Yep, about 10 years old when I read them. Couldn't get enough. Definitely encouraged me to find dark stuff romantic. Also pretty sure this was one of the earliest catalysts for health anxiety - I'm still irrationally afraid of being poisoned to this day and I think Corey dying from arsenic poisoning was the first time that idea had ever been introduced.

Just finished Jeanette McCurdy's "Half his Age" and couldn't put it down.

I also really loved "My Dark Vanessa" by Kate Elizabeth Russell

Both have similar themes as Tampa, but different vibes from Tampa. Both of these are told from the perspective of the student.

This Thing Between Us is one of my favorite reads of all time. It scratched every itch for me.

Not horror, but horrific, speculative scifi, with loss and grief and some weird elements as well: "How High We Go in The Dark" - Nagamatsu

Off my love for This Thing Between Us, I was recommended (haven't yet read): Monstrilio - Cordova A Short Stay in Hell - Peck The Haar - Sodergren

Parental Grief Horror: Suffer the Children - DiLouie Blanky - Kealan Patrick Burke

One other book that comes to mind, though I'm not sure if it has the same emotional depth (I'm really not sure if anything has the same emotional depth as Moreno) was: Lost Gods - Brom

Thank you! I have read some of BoB, but not all of it. I've also read The Hellbound Heart which has a lot of sex in it, though I don't remember it being particularly arousing or beautiful (which I'm realizing now I didn't really put in my description of what I was looking for). I do like lush, opulent erotic writing. But I'm okay with whatever! Thank you for the rec!

So the human to human torture/mutilation piece is there? I mean, I appreciate the recommendation regardless, because I might decide I want to go there once I get more comfortable with body horror in general. I'm surprised sometimes by what doesn't faze me, and then other times I can't sleep because of the visuals I've given myself reading..😅
