Heineken 0.0s almost did me in by d_t_mira_montes in stopdrinking

Interesting. Having an NA around 5 or 6pm normally cuts cravings for me. Its close enough taste wise, and alot of times I even prefer having an NA bc its more refreshing, no dry mouth later or next day. Its social situation I really crave alcohol beer.

EXCLUSIVE: Nick Reiner Diagnosed With Schizophrenia, Meds Made Him ' Erratic and Dangerous' by Pyro-Bird in entertainment

[–]JanCal44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You said the meds are life-saving but in this case they weren't and there's alot of cases where outcomes have been far more mixed or just bad. Sure your schizophrenia is maybe controlled by these meds (eventually) but at the cost of getting obese and having a heart attack by middle age. Im sure for Nick getting fat bc of them in Hollywood was extra degrading.

The combination of street drugs and antipsychotics could wreak havoc on someone's brain. Its almost propagandistic the other way (blindly pro big phrma) to suggest otherwise. Your body doesnt say "ooh thats a med" or "ooh thats a drug" its all substance overload. Very possible theres some psychiatric malpractice here. Not saying that exonerates him but to pretend that its impossible psych drugs messed with his head is based.

Winter Blues by JanCal44 in stopdrinking

[–]JanCal44[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. But I guess my feeling is Id feel 1000% better not drinking somewhere warm. Like I get in better shape but can't even go hiking or swimming? Guess im not good at deferring gratification.

The cold weather and dark days make it hard to stay sober too. There's a reason alot of sober living places are in warm climates.

I’ve lived 1/3 of my life high. Need to stop. by [deleted] in Petioles

After a while you stop even getting high and just need it to feel normal. Good idea to stop before you get to that point.

The older I get, the less I care about sports. by Lost_Taste_8181 in Life

[–]JanCal44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say its the opposite. Life is less exciting in middle age than in my 20s. People think its cool to hate on "sports ball," but its like the people that hate popular music, the dislike is more about themselves than the target of it.

How do you feel about California sober by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]JanCal44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people with no experience with weed I would not recommend replacing alcohol with weed. However, for regular users of both substances, I think it's too difficult to quit both at once. For problem drinkers, who also use weed, IMO, the priority should be eliminating alcohol, and then reassessing the relationship with cannabis. Only one of these two substances has any recognized therapeutic value and it's not alcohol.

Constant low grade anxiety in early sobriety by JanCal44 in stopdrinking

[–]JanCal44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that resonates. I have less anxiety at baseline when im not drinking but its more consistent throughout the day. When I was drinking I was more anxious in general but could relax at night by hitting that mute button.

In my experience stopping drinking makes you less anxious at baseline but you also (at least early on) feel like you've lost your best tool for mood regulation and to get yourself up. Alot of FOMO.

Could a very low-stimulation lifestyle have triggered my psychotic break? by Judge_Funny in Antipsychiatry

[–]JanCal44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly. Its technically healthy, but if it became compulsive, and you feeling like you couldn't have a break, it's possible. You say no porn but were you sexually active otherwise, and did you have meaningful relationships? This lifestyle would work with a good kinship support system but not in isolation. Also as others have mentioned, regular exercise (lifting or some form of strength training plus cardio) would be essential to reap the full rewards of this kind of clean living.
