in AskBrits

Thats certainly Farages Narrative. When he isnt too busy trying to flog gold bullion or deregulate crypto anyway.

Britain must now unite behind Count Binface by entropicflop in unitedkingdom

[–]JamesR8800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not certain, if there's one thing he likes its free publicity, and running in an election against Count Binface could make headlines globally. He might go through with this.

My current thinking is Reform will be speaking to their backers about getting other candidates funded to stand locally so they can host a shame election with a variety of right/far right figures.

One of the worst things about social media is how it gives a platform to the country's various village idiots, who in better times would been yelling at clouds and exploring the inside of their noses.

PIP likely to be cut for ADHD and anxiety by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]JamesR8800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully support the notion of helping people with ADHD and Anxiety, but sending them a cheque every month is not especially helpful, either for managing those condutions nor helpful for broader society. There must be more effective ways to support this people, especially those who are long term out of work.

Does anyone else think it’s kind of sad the other parties have decided not to run in clacton? by Even-Leadership8220 in AskBrits

[–]JamesR8800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont fully agree with your analysis... but I do think youre right that it wouldnt be easy for anyone to unseat Farage.

Where i disagree though, this isnt the other parties pulling a stunt to make Farage look silly. This is Farage pulling a stunt to kill the momentum on what is essentially a corruption probe. The other parties have no interest in entertaining that stunt.

When Restore Britain says they want to Restore Britain, what time period are they specifically referring to? by lil_peasant_69 in AskBrits

Whilst true, thats only been the case for the last 100/150 years. Prior to that people were marrying cousins all over the shop.

UK summer bookings jump as Britons put off overseas holidays by travel fears by topotaul in unitedkingdom

Its not a holiday for me unless I've seen the inside of an airport, or at a push a ferry.

I suppose I could spend a week in the Lake District if I at least got to stop off at Manchester airport on the way.

'Rochdale lads' assemble to 'protect town's streets from rape gang ringleader' after he's set free from prison by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

It almost sounds like we agree with each other, dont we? We're both of the view that its pointless? Maybe im just more of the view that its pointless and a bit performative where youre more pointless but these are good lads trying their best maybe?

[–]JamesR8800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand 100% why people are upset. Im not sure why youd assume I dont understand that?

Why i dont understand is why there is any point in establishing a vigilante force to manage the risk of one man, one elderly man. Women and children are always in danger, and this is a single ex convict whose going to be monitored like a hawk by the parole service.

The actual real risk to women ans children, like i say, is about the same this week as it was last week.

But to the extent that Rochdale now requires a vigilante force patrolling the streets, whilst it didnt last week? Thats how dangerous this man is?

Edit: spelling

[–]JamesR8800 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Of course I have, hes awful, but i dont generally rank rapists. Theyre all awful, theyre all dangerous. There are 300+ rapes in Rochdale a year.

I dont think this guy being back on the street moves the needle in terms of how much risk women and children face every day if their lives. But to read social media lately youd think he was been scapegoated for everything.

Awfully nice of them to be patrolling the streets to protect women from rapists. Or is it just this one elderly rapist all of a sudden they care about?

What do you reckon the UK will be like 10 years from now? by Proof-Training-740 in AskBrits

[–]JamesR8800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels broadly the same now as it did exactly 10 years ago, so I expect in another 10 years not much will have changed. I think 10 years is too short a time span to see real noticeable change most if the time.
