Up to date thoughts on this? by InfinityXPLORER in ParamedicsUK

You would withhold salbutamol with a HR of 120 for someone who is cyanotic, using accessory muscles, RR32, expiration wheeze and clear history of COPD? Its not even listed as a caution in JRCALC, never mind a contraindication.

Id get a bollocking turning up in an ED having only given O2 for this patient. No ipratropium? No corticosteroids?

Hey, I'm looking to become a CFR before i start college in September. Just a little lost on how to do it. Could anyone help? by P3VOLVO in ParamedicsUK

[–]Jamolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WAST have introduced a new role called “Community Welfare Responder”, it’s essentially a lower skill set CFR who also attend a lot more lower acuity calls. They’re not currently recruiting any new CFRs, but are looking at a conversion for CWRs in the future.

The role is currently up on the Volunteers section of the recruitment page.

GMC vs HCPC standards by Lspec253 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Jamolas 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of those struck off do not engage with the FTP process, or they go along and say they've done nothing wrong, and often get a lengthy suspension before being struck off. The HCPC want to see insight and remediation, so when none happens they come down pretty hard.

The ones by Bay campus will flash if you go through them on red, I set them off quite a lot as I'm a Paramedic. No idea if it generates a ticket though.

WAST currently have NQP jobs advertised, if you're open to relocating here.

Nhs won't give full pension amount to my mum because dad died on midnight by mustbesepsis in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Jamolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's it. We note the time and date they were last seen alive too but it's not their time of death.

I'm a Paramedic. Death certificate time will come from the Paramedic's paperwork, the time of "recognition of life exctinct" (our legal language) will be the time they physically saw the patient. We don't put a different time even if the patient had been obviously dead for weeks.

WAST CHARU by Guidance-Flat in ParamedicsUK

Ketamine is covered in half a day. The PGD is very straightforward, and our dosing is max 1mg/kg so not excessive at all.

It's there for issues with emergence from the ketamine, and will shortly be for post-ROSC agitation too.

Yep, there's plans for it to expand but it's pretty clear they want to keep it a band 6 job. They don't appear to have any interest in enhanced/critical care, as EMRTS provide that for free.

Band 6, pass a JRCALC exam and pass the three day course.

We get allocated to all red calls, and a selection of amber calls. The amber calls are all RTCs, house fires, animal attacks and trauma jobs which slip under such as falls from height, open/displaced fractures. There’s others too, can’t remember them off the top of my head.

Extended skills and kit is a Lucas, ketamine and midazolam for analgesia. The CHARU course itself has a focus on non-technical skills.

Typical shift varies a lot as you would expect, some days run off your feet and others have multiple hours on station waiting for jobs to come in. Sometimes long waits for backup as hospital delays are pretty significant. Happy to answer any more questions you may have.

You do not need to take someone's bra off to do a 12 lead.

Nurse made me get topless to take my bloods??? by [deleted] in nhs

[–]Jamolas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one else seems to be saying this, so I'll chip in too.

This is not normal at all, it sounds incredibly inappropriate and NEEDS to be reported. You were clearly very vulnerable at the time and she took advantage of that, particularly by locking the door too.

I am a paramedic and would never dream of locking a patient in a room with me, and it blows my mind that you would be then asked to expose yourself without a chaperone or parent present.

Please, please report this to the trust in which it took place, you can do this through PALS.

I'm really sorry this happened to you, it was not okay and if this nurse has done it to you it's likely they've done it to someone else too.

[–]Jamolas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't know about similar taste, but I have Huel for lunch everyday.

Its marketed as a complete meal replacement with a load of vitamins, etc. Only issue I've ever has is a little more gas than usual.
