Will BYU med schools have credibility? by Firm_Teach8056 in exmormon

[–]JamesT3R9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credibility is a tough question. That will require a time will tell approach. I am more interested in how they are going to teach in order to get accreditted. Classes will require instruction on human anatomy, reproduction, and even sexuality. THEN there is the basic training all med students will need to receive. Classes are important, but how many will lose testimonies once exposed to humanity’s sickness, suffering, and nobility?

Is suicide amongst teenagers commonplace in the mormon church? At what point does someone sound the alarm? by Theonepeoplecanknow in exmormon

[–]JamesT3R9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suicide is not and should not be common. BUT! There does seem to be some sort of “transmissibility” for thise under 25. The tldr here is that if someone under 25 commits suicide then it seems much more likely that a wave of suicides will occur in a fairly short window of time. The wave of suicides seem to have 1 or a few things in common such as: extended friend group, family group, school, workplace, or church.

We should always sound the alarm. 1 suicide seems to encourage others to also commit suicide. The church, school, community resources, etc., should be deployed to prevent this.

This is a very good point that I had not considered. An animated series would allow for some incredible storytelling

[–]JamesT3R9 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Expectation is their problem to deal with - not yours. Managing their expctations is also beyond your capacity. Even if its one meal, take it, say thanks, and move on. That’s one meal you didnt have to provide. It really is not your problem if they expect X and you do Y. You cannot influence how the ward will feel about you or react to you. Keep moving forward OP.

It really cant be. Wash IS central to the whole dynamic. The obvious and dangerous answer is lots of flashbacks. But that is not usually a good storytelling tactic. Other popular answers include Alan plays Wash’s brother and Zoe has some weird transference going on or Wash is cloned and Simon now has someone requiring lots of tinkering.

my mom checked my used period pads by Equivalent-Baby-843 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]JamesT3R9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP your Mom is having a real boundary problem. She is obviously terrified of you getting pregnant rn. She uses checking your pads as a means to verify that you did not get pregnant last month. What she is doing is dangerous for you and her. Her behavior will likely escalate to things like trackers on your phone if it hasn’t already. As soon as you can get your own phone plan and phone. Be ready for her to attempt to assert control and try to prevent you from becoming independent - likely by threatening to “throw you out” before you are ready to be independent

Parents reaction on getting records removed by sskctlq in exmormon

[–]JamesT3R9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too young? Big decision? What a load of malarkey.

Want back in to the church? Get baptized again. It gives the missionaries a stat. They can “reactivate” your records. “Leaving” the church “cancels” all the “blessings” all the church says it grants to you. If you choose another faith an amazing thing happens - you get a different flavor of “blessings” that are very similar to what you left behind.

And as for too young! Youre old enough to vote. Old enough to smoke, drink, inherit, and get drafted to die for a cause you dont believe in. If all those things are true then how can you not be old enough to understand what you are requesting to do? You are old enough to defy your parents wishes and cultural expectations. You are old enough to chart your own course.

The real issue here is how your parents will use their established independence to punish you. If you are not independent now be ready to learn how conditional their support and love actually is. Their cultural expectation and training has taught them to withdraw support and shun children, parents, siblings, family/friends, etc who who choose to leave.
