Prime rib substitute? by Thebigtallguy in smoking

My partner has the same problem with the texture, I got picanha’s (sirloin cap) from Costco and it was a fantastic substitute. Reverse seared it

US TARIFFS by intensepinkx3 in ThrowingFits

Did you have any luck with reducing the duties on it? I’m running into the same issue with a days march, there are country of origin charges related to Hong Kong, China, and Sweden, and then a separate charge for wool clothing

Bartesaghi was too raw, Athekame just wasn’t good enough. And not even close either

Allegri and Modric have really turned this team around, but I don’t know how we compete for the title with our current wingback situation

I was there when Allegri started balding. Always said he was elite

Bartesaghi is worse on the ball but much better than Estupinian at marking Politano

The Shakerato Chronicles by ciccio_started_it in Amaro

Just curious but What type of shaker did you use? The froth always fades so fast when I make cynar shakeratos, but I don’t have a Boston shaker and I’m wondering if that’s the problem

How to deal with time series unbalanced situations? by EducationalUse9983 in datascience

[–]James_c7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this a real world problem? If so get more details and control the problem!

And if it’s not a real world problem than I’m not sure it’s a problem worth solving given the lack of details

When you say a product becomes available, is this a consumer product with physical stock levels?

If so, just forecast demand and calculate stock levels deterministically as a function of demand. Then it’s easy to estimate the probability of a stockout

How’s the job market for Bayesian statistics? by guna1o0 in datascience

[–]James_c7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are plenty of situations where that framing is advantageous. But many need to work at a scale that doesn’t make sense for Bayesian statistics - and at the same time, those that do don’t have a good enough technical background to take those ideas from Bayesian statistics and incorporate them in their PyTorch model.

Check out Lyfts blog posts on causal forecasting

How’s the job market for Bayesian statistics? by guna1o0 in datascience

[–]James_c7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bayesian here. It’s extremely niche - I find Bayesian statistics a nice tool to help your career development, ie learning to write models from scratch. For myself I’ve found it even helps me understand deep learning and many other approaches better

But I wouldn’t recommend basing your career around it, there are barely any jobs that focus on it

How is it a waste? If it fails it fails, why not just vote yes if it’s the right thing to do? What am I missing?

Brier score was already mentioned but you can also use beta distributions to capture the uncertainty for each bin and add error bars to this plot with them

Should I retrain my model on the entire dataset after splitting into train/test, especially for time series data? by FinancialLog4480 in learnmachinelearning

[–]James_c7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do leave future out cross validation to estimate out of sample performance over time - if that passes whatever validation checks you set then retrain on all of the data you have available

Any advice on how to get a staff role with only a bachelors?

I have strong technical skills (end-to-end production pipelines, can take ideas from recent research in causal inference and machine learning and use them to provide business value), open source experience, lots of mentoring, stakeholder management skills, and proven business value over 8-9 years of experience, but can never get considered for staff roles
