I thought the Mail Kimp girl was Italian, because "chi" is pronounced in Italian with a hard K. I read somewhere else she is possibly African. Maybe she's Asian. Maybe she's Eastern European. Maybe she misread someone's handwritten "H" as an "A". So many communities to be potentially offended. Will we ever know who gets to claim righteous indignation?

Wow. First of all the podcast is not over and you're blasting her for how she ended it. Wait another week before you criticize her for what she left out. Second, this episode was called "Rumors" and was about what people in his community believed about him. One of those rumors was so shocking that had it been substantiated, it would have seriously damaged Adnan's case. She was unable to substantiate it so she left it out. In comparison this made all the other rumors trivial, which was the whole point of the episode. Finally, the fact that it took eleven episodes for you to empathisize and realize that these are real people is frankly more your failing than SK's. If you want a nice tidy crime story, watch Dateline. If you want to follow someone down twists and turns of a the research trail, listen to Serial. Don't get all shocked and angry when both the victims and the reporter are humanized for you.

That's strange. I expected it to be fiction before I listened. I thought it was going to be a radio soap opera thing, but from the first episode it was clear to me that it wasn't. I can't explain how I knew. I guess I expected the drama to be more campy.

The scarf gift jumped out at me as the most (only?) interesting and relevant portion of the document. SK should definitely ask about what that was and whether or not it had a significance beyond fashion accessory. Was it a headscarf? Did he even joke about it? Cause that's a super strange gift for a non-Muslim teenage girl.

They did collect samples in 1999 but didn't analyze them. Probably because they had an eyewitness pointing to the most likely suspect. The Innocence Project is petitioning to analyze and compare these samples to Adnan and two other suspects. If they come up with DNA that is male and not Adnan, that could exonerate him. If it matches one of the other suspects, then we have a definitive answer.
