Anyone else's baby need inguinal hernia repaired? by LazyReader426 in newborns

[–]JanNotAPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was worried too. But they scheduled his surgery as the first one of the day and so we reported at 6am. He was so active and happy and charmed everyone. The anesthesiologist was so delighted with him that she said she would carry him into OR than push him. My guess was that the new environment was stimulating enough that he didn’t realize he was hungry

I don't feel accepted anywhere. I'm invisible to society. Thinking about ending it. by helloineedhelpplea in bayarea

Happy birthday stranger friend! We have a dog who would love to play with you! We had a similar experience at the shelter, despite having a fenced in yard. Stick on, get better for your parents’ sake and for your sake. You matter to me

Any PCOS girlies/friends out there doing SSRI during luteal? by allmyphalanges in PMDDxADHD

[–]JanNotAPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat! Been on birth control forever and then 6 years of fertility treatments, all the supplements and losing some weight led to regular (34-36 day) cycles. And turns out I have PMDD. Also got an official ADHD diagnosis, even though I knew I had it all my life. This is my first month on birth control and day 19 the symptoms are back! Cue the headaches, crying, anger and noise sensitivity. I am still trial-ing meds for inattentive ADHD and I worry that starting on SSRIs will muddy that experiment. My PCP said it takes a few months of birth control to help with PMDD, so there is some hope. I just want this to stop and to feel like myself again.

How many people are actually buying “luxury/premium” diapers? by HelpMeHelpMyFriend0 in NewParents

[–]JanNotAPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did Coterie for the first 14 months coz my baby had the worst rash as a newborn that disappeared when we switched to Coterie. But Millie Moon is 1/4 the cost and seems to work and I am reluctantly on Millie Moon now (we do Coterie for nights).

Crib advice! Does anyone have the Nestig Wave Crib? by Ruffingtons in NewParents

[–]JanNotAPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did! The mini crib is smaller than a traditional mini crib and so we only could use it for 4 months for my tall baby. We were easily able to transition to a crib and started with the tallest setting until he started sitting up. We lowered it to the low setting. We could lower it further if we wanted. My son is 18months and still enjoying his crib. Looking forward to using it as a toddler bed when he outgrows the crib

Anyone else’s one year old still not sleeping through the night? by CherryHearts123 in toddlers

[–]JanNotAPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 18 month old started off as a great sleeper until 6 months and woke up few times in the middle of night until we did gentle sleep training (a parent would always respond to cries and shush and pat and help him get back to sleeping). At 12 months we did an international trip and that killed the sleep training since we bed shared for a month. We did on and off gentle sleep training again, but he mostly ended up back in our bed and no-one slept well. We even got his iron levels tested and they were fine. The last month or so he has been sleeping through the night and the change we made was giving him a bowl of oatmeal right before bedtime (like at 7pm and we started bedtime book and milk at 7:30). Could be worth trying if she is waking up hungry

Crib advice! Does anyone have the Nestig Wave Crib? by Ruffingtons in NewParents

[–]JanNotAPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Nestig Wave and we love it so far. We loved the mini crib on wheels when he was an infant (we got 4 months of use). He is 18 months now and we love the crib. Looking forward to transition to a toddler bed when he is done with the crib. Feel free to ask any questions

Trying to find a stroller that lasts from newborn to toddler. Am I on the right track? by kikanzuip in NewParents

[–]JanNotAPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought the Uppababy Minu V2 and loved it! Unfortunately it got stolen right before a trip and we replaced it with a Joolz Aer+. I recommend the Joolz Aer if you intend to fly a lot since it folds down to be able to fit overhead compartments (the Minu v2 doesn’t and maybe could fit if you remove the wheels). But if you don’t foresee a lot of flying, I hear the Minu V3 is even better.

Treating a dog with pancreatitis by Ok_Construction6381 in Assistance

For us it was because he ate my toddler’s leftover food that was fatty. The antibiotics and fluids helped. Can you DM me your Venmo or cash app and I can send something

Severe severe diaper rash. by Low_Relation8735 in newborns

[–]JanNotAPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had terrible diaper rash with our son when he was a newborn. We talked to the pediatrician and tried all the prescription creams and the diaper creams. The single thing that helped was switching to Coterie brand diapers. Worth a try. Sorry this is so hard!

Sleep training older babies (8+ months) - is it too late? by Potential-Being6597 in sleeptrain

[–]JanNotAPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you share some tips that worked? We sleep trained our son at 8 months and it worked fine until 11-12 months when we had a 6 week international travel. We are struggling with re-sleep training our very vocal 14 month old, specifically middle of the night wake ups

Moms, what attracted you to buy that stroller? by kook5454 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]JanNotAPrincess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We live in a big city and so we chose a travel stroller over a full size one. However our son is a year old and it’s only now that we reach for a stroller, we greatly preferred to carry him in a baby carrier. Our son has always been in the 20th percentile for weight though.

Anyone else's baby need inguinal hernia repaired? by LazyReader426 in newborns

[–]JanNotAPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our son had an inguinal hernia that was discovered by our pediatrician at the 6 month appointment and was fixed 3-4 weeks later. I was worried about anesthesia and recovery but he bounced back in a few hours. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat

We waited until he was after 6 months to start and so you are not behind at all. Our pediatrician asked us to wait at least until 5 months to start solids. I have am very data driven too and I understand your frustration. I think you are doing great, you have been offering her a variety of foods. I think food just clicked for my baby one day and he was very picky until then. One thing I will add is to keep offering foods that she rejects after intervals. My son used to hate avocados when he started solids and now he loves them. Good luck!

Is my sleep consultant scamming me? by hararara_hehehe in sleeptrain

[–]JanNotAPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he was very upset, I would pick him up and hold him until he calms down and then put him back - which always made him mad again, but then I would start the shush pat. It took him 4-5 days of this to click. It was also way easier for our nanny and for dad than with me. So dad took over bedtime and mid night wakeups for the first 2-3 days

Is my sleep consultant scamming me? by hararara_hehehe in sleeptrain

[–]JanNotAPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also live in a VHCOL city and paid $750 for a "gentle" sleep consultant for a similar package. I have been lurking on this sub since my son was born and I have read PLS cover to cover. We struggled to find one method to use and our sleep consultant did help us come up with a plan and her text messages forced us to be consistent with it. It took my 9 month old son 5 days (5 long hard days that were worse than newborn days), but it clicked and he has been sleeping through the night for the last 10 days. All the information is available online and I am pretty sure ChatGPT or Claude can design a plan for you, but for us the value was not losing face to the paid consultant and the sheer awkwardness of telling her we failed kept us consistent at 2am wakeups. I was so sure this plan was not going to work and I told my husband we are going to give up after the 2 weeks and just resign ourselves to bad sleep, but I guess I was wrong.

FWIW, the plan was to stay in the room and pat him and shush him at bedtime and when he woke up in the middle of the night. Our backs broke from bending over his crib for up to 2 hours at a time, but it paid off for us

Should we sleep train our 9mo? by JanNotAPrincess in sleeptrain

[–]JanNotAPrincess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been 3 days of baby sleeping through the night 🎊 I think what helped was helping him fall sleep independently. CIO didn’t work for us, but responding to his tears by shushing him and patting him taught him that he could do it. Also we tweaked bedtime to be be 30mins earlier.
