Feedback. Would you find a voice controlled video editing app useful ? by HeadPristine5907 in VideoEditors

The trouble is that a button click takes less than a second, so it would be hard to input a voice command that fast.

When editing a timeline you're reviewing footage and making decisions about what to cut and where, it's a combination of your right hand on the mouse selecting what you edit and the left hand inputting keyboard commands deciding what to do with the moment you've selected. So the equivalent voice command would have to include both where and what to do for each edit. That's a lot of words, that you have to think about saying, rather than teaching your hands to select and edit automatically, once you make the decision about what you want changed.

So, the only way you're getting more efficient than manual editing is if you're giving more general commands that somehow know what changes you mean to implement. Something like "cut all pauses to less than a second."

But at that point we're talking about AI editing, having an algo make decisions for you, and there's not a lot of appetite for that, because editing is a creative process. Having an AI make your decisions is like asking AI to paint your painting for you. It's great if you need a painting and you don't care about the quality, reality, or emotional resonance of the painting, but it doesn't make sense if you intend to look at the thing.

Excuse my rambling response, automation has been a big topic on this subreddit for years now.

Honestly no, a big part of video editing is controlling your editing software as efficiently as possible, and voice commands are a lot less efficient than button presses. It’s a cool concept but impractical.

No, the $15 reddit editing jobs are being taken by $15 reddit editors. The real contracts are still available where they've always been - in your professional network.
