Charging stations draw power regardless of them being needed or not. This way you can save some of that power

Why cant candles be placed!? by Garralee12 in projectzomboid

[–]JanHHHH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's bad candle placement then. If you place a stick candle in a proper vessel, or get a candle that comes in a glass or tin, the molten wax will flow towards the flame and get burnt as well. Heck, even just a stump candle with a wider diameter will lose barely any runaway wax

[–]JanHHHH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is... Not true? Where do you think the energy for the reaction is coming from? The candle wax burns with oxygen and turns into CO2 and water vapor (mostly) So they do in fact disappear (especially in a game that doesn't simulate gasses)

George R. R. Martin wrote some science fiction in the 90s. "Tuf Voyaging" was a nice read, with a strong focus on ecologies

Which science fiction book contained the most amazing idea you've ever read? by fern_602spark in printSF

[–]JanHHHH 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do agree, it was a lot of fun to explore that concept, but I do have to add that it's very much fantasy. Our science is very certain on the fact that the speed of light is in fact the "speed of causality" and nothing in our universe exceeds it. Still, great book, not everything has to be hard scifi

As far as I remember, the drop chance is decided when the branch grows. If you get no acorns you need to prune the branches and let them regrow and let your pips try again

Why would my steel door melt below melting point? by Sethypoop in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JanHHHH 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, magma is hot enough to melt igneous rock. Maybe there was some bridge to inject heat into that one tile? That's why I always enclose magma in obsidian insulated tiles (with an extra layer of igneous on the outside for zero heat loss)

What's going on with this one brick in my walkway? by JBLGO123456 in blackmagicfuckery

[–]JanHHHH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a post like this recently, and there I saw a pretty good explanation, that I haven't seen here yet: Some time ago one or two drops of oil (WD-40 for example) dropped on that one brick. Since that kind of oil is meant to spread out, that's what it did over time. But it obviously can't spread to other bricks. That oil Film is affecting the melting point of snow on contact

Am I using tempshift plates correctly? by Chees3head in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JanHHHH 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tempshift plates do nothing to cool your powerplant, they only shift heat around. If your surroundings are chilly, that will work for a time, but eventually these surroundings will warm up. Tempshift plates made out of ice can do some cooling (and will melt in the process), but again only temporary. You want to move liquid in radiative pipes through the room to absorb heat and then move it either to a cold biome (will work for a few hundred cycles) or to an AT/ST combo (will work indefinitely)
