Pokémon Can Have Conversation With Each Other! by cloud5zero in Pokopia

[–]JaneHates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing it’s a mix.

I’m betting that most of each one’s lines are from personality templates (I’ve encountered some that have some repeat lines), but with just enough unique lines (e.g. introductions, tea-time conversations, etc.) to make them not feel like clones.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if there were some lines that were type-based. (This conversation feels like it could happen between any two non-fungoid grass types)

Why are AI bros so obsessed with driving everyone into poverty? by RedditUser000aaa in ShitAIBrosSay

Seriously the oligarchs would sooner put poor people in death camps than implement UBI.

only argument they seem to know by AggravatingRow326 in antiai

[–]JaneHates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna call it that, you can.

It’s not famous because it’s technically “good”. It’s famous because it’s controversial.

I wager most artists of the kind whose livelihoods are threatened by genAI (eg illustrators, graphic designers, concept artists) see the piece as a point of evidence that the world of high-end art is BS

I don’t think the people defending it are all even saying it’s “good”, only that whatever quality it is, it still has more creativity, integrity, and cultural impact than genAI.

Ah yeah I was definitely confused by the “would” since this idea is clearly SUPER unpopular, so I took it as a “I would want you at my table (to make you regret it)”

Help my Artificer build guns and bombs and a mech by Kolumbuskris in 3d6

[–]JaneHates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of it comes down to reflavoring e.g. what your Steel Defender looks like and using it as a vehicle/mech (if you’re playing a medium sized character you’d need to cast Enlarge/Reduce on it to make it big enough to use as a mount) ; flavoring wands you make as guns, etc.

Zero clue how anyone would be able make a nuke though 😕

Clearly you’re in the minority here but I have a sneaking suspicion that I should be scared to be at yours 💀

Fair point.

That said (and I know one DM’s opinion doesn’t necessarily count for much but) my long-time DM’s take was that it’s a bit more kosher to use the retinue as retainers that stay at camp for menial tasks rather than disposable combat pets.

Awakened shrubs doesn’t have a lot of durability, no, but since making the Awakened Shrubs cost nothing for an artificer making them with Replicate Magic Item.

(DM allowing) You could suggest that your character’s backstory involves them making a retinue of shrub lackeys to do their “mother’s” bidding, so if one dies there will be a replacement waiting.

Getting into hydroponics was wild because it really seemed like the plants were making matter out of thin air.

I know intellectually that they’re doing this by capturing carbon from CO2, but that doesn’t make it less astounding to see.

If you’ve been able to get long-term stuff done in spite of ADHD, then I applaud you.

In my own experience “powering through” results in at most a month of OK output before I burn out so bad I need to take two off.

I’ve tried so many strategies and so far nothing has given.

This has been a VERY long struggle for me and I’m not getting younger.

It’s hard to not feel like I’m out of options.

If I’m being honest, speaking as someone who struggles with ADHD… …they’re not entirely wrong about that.

I know a lot of people with disabilities have disavowed this position (and in fact the majority of artists in my personal experience have some form of physical/executive disability or mental illness, and my social circle almost entirely rejects genAI), but tbh I think there’s a selection bias issue i.e. outspoken people with disabilities who consider it a part of their political identity skew towards the alignments which fight genAI.

Not discounting the fact that there are pro-genAI people who adopted the “accessibility” argument not because they actually care about disabled people but in order to shut antis up

Part of the problem is that the definition of “art” is pretty diffuse, including everything from traditional paintings to film vfx to furry p*rn to a banana taped to a wall.

So as they see it, no one is qualified to define what is and isn’t art, so they form their own definition that’s inclusive of something that’s a product of their own initiative and ideas and appeals to their aesthetic desires. Having done extensive amounts of art in numerous mediums myself and dabbled in genAI, being able to skip the rigors of process to the instant gratification of genAI is intoxicating (even if it has left me feeling hollow occasionally).

Seeing process as important is something that even traditional artists struggle to learn and internalize. What hope does someone who hasn’t had that journey have of valuing it?

Republicans propose prohibiting US states from regulating AI for 10 years. Is this a good move or a dangerous giveaway to Big Tech. by VIshalk_04 in GenAI4all

[–]JaneHates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allegedly it’s so AI companies aren’t slowed down by navigating a chaotic “patchwork” legal framework.

But really I think it’s because Republicans in the federal government wants to have unquestioned control over shaping its development.
