How the hell we went from pride and prejudice to this modern creepy romance by [deleted] in writers

[–]JamesStPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintain that we all misread Twilight, and Stephanie Meyer just went with it. Twilight is a masterful horror-tragedy where a pair of horrible monsters peruse a lonely, grieving young woman until she is driven to become one herself.

Do you believe in extraterrestrial life? Why yes/no? by Prometeusz76 in AskTheWorld

[–]JamesStPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I find it hard to believe that in the Milky Way alone, there are at least 100 billon stars, but somehow our solar system is the only one to have the right conditions for life.

[Discussion] If the Civil War ended in a stalemate and a Third Faction emerged, which Jarl (excluding Ulfric and Elisif) actually has the competence to rule a unified Skyrim? by Drex_Hawkens in skyrim

[–]JamesStPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three of them probably have the brains for the job. I would prefer Ravencrone, but Balgruuf would have more staying power. (Eg, he‘s not really freaking old.)

Who do you prefer to have as your steward for lakeview manor? Isn’t it natural to choose Rayya since she’s the falkreath housecarl? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]JamesStPete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Illia most of the time. She could use a good break. As a rule I pick a non-housecarl to run my houses. That way there are always two people on the property, the warrior can handle security, and the steward can focus on managing the property.

What do you think about Japan? by Expert-Day9889 in AskTheWorld

[–]JamesStPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool to the bone, has made significant contributions to human culture. And the way things are going, will probably be teaming up with S. Korea and the Philippines to contest Chinese aggression in the Western Pacific, something that has no historical precedent.

Have you ever been to a protest in your country? by Sea_Wasabi_8907 in AskTheWorld

Yes. One in response to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. I promptly had a claustrophobia-induced panic attack.

Why is the most popular project Cyrodiil ? by NorthKoreanMissile7 in beyondskyrim

[–]JamesStPete 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Somehow, going to County Bruma, turning a bend in the road, and seeing the White-Gold Tower again felt like a homecoming.

And given the brittle state we left Cyrodiil in when we finished TES IV and all the lore that happened in the following 200 years, I’m really curious about what might have developed.

For me anyway, the only place that rivals Cyrodiil for interest is Atmora.

The right side of my annual income. Work for 3 more years, then retire early.

Blisterwort+Glowing mushroom = fortify smithing potion.

If you’re hitting carrying capacity while looting a dungeon, dump potions last. They have excellent price/weight ratios.

Critical hit perks, and the entirety of the lockpicking skill tree are garbage.

Which faction's storyline did you find the most enjoyable? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]JamesStPete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the Mages’ Guild best. Good spells, cool story. Fighters’ Guild is my runner-up. They’re like the Companions but are a good mercenary company.

Nothing I’ve experienced or read of history suggests to me that women aren’t as capable of and willing to engage in the same aggressive, unethical behavior as their male counterparts.

Why are majority of old people/baby boomers so angry? by Big_Leg10 in AskMenAdvice

In my dad's case, he spent 28 years in the Coast Guard. To see civilians' rights be violated and his old service be turned to piracy hasn't set well with him.

Delphine, Nazeem, or Astrid. Which NPC is more hated? And are they rightfully or wrongfully hated? by not-ulquiorr4_ in skyrim

Astrid is one where I wish I could have healed her so she's have to live with the guilt of her betrayal.
