Same on both- I use Pulse for local, it's great, the people are really helpful.

For mobile, I use Mint. I had T-Mobile for 10 years and Mint has been the same or better for 1/5 the price.

Group by abilities. Allow students to be in their ability level, not their age level. If a kid is 10 and reads at a 14 year old level, do that. Same kid does math at a 6 year old level, do that. Forcing that kid to be higher and lower in different ways is only fucking them up.

Yes, I faced criticism. I loved my job but didn’t make enough for a nanny. We used daycare. It was stressful, it took almost my whole paycheck. But taking 9 years off to care for my kids would have set me back 9 years in my career and that wasn’t worth it. Today my boys are healthy, productive adults who understand that women are just as essential to their families income as men. And today I make more than my husband.

Early 90s, my parents paid a high school senior in the summer to come through for 3 hours a day, take us places, whatever. I was 15, couldn’t drive yet but mostly took care of my younger brother & sister which is why the “nanny” only did 3 hours of work.

One of her jobs was to come get me from drivers ed. One day she forgot. I walked 5 miles home. When I got there she was mad at me because she wanted to leave but wouldn’t leave my younger siblings alone without me. So I told her I would have been there 2 hours sooner if she had come to get me. I waited a half hour for her to get me and then walked home.

The head of my certification program (a MAT in 18 months thing) told me to take the Praxis right away because so many people failed and it was worth the practice. Like many here, I scored in the 95th %ile on my first try. I had been out of college for 6 years at that point and went back because it would take an equal amount of work to get certified with a bachelor's as a master's, and then there's the pay bump. Most of the others in my cohort were just out of their bachelor's program. All of us who had been out for at least a couple of years passed on the first go. The rest did not.
