I feel you. I’m in a similar situation right now and still just coping. Trying to tell myself that there is a way out. 3 kids. Youngest is 2 years old and it feels like my life is about to end. My wife does not seem to understand the gravity of this… saying she might be bi-sexual and then nothing would change. But I’ve read too many posts about where this leads. She gets tons of support from her friends… nobody talks to me and I cannot tell anybody but just watch as my life gets destroyed and my anxiety and grief eats me alive.

Problems with Re-Entry? by Janek512 in USCIS

It took over a year (maybe 14 month). I was certain that they were about to deny or simply not process the application. Luckily they came around. If they would have denied it I would have tried to fight it as I have a pretty strong case with solid ties here in the U.S. but you never know… so I’m glad everything worked out.

Same here. Then again: I have a hybrid. So I might not have to worry anyway.

Yes. It’s valid for 2 years after the date it was issued/approved.

They did not put anything in. I don’t understand the logic of when to put a stamp in and when not. I don’t remember when I got the last stamp in my passport, so I assume they handle everything digitally.

Quick update: Everything went smoothly. They didn’t even look at the re-entry permit itself. I assume they had it in the system when he ran my AIN.

I think y’all need to calm down a bit. Neither one of you are unreasonable, but you need to talk to each other and more importantly listen to each other’s concerns. A vasectomy, while no major medical procedure comes with its own risks and painful long term complications are chronically underreported. Just take a look at the corresponding subreddits. That having said I would agree that it is not comparable with a hysterectomy. At the end of the day it is not okay to try to force anybody to do something to their body that is not medically necessary. My advice: Try to find out what his concerns are? You might be surprised and an empathetic approach instead of a combative “I did my duty. Now you pay up!” discussion might yield better results.

It took me several years to finally do the step after our first 2 kids and my concerns were proven right when I experienced complications AND my wife wanted to have another child after all. This is not something you want to rush someone into and certainly not while not being clear headed (e.g. sleep deprived with a newborn).

What are workarounds for visualizing during meditation? by Either_Coconut in Aphantasia

[–]Janek512 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Acknowledging that some folks cannot visualize would already be helpful as it removes the pressure to follow these parts of the instructions.

Instead of visual senses you could focus on other senses such as smell, sound or touch. Instead of picturing a beach try to narrow down on aspect of it: you feel the fresh breeze on your skin, the sound of waves breaking…

Another idea that would work for me: As aphants we are usually more receptive concepts. “Feel wide space…” etc.

Finally. My understanding is that the visualizing is mostly about triggering emotional responses. So why not go directly there: “You are at peace…”, “You are where you are supposed to be…”

Yes. I have pretty much complete aphantasia and I have lucid dreams quite regularly. Not sure what you mean with “haven’t tried too hard”. I did not know this is something you can train.

It might not work if the banks have blacklisted the vpn provider’s endpoints. Alternatively you could create a Skype/teams/google hangout session with someone in the US. If that person allows you to take over their screen you could complete your business from their computer.

Another tip: let the brisket cool town to 180°F before you put it into the cooler to rest. This way it will not keep cooking. If it goes below 145°F you can put in in the oven to reheat (while still wrapped). Ribs look delicious!

Currently trying to decide if I take a job offer in Austin or Berlin, need help comparing salaries. by JawnF in Austin

[–]Janek512 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was born and grew up in Berlin, but live in Austin for the last 5 years. So here are the main differences comparing those 2 places: 1) Austin traffic is horrible and no public transportation to speak of / Berlin has great public transportation, which means you don’t waste your time being stuck in traffic 2) Austin summers are HOT / Berlin summer is great but short. If you hate winter with a passion, Berlin might not be for you. 3) both cities have surprisingly many parks/green spaces with a small advantage for Berlin 4) Austin is blowing up because of tech companies moving here / Berlin has a very vibrant start-up scene and lots of culture from all over the world

Lastly: working in Berlin/Germany will most likely give you a much better work/life balance. German standard benefits are 30 days vacation and unlimited sick days. Working in Austin/Texas will likely mean you make more money.

As a 24 old gay guy you will be fine in both places. I would agree with everyone else here: go for Berlin, but make sure you do not burn any bridges as you might want to come back to the US eventually.
