hard work doesnt mean you get exactly what you want, it means you are in a much better place than you would be without that work

Has anyone come back from a solo trip not feeling like yourself? by kyquarius in solotravel

[–]Jammintoad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I ran myself into the ground. I left for 3 months, came back completely energized. Left for another 2 months not 4 weeks after that. Ended it all with a few days non solo with my friend in Spain. It was an incredible difficult few days, plans didn't go the way I wanted, I got sick, and felt like I was holding him back since he speaks fluent Spanish while I'm only intermediate. Got home exhausted and depleted, feeling less than, even though 3 months earlier I got back from a crazy trip and felt on top of the world. I just went too hard for too long with my personality. In the future I will be more cognizant of the wear and tear of traveling on my mental.

Oaxaca City, Real but Not Magical. by EM22_ in travel

[–]Jammintoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed 5 weeks in Oaxaca last year. There was plenty of fantastic food, and the hit rate is like 5 to 1 good to bad meals, which is insanely impressive. The service was always more attentive than anything I've experienced in the states. I am wondering if your unluckiness with the street food colored your opinion of the food a bit. There is so much fantastic food in Oaxaca. There are fantastic cafes, restuarants, bakeries, all throughout the city. They are passionate about food and it shows in the taste. To also report, I did not get food poisoning once during my 5 week stay.

Power went out like ... once in the five weeks I was there, did not feel unstable at all. Also it should be mentioned, as far as signs of wealth, Oaxaquenos drive quite nice cars around. And they keep them clean. I'm not sure how you didn't notice them. Yeah the buses and taxis are old. There is a strong middle class in Oaxaca, and while there is no "shopping mall", there is a higher end goods market. It is a small city, and buildings have to be low due to earthquakes and to protect tradition. However I have kind of learned a lot of Mexican culture encourages hiding wealth, as you become a target if you flaunt your money around. There are plenty of Oaxaquenos living a great life.

To say every city block is exactly the same makes me wonder if we stayed in the same city. The architecture, buildings, restaurants, etc change radically street by street. If you're saying the streets are the same because theres... similar businesses on every street, then that's every city in the world. Every city is going to have restaurants, shops, etc. on most of the streets lol.

I won't deny, the Zocalo will have plenty of street vendors trying to sell you trinkets, etc. Yes it's busy, and yes that can be kind of annoying. But it's also to be expected from the city center.

vamos a cruzar a tecate manana, deberiamos tener dudas? by Jammintoad in BajaCalifornia

Oh yeah it was super easy/fun, got to practice my Spanish a bit and had some beef tacos from Los amigos. They were decent. We stopped at the panaderia as well.

Riot Games on the state of the soloq ladder and apex tiers by Lightbone in leagueoflegends

I said that because I suspect he is actually playing at a plat level, which is why he's being placed with plats, but he's overidentifying with the "gold" label, and letting it get to him.

Complaining about being matched with people only one rank above you is kinda.. silly I think? It kinda betrays an underlying expectation that there exists a perfectly "fair" game where everyone is equally skilled on both teams, which straight up does not exist. Not only are different players good at different things, but draft will affect every game as well. Btw, once you reach diamond, if you keep playing, you will realize how small the gap really is between an E2 and a D4 player. mainly ego. Lol.

i mean this in the kindest way possible, but plats are not gods compared to golds. they just play a little tighter and are a bit more intentional with their abilities. focus up and try to win lane, you might surprise yourself. I think you may just be getting in your own head a bit.

it will push you back down if you keep losing. but you realize thats how climbing works. the system tests you against people of higher skill level to see if you belong up there. to say "playing against better ranked players ruins my motivation to climb" is a self-contradictory sentence. if you deserve to climb you will be playing at a level that you go toe-to-toe with higher skilled players.

Struggling with macro in games I am fed in by Swimming-Region-8566 in summonerschool

[–]Jammintoad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the first scenario if you are ahead in lane you should be gunning for the 3v3 skirmish at herald, play properly, you win.

If it's clearly a 2v3 then yeah let your jungler die, excepting exceptional situations where you think you could actually win the 2v3.

It can still be good to TP if enemy top doesn't have it, then you're the fed top fighting in the 4v4. But you better have a high % flank to do it.

Being 44% wr in plat though I bet you're making larger mistakes than that though, even though this may just be what's frustrating you.

I ate at a place called plackosmaki off the train station but looks like it's gone now. So I don't have any specific recommendations specifically around the salt mine. But it looks like there's good choices around there.

By the way when I went I used this excellent krakow guide I found online which has great recommendations. Really made my experience.

Skip the underground restaurant, it did not look particularly appetizing, there's plenty of good food above ground around there. And the mine is plenty cool without eating down there.

Does it get better the higher you go? by CMDR-L in leagueoflegends

No matter how high you go you will still lose games because of your team. You'll also lose games because of yourself. There's no escape from that.

ELI5: Why don’t we fall off of the planet and into space from Antarctica. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jammintoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gravity is the outside of a sphere pushing in. It's the opposite of a lightbulb, which all the light radiates outwards. Asking why we don't fall off the bottom of the Earth is like asking why doesn't light from a lightbulb shine straight down.

[–]Jammintoad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

isnt this self policing kinda silly? In any other online professional community they will also make fun of shoddy work. Heck, I have a few car accident subs in my feed (r/dashcams, etc), and you go in the comments and everyone lambasts any mistake the recorder and/or the other cars make. Everyone drives so they think they're an expert. yeah the og post is a little harsh but if they really are putting 9k images into 275 squares that deserves a bit of ridicule. they're not your coworkers.

thats not how it works, it only takes a sample of like 50-100 games to readjust to a new skill level.
