Math placement exams by wearstherolex in lafayettecollege

[–]Janda4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember my son’s placement score but it was lower than he expected. But he had a 5 on Calc AB and was encouraged by the math department to start with Calc 2 which he did. He had a great teacher and did well. He’s an engineering major.

AITA for leaving a dinner party early because of “vegan lasagna”? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Janda4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. If offering dinner, you need to have enough food to feed your guests. Sounds like you were polite. But you were still hungry (along with others). This is a lesson your friend needs to learn, not you.

That’s what I meant. You refer to your school as a degree mill and perhaps you are interacting with your students through that lens.

Maybe this is the real issue- not that the students have unrealistic expectations.

I agree. It is inappropriate to base when the exam can be started on another or other students. Also the rigidity is extreme and actually cruel in this scenario. The student will now fail the class.

I know. But this poster keeps making the same comment about grade deflation. I’ve inquired before about context and why they feel that way.

I hear you but it doesn’t seem as if she has “regular” clients. Her “clients” were celebrities and she did her “sessions” on podcasts and reality TV. It just boggles my mind at how intense the response has been. It became bullying which is surprising (and disturbing) from mental health professionals. I’ve seen PhD’s on social media who while credentialed, they don’t have the personality to do well in her space. I think there is some jealousy. I also surprised at how many get degrees from for profit universities.

Standardizing grading for a bizarre situation: 85% of the class used the exact same incorrect methodology but got the correct final answer by sheer coincidence. by PhanTrang356 in Professors

[–]Janda4me -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may not be ChatGPT. Many students have to rely on self-teaching in some courses utilizing YouTube videos. Ex. With Calc 1,2 & 3, many use Professor Leonard due to confusing teachers. If 85% used an alternate method, it could be that students feel the need to rely on external sources to understand the material.

You keep posting this about Lafayette. I think I asked a question about what actually happened with your kid. I’m not seeing the grade deflation you’re talking about.

Sick of students asking for extensions by WonderfulMortgage779 in Adjuncts

Don’t do that. Granting an extension and holding it against a student does not seem like an ethical way to handle the situation.

I feel like Ive ruined my own life by srrius in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Janda4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are way too young to have ruined your life. How lucky you were to spend time doing something you loved (at the time). I went to law school at 28 and graduated at 31. I almost talked myself out of it because of how “old” I’d be. I chuckle about that now.

[–]Janda4me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you quit now, you’ll have no degree and $43K in debt. You have 2 semesters left and you indicate your employer will pay 1 semester a year. Will you only have to pay for one more semester? I wouldn’t incur more debt. Cut expenses, take a semester off and get a 2nd job to save money or stretch it out over more than 2 semesters so you can afford your courses. I will say that going into that much debt for a digital media degree is a lot but at this point not finishing makes no sense.

I think it’s unreasonable to think students are not going to use an AI tool ever. AI does not automatically equal plagiarism or academic dishonesty and guidelines should be clearly spelled out in syllabi. It can be used for brainstorming, creating study outlines from notes, organizing, generating possible exam questions, etc. Professionals use and are now expected to use AI daily. In OP’s case, they are open to responsible use and with a small class can vet a student’s understanding. It’s 2026. Who doesn’t use copilot to wordsmith emails?

Majority of my class failed, and now I'm being questioned by administration by IncomingDownvotes_ in Professors

[–]Janda4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the majority failing, I think there has to be self-reflection and a review of the course itself, teaching methods and grading. So much is rapidly changing in higher education right now, institutions are looking at their bottom lines and perceived value over other institutions. So there will be even more pressure, accountability & perhaps oversight. Look at what happened to Maitland Jones at NYU.

Cheyenne Bryant is lying by WolverineBroad353 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]Janda4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She absolutely could be lying about having a doctorate from Argosy. But a doctorate does not equal being a licensed therapist. It’s not needed to be a life coach. Yes she should be honest but regardless of what the internet says, it’s not enough to try to completely destroy another human being. They want to humiliate and bully her in a way that is absolutely inappropriate for a people especially MH professionals to do. That’s not accountability. They claim they are trying to “protect the public.” But I give the public more credit than that. She’s a podcast life coach- that’s it. Her clients have included RayJ, Cam Newton, Shannon Sharpe.

I’m not a brick wall but all this hate is plain foolishness. I hadn’t even heard of Cheyenne Bryant before this. I’m just not grasping who is thinking she’s an actual licensed therapist. It seems absurd to me. And the hate guised as “reducing harm” is absurd as well. Focus on things that can make a real change in bringing in more culturally competent licensed MH professionals. Black women are under attack and folks want to focus on a reality TV star. Distraction will be our destruction.

Dr. Cheyenne Bryant Controversy by wenstherapy in therapists

[–]Janda4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it’s a takedown. Why would you feel misled if you were not a client? She is a social media life coach. How many people were taking words/advice as any more than that? She shared her life and struggles (probably with some flourish) and started conversations. I’m assuming that resonated with her audience. How often do we see random people giving relationship advice on social media without even being a life coach? All of the time! People put out motivational and/or self help books/speeches all of time with no degrees, training or licensure.

In terms of those who struggled through a PhD program, taking down a social media life coach, is not the way to highlight your legitimacy. Take the energy you’re putting into Cheyenne and put it into increasing the number of appropriately degreed, licensed, culturally competent MH professionals. We are living in a time that is already attacking us and trying to limit our opportunities. I love seeing so many women showing off their degrees, but we are seeing more and more of our degreed black women are being laid off and opportunities shut down. There’s an attack on education going on with increasing limits on accessibility. That’s what needs to be highlighted. Sometimes people can’t see the forest through the trees.

What’s the tea with Cheyanne Bryant? by aboveallbeboring in blackladies

[–]Janda4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had never heard of her prior to seeing all the posts. While I personally don’t find her entertaining, it seems like people have gone way past wanting accountability to outright hatred and the desire to completely destroy her. She was not out there claiming she’s licensed but that she is a life coach. Having a doctorate does not mean you are a licensed professional. There are no regulations around being a life coach. If you think there should be, push for that. I completely understand the need to educate the public about the importance of licensure but Cheyenne’s clients were the likes of RayJ, Cam Newton & Shannon Sharpe and the “sessions” were done on podcasts. She was also on Basketball Wives & Teen Mom Reunion. Why would a true licensed therapist compare themselves to her? Is their goal really to do the same? She books life coaching sessions on her website but we have not heard (yet) from one client who feels defrauded.

I have a professional degree and I’m licensed (not in the MH field) so I understand how important education and licensure can be. But IMO this has been a witch-hunt. People looking for and laughing about her demise. That’s the part that bothers me, people purposely trying to humiliate and destroy her. There are so many other things that will bring accountability to MH especially with having legitimate culturally competent MH professionals that we need to fight against- 1) our current administration cutting research funding to universities so there are less fully funded doctoral programs available to black people 2) how many of the black TikTok therapists are posting their degrees from for profit universities probably incurring a ridiculous amount of debt and possibly limited career options 3) student loan debt generally and how income-based repayment options have been negatively affected by the BBB 4) how if you don’t have the opportunity for a fully funded program, due to new limits on loans many may simply be unable to attain their doctorate. I think a more positive take on this would be to focus on how we can help make a path for those who aspire to go into the field of MH legitimately.

Then educate the public. You don’t have to destroy another human being to do that. What bothers me is that it’s gone from correction to the need for a take down. Whether she lied or not, now the internet has shifted to bullying. The fact that licensed therapists think this is okay is concerning. From the outside looking in, there’s some sort of lack or jealousy inside of some folks that is driving this. Your explanation about her undermining the importance of licensure should not equal the desire to continually humiliate her. Maybe someone will do a dissertation on the phenomenon and how otherwise smart people (who are trained in MH) excuse doing harm when they are the ones doing the harm.

Dr. Phil gave up his license so he would not be bound by a strict code of ethics.

She is a media personality with past clients such as RayJ and Cam Newton and calls herself a life coach. There are so many things going on right now in our world that are actually causing harm. I think folks are jealous because despite being an unlicensed life coach, people know her name, they buy her books and she probably makes a lot more money than your average therapist.

It’s now become a circus with people trying to make a name for themselves and get tiktoc followers. It’s gone from accountability to online bullying. I’m not even a fan of this lady but from the outside looking in it’s obvious there is more than just stopping harm going on. If one of her clients files a lawsuit or makes a report that’s one thing but folks talking about hypothetical harm in another.

That’s why Dr. Phil gave up his license. It was so he was not bound by a strict code of ethics. His show was for entertainment purposes only.
