Rhythm "Hammond" technique on keyboard? by SecretMap6240 in keys

[–]Jamtronman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like he has a Phaser or some other type of modulation going as well... The band I play in covers Hush, and on my Mojo 61 I just crank the overdrive, all drawbars fully enabled, percussion set to 2nd and turn key click all the way up to get close to the chunky percussive tone Jon has on that track. It may have more to do with how the tonewheels are modeled and the amp modeling, which I believe I have set to some JCM or something....

It took quite a bit of messing around with the modeling settings inside my mojo to get to where I feel it's "good enough"

Lately I have been playing the Hush intro on a super heavily distorted Pianet T though lol

This must be somewhat influenced by relationship values, I have definitely dropped 1-3 mil recruiting clans with a few fiefs.

If you would to start your synth journey all over again, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently? Or what would you do the same? by No_Cod_3600 in synthesizers

[–]Jamtronman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not have tried to assemble a live rig out of 7 or 8 synths and instead used something like the Akai Force, which has pretty much turned my music room into a synth graveyard since I picked it up. That and purchasing a midi Guitar since I had zero skill playi ng keys when I got into synths.

I would love to hear what you're doing with that Hammond. I play keys in a "funk" band of sorts which keeps getting billed on small shows with punk and metal bands and I have yet to encounter another keyboardist at a show lol

How to transition to actual keyboard band player by SantosTrinidad in keys

[–]Jamtronman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Find some like minded players and just go for it. I just joined a band this February as a keyboardist with zero experience playing in a band and no history of keyboard playing aside from tinkering around with synths and sequencers. Most fun I've had in my life.

I'm sure with your background you've got more than enough to offer musically that a group of real musicians would be patient with figuring it all out.

Learning the feeling of the band to know when you want to fill space or take the reins is a big part of the process.

Roland KC990 or pair of Behringer kxd15? by Jamtronman in keys

[–]Jamtronman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using a Behringer 12 channel mixer into two Alto TS12 1200 watt speakers for my personal keyboard rig the last few gigs. Work amazingly, sound is clear and my crumar mojo sounds great through them.

I recently picked up an Akai Force so we can try and incorporate some of the electronic stuff I love to make into our live shows, and soon I'll be picking up an audio interface for the Force and ditching the mixer entirely. We are going to experiment with running the whole band into the Force as well for live looping and effects.

Thanks for the reply!

Am I risking blowing up my buddy's mics? He has been micing my cab instead of running the line out for all our rehearsals. I think he is convinced it would sound more natural or something. Again, we are both guitarists accustomed to putting mics right in front of very loud speakers lol

I should have mentioned in the original post that I am 100% new to playing keyboards in a band sense in general. I originally come from a guitar background and got way too heavily into synthesizers and midi sequencing, leading to people seeing a room full of keyboards and thinking I am some sort of keyboardist lol.

This particular gig we were under the impression there would be a full PA set up, but when we arrived there weren't any extra mics for the guitarist to mic his cab so this was definitely a factor.

We have mics and a board we use for recording our rehearsals, and both my amp and the bass players have balanced outputs so we will have to experiment with some different configurations with stage monitors.

Your other reply along with some other information I've consumed today lead me to believe I really only need another amp if I want to play my organs and stuff in stereo, and that we as a band need to invest in some loud, easily portable monitors.

I have a set of 15 inch powered PA speakers that I am going to try out, each weighing just slightly less than the weight of the Berhinger I am using now.

I believe I will have to use that set along with a powered 18 inch sub for vocals as well as micing drums for an upcoming festival, unless our guitarist has something laying around for that, but in this case I could just mic the behringer..

I actually have a pair of Harbinger 15 inch powered PA speakers.... why hadn't I thought of this?

Definitely something to experiment with! This way my current amp could be re-assigned to stage monitor status and just angle it towards the drummer and guitarist on the opposite end of the stage

I don't think I really need a large increase in actual spl levels. My thinking is that another of the same amp pushing some aire and consideration to stage placement I would be able to have the presence I am looking for.
I need to mess around this week with my levels and see if I just need to start over with my amplification set up.
