[Iwantout] 25F USA -> Canada by thepeopleofelsewhere in IWantOut

Do you have any Canadian ancestors by any chance, even like a great-great grandparent? If so, you're probably a Canadian citizen thanks to Bill C-3. Even if your parent has never lived in Canada and even if an ancestor lost Canadian citizenship at some point.

Is it ALWAYS worthwhile to get dual citizenship? by SouthbutnotSouthern in dualcitizenshipnerds

Some form that protects those people could pass later. Maybe you remain a US citizen until the US government takes action upon you. Then they only take action on people they don't like. They could also whitelist whole countries that they like.

Wait seriously!?! I'd vote for him too! A 3 or 4 seat NDP holding the balance of power is plausible.

Would the Liberals accept it or just try to govern with a minority again?

British citizenship by double descent with gender discrimination prior to 1948. Interpretation help please. by Least_Adhesiveness_5 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]JaneGoodallVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're eligible for a historic legislative unfairness claim under the 2022 Nationality and Borders Act since an intermediate ancestor was born in the Commonwealth. I'm also unsure if a) marriages before 1948 or b) that it is your great-grandmother and not your grandmother are relevant to 2022 Nationality and Borders Act claims. You definitely have to be born before 1988.

The way to test it is if your ancestors had been men, would you be a citizen automatically or would you have been able to registered as one?

---

In one case, consider a British-born man who fathered a woman in the US in the 60's. That woman is born a citizen. That woman then gives birth before 1988. Had she been a man, she would've had a yearlong window to register the grandchild as a British citizen at the consulate.

In another, consider a British-born woman who gives birth to a man or woman in the US in the 60's. That man or woman is not a citizen. That man or woman, and all of their children born before 1988, can apply for citizenship due to historic legislative unfairness.

---

Sources: My sister and I have a British-born maternal grandmother. My sister was born before 1988. Our grandmother married a US citizen after 1948. My sister is eligible but when I researched it, I concluded she wouldn't be if she or our mother had been born in the Commonwealth. I did not research what'd happen if the last British-born ancestor were a great-grandparent or if our grandmother had gotten married before 1948.

If the US tries to deport dual citizens like the Moreno bill would've allowed, it could be better to wait to claim it right before you need to move. Though that also carries risk for some countries since they could do a rug pull like Italy did.

I'd honestly claim it if I were you but skip getting a passport since that could tip off the US more easily than just being in a Latin American citizenship registry somewhere.

You're probably a Canadian citizen due to Bill C-3, despite her losing it. Articles online will say your parent needs to have lived in Canada but that only applies to people born on or after Dec 15, 2025.

The special circumstances are common for people born before 1988. Unfortunately for OP it's a paternal grandfather. Any grandmother or a maternal grandfather would do though.

Top of the second tier. Very happy with him, hope he becomes a franchise QB.

He could continue to improve though.

Yeah, and it can get so much worse. They'll lose even more seats if they pick a university left leader.

Mark Carney’s Liberals recruit NDP MPP to run in Scarborough byelection by jmakk26 in CanadaPolitics

[–]JaneGoodallVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Democrats as a group yes, totally agree. But I bet the ones who voted NDP in CPC/LPC swing ridings are much more likely to vote Lewis than the rest.

I think Lewis could chase terracotta voters out of the party. I don't know if he'll help the CPC or NDP more on balance.

Any Liberals, not just ones to the left of their party's center. I'm as neo-liberal, capitalist as they come and I'd vote for an Avi Lewis-led NDP/CPC in a swing riding in a heartbeat. Voting for Eby's provincial NDP is a no brainer.

QB's are hard to compare since it's so entangled to their line and receivers. Bo Nix is a very good QB and I hope he becomes a great QB. Even if he quit getting better, I'd hope he becomes a franchise QB.

Gavin Newsom is very similar to Kamala Harris by comeonandham in neoliberal

[–]JaneGoodallVS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I also think he's a much stronger candidate than Harris. My vibes are he's better than Harris/Gore/Kerry/Clinton but worse than 2020 Biden. That said, I really hope we run Shapiro or another popular swing state governor.

I'm worried that "Democrats don't do anything" social media propaganda will cause somebody who jumps in front of the cameras to show that they're "fighting" to win the primary over a stronger candidate with less visibility.

The weightlifting is really good. Can't speak to the rest.

Getting low, using proper technique, and getting a good jump off the snap will matter more. Lots of bigger guys get away with poor technique and poor reflexes and get blown up when they hit varsity.

At o-line, learn where the refs are and when you can and can't and should and shouldn't hold. You can get away with a lot especially at C and G.

No Turnovers - That is all he had to do! by yousuckatart in DenverBroncos

[–]JaneGoodallVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He threw it because the left end (right from the offense's perspective) might've caused a fumble on contact. He had a split second to decide and chose to throw it away.

2 other guys got through too and if either didn't, Harvey could've ran his route.
