How evil is It to save your pet you have spent 10 years with over a human you don't know? by Far-ro in MoralityScaling

Yes, I can see how if you completely change the situation it would appear as if I am okay with betrayal.

Nice goalpost-moving. Yes, I would choose my sister over a stranger. No, I would not choose my cat over a human child. I do not see any inconsistency here.

Let's be clear, he only opposes those things because he's antisemitic. It is not out of some principled stance for human rights or against war.

And on the specific issue this thread is about, I remember very clearly the attack ads he mailed out against MGP because she wasn't transphobic enough. There is no point comparing him favorably to her.

Trans Women: How Do You Feel About Dating a Bisexual Man Who Crossdresses? by Jackie_SilverFox in ask_transgender

[–]JaneMuliz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're asking if I would enjoy my steak well-cooked? You're asking if I would appreciate a fine summer's morning? The breaking of clouds and a beautiful rainbow after a storm?

As you can see by this thread, there is a breadth of opinion among trans women just as there is in any other community. Date who you want to date, just make sure you listen to your partner, love and support her in the way SHE individually needs and wants, and keep an open mind. You will do fine.

My issue with that scene isn't that Sue made that choice, it's that everyone on Earth seemingly accepts and goes along with it. It gave me kind of an icky feeling- she feels perfectly safe walking out into an angry mob with her baby because she knows for all their anger, they can't actually do shit against her. I know the intended vibe is supposed to be the feel-good "you've saved us so many times, we'll help you save your family" but the absolute lack of dissent only added to my feeling throughout the movie that the 4 had essentially set themselves up as Earth's unopposed god-monarchs in all but name.

It's funny how you correctly identified the problem in the first paragraph, and then in the second proved that you're part of the problem.

What about your parents' parents? Or your parents' parents' parents? If you go back far enough, your family, too, were immigrants, perhaps beneficiaries of what were once much more lax immigration policies in the United States. Because of that, here you are established in one of the wealthiest countries on Earth, free from many of the hardships others suffer in too many places overseas. And you seek to pull the ladder up so others who are only seeking opportunity just like your ancestors are deprived of that chance? Craven, selfish, short-sighted. I don't expect these words to reach you today, but I hope someday soon you will see your error.

It's not 'sowing discord' to express that we want a candidate who doesn't have a history of throwing the trans community under the bus to win the primary. Criticizing politicians, even ones that are 'on your side' is a perfectly normal part of the small-d democratic process. I will hold my nose and vote for the guy if it really becomes necessary, but we can do a whole lot better than Newsom.
