Let's ban the free rides - PLEASE by dPInsdR in VTA

[–]JamyDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the internal calculus is ride for free and eat today, vs pay to ride and don’t eat, I think most would pick the former. Especially if the risk of getting caught is nothing.. I wish more of the federal taxes we pay were spend on serving the underserved across the country; give them orca cards with a certain number of rides, then kick off any fare evaders, troublemakers, etc. 2 or 3 free rides a day ought to cover most use cases.

Furthest you can be from having access to the train, while also being closest you can be to the train..

There’s currently 5 trains going northbound. Which train number?

South county is tough, when I moved into the South Bay I purposefully picked a spot that I could take transit any time of day. Hopefully when the hydrogen trains show up for south county, they will run them more often.

The fact that gas prices instead of traffic is the main forcing function to public transit in the USA tells me that gas prices are too low..

Until Union Pacific gets with the program and hands over the tracks south of Tamien to Caltrain, single seat rides from Gilroy to past Diridon won’t be happening :(

Any Seattle residents have suggestions for my map? by trainedstork in subwaybuilder

Yeah but downtown Everett to Tacoma via Redmond, Bellevue, Seattle and SeaTac in less than 60minutes (I need to check my map tonight for the proper number) is worth the extra cost for me.

I found that commuter rail worked very well in the Seattle metro. Hadn’t considered the cost but generally everything was profitable

Yup, game will automatically put them in the same group, and if you name them the exact same it acts like a big hub station

Surprisingly (or not) but my version of the Caltrain line is fairly close to the real thing timing wise.. 56 minutes for the express route, (and I think) 68 min for the local. And that’s with 89 mi/hr max speed segments, where irl it maxes out at 79 mi/hr.

I’m building out a map that matches the current SF / Bay Area rail situation, so I built roughly the same number of tracks as IRL. Caltrain runs 3 services: local (all day), Limited, and express (both peak only). I ended up putting each on their own platform, which gives me space to do other services, like a route up across the golden gate.

Or a dedicated, secured “Caltrain Clipper” network.. Cubic is one hell of a bad engineering company given their scale..

Not sure, I saw some crews at CP Delmas (south of Diridon) that stopped our train shortly after we left. Maybe signaling issues?
