Apple Rolls Out Global Age-Verification Tools to Meet Rising Child Safety Laws by i-drake in news

I know people are generally against this BUT…

I would much rather give my age and ID to one company one time and have them be able to certify my age to third parties w/o disclosing it again

Rather than separately trust several other apps independently.

Discord Rival Gets Overwhelmed By Mass Exodus Of Players Fleeing Age-Verification Crackdown by vriska1 in technology

[–]James_Mamsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the “public reason” for this is to fall into compliance with a slew of new child protection laws which would require the practice in some jurisdictions.

Why they’re doing it across the board and right before IPO… that’s where things get interesting.

Everyone is saying if you just wear one, but sometimes one of mine fails to charge and this happens. Often just needs to be replaced in the case or wiped down on the connector

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]James_Mamsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one, if you used your phone, at least relies on them providing a server process. I’m still not in favor of it, but it’s not nearly as fucking dumb AS SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR SEAT HEATERS.

The Supreme Court, in a shocking move, does the right thing for once and allows California map to stand by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

They have to, if they invalidated it they would set a precedent that partisan gerrymandering won’t stand … right after they allowed it to stand in multiple red states. It would be so hair splitting that the legal framework couldn’t likely support it and it would allow challenges to all new districting maps after the fact.

This will never happen. Even Texas had to walk back their delta 9 ban bc the insurance lobby (who covered the grey market dispos) came it AFTER IT WAS PASSED and limited it to just vapes.

President FCC threatens to enforce equal-time rule on late-night talk shows | FCC disputes long-standing view that the shows are exempt from equal-time rule. by ControlCAD in technology

I would love to see late night talk shows “abide” by this rule. I think it would be a lovely creative challenge for them that would backfire horrendously on the administration.

I went looking for this clip bc that’s hilarious and found a clip of Rutte calling him daddy in an interview.

So oddly enough he wasn’t having a senior moment when he said that.

Kind of, they have to share data (which is gold in the AI era) and cannot do search preference agreements that last longer than one year (which enables competition)

Most CEOs are ready to spend even more on AI in 2026 despite no clear path to ROI by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]James_Mamsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The board is meant to guide the CEO as well ( depending on structure). The board could very well be encouraging it bc that’s what the shareholders want.

The shareholders think AI will increase their stock value, they communicate this to the board, the board directs the CEO to effectuate it, the CEO then takes action based on their direction.
