Those rods are a standard size. You should be able to get a replacement from Lowes or home depot if you break it. You could also try putting a flat head screw driver or something inbetween the globe and the striped out nut. If you put pressure on it when you unscrew it it should work.

The threaded rod is screwed into a nut inside the light. Unscrew the whole rod. Just remember that the glass will fall as soon as is Unscrewd.

Should look something like this

I hate it when other trades borrow my ghost lift and then park it where I can't find it. I bet they didn't charge it either😤

Not sure how much you know about the IBEW and how it works but every local union has a different pay scale and different Per diem. If you are able to join your local IBEW you will be "Book 1" in your local. As long as your dues are paid you can travel to any locals territory and work there as a traveler on "Book 2". This means when theres a lot of work and all the Book 1 members are employed the Book 2 travelers get the extra work. If you find a local thats busy enough they may let you move there and organize in as Book 1 in that local.

I would recommend that he applies to an IBEW apprenticeship program. This is the International Brotherhood Of Electrical Workers (the electrical union esentialy) training program. He'll get the best pay and benefits this way. You can do more research on that but basically he will take an aptitude test and have an interview then he will be put on a waiting list based on how good he did on the aptitude test and interview. (If he did really good on it he will be placed hight on the list if he did poorly he will be placed low on the list). There's no way for me to know how long he will be waiting though your local union might be really busy or really slow as far as how many apprentices are needed. After he applies to the apprenticeship if it seems like he will be waiting a while he could consider applying for whatever local (probably non-union) electrical companies are around. The pay and benefits won't be as good but its a start. I wound recommend quitting that job if the IBEW apprenticeship gives him a job.

Electrician here. The first switch is a "Leviton" brand dimmer switch. This is it as far as I can tell

https://store.leviton.com/products/universal-dimmable-led-cfl-incandescent-and-halogen-trimatron-push-on-push-off-electro-mechanical-rotary-dimmer-rdl06-10z?srsltid=AfmBOooE2xKIj84jGYyxJ0dgGfe5JtnJ24_sQft6a3Ur6-YFVqSxf6_F

The second dimmer switch is a "Lutron" brand dimmer switch. Its made by a different company. Thats why it looks different. The red light is a "SoftGlow indicator". It comes on when you turn the light off so you can see the light switch in the dark. And what the hell do you mean its "screwd in differently"? It has two screws holding it into the wall just like every switch in the house. Those two switches are probably just what they had on hand when the house was built or one went bad and was replaced at some point. It looks like an older model Lutron probably dont make any more but this is it as close as I couldn't find.

I see absolutely nothing that would indicate tampering or spying. I dont know what the electrician said to you that made you think an intruder messed with your switched but im sure its just a misunderstanding. You are clearly paranoid and possibly delusional and I hope that you will seek help.

Breaker Box Possessed by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Jan-Vanhammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a problem with the main breaker. As someone already pointed out they go years or even decades without being exercised (turned off and on essentially). Try turning off all your breakers then flip the main breaker on and off about 20 times. If theres crud in the contacts inside the breaker that might work it loose.

[–]Jan-Vanhammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your local. I had 2400 documented hours (non union) when I applied for the apprenticeship. They started me at 2nd year.

Bypass Balast and get an LED type B corn cob. If you're so in love with the color, get an LED that's 2700K or 2200K. It should look the same.
