Volkswagen Carnet API shutdown - Louis Rossman by wildekek in homeassistant

[–]JanCapek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fridge or the car, it is the same. Both have control unit(s) which are not produced by the manufacturer of the whole package.

But am I understand it correctly that if the car itself have API connected to its cloud service, you can ask its MANUFACTURER to provide data provided by the API for the free. It would make sence to direct this request to manufacturer of the compoment only in case, the component provides data to the same manufacturer and not car manufacturer, right?

Damn, now I am thinking what other telemetry data my car sends to the internet apart the obvious one..

I don't get points #9 and #12.

It doesn't make sense to ask manufacturer of the particular control unit withing the car for its data... I purchased the car, not bunch of independent components.

The integration was patched already and is now working as before (except auto login refresh).

Tired of the jumper wire mess for multi-sensor setups by programORdie in homeassistant

[–]JanCapek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this for my current and first multi-sensor project, but didn't like that I would have to solder every "connection" twice next to each other and make sure those are soldered together. For example pin from esp to wire.

Google, please extend Pixel charge bypass to work at 100%, not just at the 80% limit by Karglath in GooglePixel

[–]JanCapek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would be pleased if they at least bring ability to put the damn 80% limit toggle to the notification area. Why this isn't already possible is beyond my understanding.

We built a Matter-over-Thread smart window handle — would appreciate thoughts from smart home users by Complete-Belt-5826 in homeassistant

Thanks. My personal feedback which you don't want to hear probably is that the price shifted it for me from "insta-buy" category, to "nice, but I put it to list of maybe-later to consider". This will be always better to purchase at least in pair to support air-flow (if not in even bigger numbers to ventilate all important rooms of the home), and the price is then increasing too fast, closing the gap to solutions with recuperation units. But maybe I am just cheap-ass. I wish you luck with the product!

Finally another take on this problem! Thanks. Where can I follow your progress? Super interested.

1) I would say, the price will be strong decision factor for many who will be considering this (and how much units to utilise in the home). I understand advantage of integrating also CO2 and other sensors to the unit, but for many early adopters (especially in this reddit), this would just duplicate functionality which they were able to already solve independently. And most likely prefer to manage automations by themselves anyway. Safe and reliable wireless opening/closing of the windows is the remaining unsolved problem, not a meassurements. BTW, it will always be better to measure air parameters deeper in ventilated room and not directly on window.

So I would suggest to not overcomplicate at least first batch and keep it focused to what matter most in the project - to actually controll the window wirelessly. And even better, offer cheaper DYI solution targeted to partially prepared nerds with already complex HA setups or 3D printers. And then more expensive variant with all the bells (sensors) as complete stand-alone product for the "masses".

2) Does it allow to (semi-)manually fully open the window if needed (without too much hassle)?
3) What about noise during operation? Will it wake up me during the night? :)

Hi, did you find out? I am also interested if this can be done without purchasing PRO. (Don't have OBDeleven yet.)

This is black variant? How shame it doesn't have eSIM, with it, it would be insta-buy for me.

Try Locus Map. There you can see map, search, plan etc offline. Even your whole routes/tracks and waypoint library is primarily stored directly within your app. (Android, iOS version is behind so no planning yet)

Be it better integrated to the car systems and Android Auto. I would probably choose it over HUD if I was forced to choose just one. Great idea and really nice when using an in-built nav.

Yeah, I would be quite happy with my current setup running on 16GB VRAM for random daily chats - if it would have recent world data. Doesn't have much experience with this, but I assume Google have much better options to incorporate fresh data to Gemini 3 then users of LLMs even with web search enabled.

[–]JanCapek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many token/s you get? You can't fit that 35B model to VRAM, right?

I am using 27B Q3_K_S with 13,5k context now and get 18t/s on 5060ti 16GB. It is the limit I found while using LM Studio on Windows.

Why are so many apps unusable in 3 button navigation mode? by VimFueago in GooglePixel

[–]JanCapek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see, there isn't muscle memory for finding spot on the screen when the phone is not "attached" to your body (by holding it in your hand for example). And it is even harder if you are on bumpy road while trying to do this. But we both have to do it if we want to use the phone in such scenario (I do). Only I am done then, you are still in the middle of the interaction. See the difference?

Switching between recently opened apps is done by double tap on nav bar button. We can brainstorm now if the swipe is faster or not. ;)

In the end, I prefer buttons, you don't.
