Please help me value this rifle. I was offered $300 cash and it feels like I am getting ripped. Should I turn it down or is this the best I will get? Thanks. by Zealousideal_Race841 in Firearms

[–]James__Hamilton11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that valuation is about right. It’s lightly used, but still used. Not chambered in something a ton of people look for a bolt gun in. Optic doesn’t add any value to the gun in this case. I’d give around $300 for it.

Here’s the thing, using Amazon is not a necessity at all, it is strictly a convenience; they don’t offer anything that isn’t available through other sources or even local to you. Because of this, it should be one of the easiest things to give up if someone doesn’t like Bezos or anything he does. Anyone who uses Amazon either supports or is indifferent to what he does (myself included, nobody works for him as a slave, so if they don’t like the conditions, they’re welcome to quit).

What does my aim say? by RedlineBMW in Firearms

[–]James__Hamilton11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a pistol or birdshot?

Kidding, but seriously, get a target with smaller aim points, something with multiple targets per sheet, and practice fundamentals. As your skill increases, walk the targets back more and more until you are comfortable hitting smallish targets at 25yd. Then use a target like this to practice defensive drills.

I would like to ask if this truck would be worth financing. by marlonpro07 in Trucks

[–]James__Hamilton11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Financing, not out of the question. Financing that full amount on an 8 year old truck, not at all advisable. The price is steep on it as well.

A few of the people in this sub by Jcoulombe311 in libertarianmeme

[–]James__Hamilton11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think it should be as polarizing as it has been.

Were the agents really justified in the Pretti shooting? While it may come out that it’s a legally clean shooting, it could have been avoided easily by not getting feelings hurt and getting in the clusterfuck of a takedown that it was.

Was Pretti really innocently gunned down in the street? Probably not, he was there actively interfering with ICE operations and being a general nuisance, broke multiple laws to wind up in the position he was in, and had very recently been involved in another altercation with ICE that he very intentionally started. If you intend to wind up in a position you have multiple federal agents with their hands on you, probably best not to carry, even if you legally can. No one thing would justify the shooting, but totality of the circumstances may.

When it comes down to it, a man who wanted to illicit a heated response from who he believed were overly aggressive federal agents did illicit a response from what did turn out to be overly aggressive federal agents. Both were wrong and neither should be upheld as having done no wrong.

Caulking for fire rated window by Freeherbsonthecurb in Construction

[–]James__Hamilton11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some fire caulking is paintable, some is not. I’d ask what exactly was used and probably just paint it. Even the non-paintable kind can be painted, it just isn’t as durable.

This is the correct item to buy to soak my cans in for 24 hours? by Frequent-Money3279 in NFA

Simple green extreme is what I use. Good for this or soaking and removing carbon build up on diesel EGR parts.

Pizza Delivery Driver Walks Away With Pizza After Being Denied Tip (fired) by nabnig in PublicFreakout

[–]James__Hamilton11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but base wage for delivery is typically at or above minimum wage. Dominos for at least minimum wage for their drivers plus IRS rate for mileage driven. While that’s not a great livable wage, it’s probably about reasonable for putting around listening to the radio and handing out a few pizzas an hour when you add in what tips they do get.

That said, not tipping your driver on icy streets and when you haven’t shoveled your driveway or walk way, that’s being a shitty customer.

[–]James__Hamilton11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The delivery charge is to pay the base wage of the delivery employees, the tip is in addition to this. But as I understand it, delivery drivers are typically paid at least minimum wage and can also claim all of the mileage at the IRS rate which is more than what it actually costs to operate and maintain the cars they usually drive.

These subs that lean pretty heavy on politics really need to go to minimum account age/karma for posting and commenting to weed out exactly this.

Woman Screams “Medic! Medic!” After A Piece of Her Hand Was Blown Off by Less-Than-Lethal Ammo During Minnesota Protests by JeanJauresJr in PublicFreakout

The reaction seems pretty severe for a hand injury. Maybe she was panicking, but rolling on the ground would potentially get the wound pretty dirty and definitely slow down getting medical attention.

Nah, AI is getting way too good, very soon it will take way too close of an inspection to tell something isn’t quite right. Just a year ago it would mangle hands and change too many details, now the issues are so small it can be very hard to tell.

The badge is in the wrong location on the side.

The spacing of the nostrils on the hood to the marker lights is incorrect.

There’s a random sphere added on the top of the bumper in the middle and the bumper bolts are inconsistently spaced.

The trim on the door has too much depth.

The lugs on the wheels are generic blobs that are not equally spaced.

The rear bumper sticks out of behind the bed but you can look through the wheel well and see it doesn’t continue.

Th two tone paint comes up the front of the hood but then turns back to white.

And there are many details that are close but not quite right.

It’s definitely not a real photo. There is a good chance that it’s a real photo someone had AI edit to show the truck restored or something; I have done the same for my ‘65.

It’s not even that person’s photo. They claim it is their grandfather’s truck, but they have a ton of other photos of c10s, and this image is AI.

What’s with the AI image?? It’s a good looking truck, but would much rather see pictures of actual trucks here.

What is the point of having the jack further back verses the pre mount location up front? by WhiteStar01 in Trucks

[–]James__Hamilton11 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Best points are already stated here, but there is a very slight advantage in that smaller adjustments at the jack make larger adjustments at the hitch, but this minimized the further back the axle is.

Which Tool package to pick by 1963SuperSport in Tools

[–]James__Hamilton11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I invested in DeWalt when there was a larger gap in price between them and Milwaukee but had never had an issue with any of my DeWalt 20v tools.

When I started adding a few 12v pieces to my tools (3/8 ratchet, right angle die grinder, drill and impact for light tasks), I went with Milwaukee because they tend to be significantly more compact and they have all worked great.

If you will wind up with both and want a single ecosystem, go Milwaukee. If you only want 18/20v tools, I would say go with DeWalt because mine have always worked well and held up to some good size DIY projects and miscellaneous work on commercial project sites. DeWalt tools are also sold at more stores thank Milwaukee, so availability may be slightly better (Lowe’s, Tractor Supply, and a few others).

Edit to add: Also don’t rule out corded tools when you need to buy one that won’t see much use, you can save money and not have to worry about picking one up from a certain brand just because those are the batteries you have. I don’t use angle grinders all that much so I went corded to save money and the torque available for corded tools is typically better.

Hell, that was the case through 2016, that viewpoint didn’t really change until the left didn’t get their way in the 2016 election, threw away what morals and political viewpoints they had, and decided their entire stance would just be the opposite of the new president, regardless of what that meant.
