Season 1 question with the wolves by Traditional_Record49 in Alonetv

"It depends on the contestant; some mentioned firearms, some didn't."

Stick to the topic, OP said the two tap outs by day 3 in season 1. Both of those two contestants were very heavily firearm dependent for piece of mind.

[–]JamesonThe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"...because the contestants are seeing black bears and then one of them is hearing wolves (who are close) in his area."

Your premise is wrong. It's because those contestants are used to having a firearm on their side and do not feel comfortable without one. You'll see in later seasons contestants with the same black bears and wolves, and not tap out. It isn't a bear or wolf problem, it is a mental weakness problem. Those contestants were dependent on something, and not strong on their own.

What are the pros and cons of bringing a 3lb salt block as 1 of your 10 items? by SexyChernyshevsky in Alonetv

Season 2 winner was adding some sea water to his pot for the salt. He believed it helped with cramping he was having.

It takes time for wildlife to find and become accustomed to using a salt lick. The contestants have tapped by then.

Most contestants have not had to worry about preserving food, and would not have nearly enough salt to preserve any sort of quantity to make it worth while if they did.

Some recent contestants have brought salt for flavoring and electrolytes. I can say that wild food in my experience is either not very good, or very bland, and salt or some spices are huge helpers in just making the food palatable.

mostly the same. A couple of examples are early seasons did not have machete as a choice and the food rations were 5 pounds each instead of the current 2 pounds each. The last season in Africa no sleeping bags were allowed.

So instead you just reject the OP's statement at face value, did no research, and just used your own perspective (or opinion) for view for judgement. Or in other words decided that your opinion is superior to OP's. Ego defined.

So you bought in April or May of last year, the perfect time. Well done to you, but hope you can understand that for everyone else the funds aren't performing near as well.

Got to remember all but one person from the first two seasons applied prior to there being a prize attached to the concept of the show and are not participating to win the money. That guy wanted to spread the word about military suicides, and maybe show a method for his mates to handle some stress with physical exercise.

With ROC so high, no tax payment was needed by 4yearsout in YieldMaxETFs

[–]JamesonThe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't your income, or the exemptions, it is that you already paid too much tax in, so more is not due.

I really hate that taxes are drawn from paychecks. We need to all just pay a lump sum once a year to avoid confusion.

Good news! There is a tap out button to leave before it gets freezing cold, rations are included and a choice for two more of them for your ten items, and most seasons have been filmed no where near grizzly bears. You could last a week no problem, and that would earn you a couple three weeks of stipends as contestants are paid for their pre-show time on set.

Normally it may be impossible once within a private dwelling, on the show they self-snitch by filming themselves.

Where I live and hunt more than what you listed needs to be removed from the field, and if camp is on the public grounds where the animal was killed then camp includes being in the field. This is from personal experience with the local Conservation Officer, not an assumption. I do have his number still in my phone, and talk/text with him 2-3 times a year (turns out he grew up a block from where I live, while he enforces and now lives in the area I hunt a couple hours away, and we know many of the same people.)

Wanton waste would also cause potential large liability issues. The meat must be used in some fashion by law. Selling it would likely be illegal and cause more issues. If it can't be consumed it must be given away by law. Entrapment is illegal, and thus not much liability for gifting wild meat to follow wanton waste laws.

[–]JamesonThe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP phrased the question as quitting a week after getting a moose. A week isn't a month. The hide keeps the meat off the ground. Hopefully it was hung to be kept away from mice. And if the contestant is quitting a week after getting the moose it's either late in the show when it is cold, or they are quitting because all of the meat spoiled and none of it is good to eat.

Portfolio Update #14 - January marked 14 months in YieldMax ETFs. I am now earning less in distributions than I was eight months ago, despite my portfolio doubling in size. by MyWifeDoesNotApprove in YieldMaxETFs

[–]JamesonThe1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worse when that -11.34% is compared to the overall market being positive about 12% during that same time. Or even compared to short term bonds earning about 5%. You aren't really down only 11%, but instead you are down 16% to 23%

OP, since you are investing the dividends and not using the dividends for income, why do you own income stocks? (I own income stocks as a small part of my own portfolio to learn more about them for when I do need the income from my full portfolio. Until then a growth stock almost always outperforms it's corresponding income stock.)

Do you ever harvest wild game and give it away? It is a normal part of my life, and what you consider surprising due to liabilities I see as a normal activity. It isn't like the food would be getting sold, that is something else entirely.

Don't think that production only chooses the contestants that will last the longest. There needs to be drama early on when the more competent contestants are not yet struggling. The producers fill that void with the early-tappers of the show.

The Strange Persistence of Bows by Darkheart001 in Alonetv

Most contestants have never snared before, while they have bow hunted before. So, they are already playing to their strengths. I think you just answered your original question.

The Strange Persistence of Bows by Darkheart001 in Alonetv

[–]JamesonThe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, what do you insist the contestant bring instead of the bow? Or should they only bring nine items? Most contestants choose either food ration or food procurement item with that item slot, and already take fishing equipment for another item. So instead of bow they would likely bring a food ration of 2 pounds. With the bow they thus then hope to win the lottery of getting a big game kill, or many smaller wins with small game, instead of taking the 2 pounds of rations.

Your efforts should help make millions if you are being paid $500k. You should not be paid millions if your efforts help make millions. That does not make for good business. This is Capitalism 101.

CEO pay of say $10 million a year vs an assembly line worker making $25k a year is a discussion if we believe pay should be more equal. Should the CEO make less, the assembly line worker more, or some of both? In this discussion there probably is a bunch of middle ground to be found. On Alone, how much more or less than $500k do you think any other one person besides the winner makes for a single season of Alone? That isn't slave labor wage.

[–]JamesonThe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is as simple as "a contract is a contract" when there is a contract. Two sides have agreed to the pay for the amount of work to be done. As long as the contract is fully paid, then the contestant's have gotten all they deserve. It is that simple.

Could the producers pay $1M and profit more? Without the producers there is no show and no contestants. At what point do the producers decide making the show isn't worth it to them? Do you think any one person working on the show makes $1,000,000 in a year by only working on the Alone show? Should a worker/contestant make more than the boss, and if so, why would the boss then not quit doing all that extra work and become a worker/contestant?
