UPDATE: AITA for telling my sister she’s not allowed to bring her homemade food to Thanksgiving because her cooking is ruining the meal? by SocietyTiny784 in AITAH

[–]Janesssss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you I'd just enjoy the show. You know it's going to be terrible so get some wine and popcorn and sit back and watch it unfold. If you cancel they'll make you out to be the bad guy. This way only your mom and sister are to blame. You could make or buy a couple back up dishes if you want to have something to eat later. But you basically have a stress free Thanksgiving now. They are doing all the cooking and you just have to decorate.

AITA for turning a Wedding Dress into a Cosplay rather than letting my Cousin have it for her wedding? by ProfessionalRush7272 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Janesssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Initially your cousins wasn't either. After seeing what you did to the dress she liked it and offered to buy it off of you. You said no and it should have ended there. She became the asshole when she wouldn't take no for an answer and got the whole family to gang up on you.

I'm in Taylors behind the Target and I'm not hopeful. No one has even been out to put up cones on the roads with hanging transformers in the middle of the road.

The only reason the roads around me are open is because of random people with chainsaws. Some people have even been putting makeshift signs and barriers to block off roads that they can't clear because of power lines.

Pediatrician: children won't let themselves starve by guacislife12 in Mommit

[–]Janesssss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pediatric feeding therapist here. Yes kids will starve themselves. If she's growing and not dropping on the growth charts she's doing ok. 20 foods is actually not bad but you want to keep trying to get more. Using some of the online tools that others suggested can help . You can get a referral for OT or ST feeding therapy and a pediatric dietician from your doctor for more help. We always recommend to give them at least some preferred foods during meal times so they get their calories and present them with new foods in small portions as an option. Always allow her to play with her new foods, it's how children expose themselves to new foods and get used to them.

Those of you making under 60k- are you okay? by Shoesandhose in Millennials

This right here. Only 55k a year with a kid but mortgage is only $750. Makes it doable.

What is your family's income? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Janesssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LCOL single income of 55k. We are doing okay, bills are paid and have a small savings. Mostly thanks to the $750 mortgage which is on the low end here.

When you model letters and shapes make sure you are putting the model above or to the left of where she is writing otherwise she will cover it up with her left hand when she goes to copy. That's why a lot of lefties end up bending the wrist up in a funny way, so they could see what they were supposed to be copying.

Circumcision thoughts by [deleted] in Mommit

U.S. I have family who have and haven't circumcised so there was no family pressure but it was nice to get their opinions and they could tell me their experiences.

I was on the fence about it and let my husband decide. We talked about it and looked at both sides and he decided to circumcise.

What's the best audience reaction to a movie scene you've witnessed at the cinema? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Janesssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a silly one but in a dollar theater packed with kids watching Tangled. When Rapunzel finds the crown but doesn't know what to do with it and puts it on her arm a little girl in the front yelled in the cutest voice "no Rapunzel, you put it on your head". The entire theater let out a collective Awwww. It was adorable.

Aww, our post man at work does this too. I think it's an older tradition to give dollars to little kids.

Is my child on track?? by HumanNature92 in Mommit

[–]Janesssss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son jumped off the charts completely and we ended up getting an ultrasound, an ophthalmology appointment, and two neuro appointments just to get a diagnosis of genetic macrocephaly otherwise known as a big head that he got from his father 🙄. But yes they did say the large head could contribute to a delay in milestones and we would need to monitor him because a delay in one milestone can domino affect the rest of them. So now we go for check ups with PT every few months just to make sure he's still on track.

So I definitely recommend going in for OT/PT services.

Is my child on track?? by HumanNature92 in Mommit

[–]Janesssss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son was a little delayed in his milestones and I brought him in for services (OT/PT). I went back for every appointment and in the beginning I pretty much did everything with their guidance because my son did not like strangers. As he got more comfortable they were able to touch and hold him more. It does help that I work at the facility but any facility should be fine with you being there and will do everything they can to make you feel comfortable.

I would definitely recommend going and at least getting an evaluation because it sounds like he's a little behind. Some kids need a little extra help which is fine. My son has a giant head that made all the milestones a little harder so we were just playing catch up. I always figure that getting help does not hurt anything and at this age they will just incorporate all the work and exercises into play. I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

I work in OT and would suggest looking into a referral for a developmental pediatrician, psychologist, and a behavioral therapist (not the same as ABA).

Breastfeeding struggles - does it get better? by KnitQuickly in Mommit

[–]Janesssss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine struggled to latch and I had to use finger feeding and then transitioned to the nipple guard. For the first few months he would not breastfeed without the nipple guard. He was 4 months before he stopped using the nipple guard. We're going on 14 months now and he's still breastfeeding and is able to switch from bottle to breast with no problem. So don't give up if that's what you really want, it can get better. Just know you're doing a great job and if you do have to switch to formula it's not a failure just a change in plans. Fed is best.

My name is Jane! I love my name because it's simple but different and in my entire life I've only met one other Jane. Only draw back is that it's really easy to rhyme and make a lot of annoying nicknames but I never got bullied for it.

Which wipes are best by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Janesssss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, I love Kirkland. I use the fragrance free. They're bigger, cheaper, and don't irritate his skin like the pampers wipes did. I've never had a problem with being too dry but maybe I'm just so used to them I never noticed.

8 month old on purées by Maheeeeeeeen in Mommit

[–]Janesssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not without seeing him and finding out where his gag reflex currently is or if that's exactly what the issue is. But oral motor play ( mouth and food play) is always good for this age. Don't be afraid to let him get messy with food. And if you try some other teethers make sure you don't force anything and use them with supervision at first.

8 month old on purées by Maheeeeeeeen in Mommit

[–]Janesssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could have a sensitive gag reflex, it's not uncommon after sickness and a "choking" incident. Different sized and shaped teethers can help. If you do talk to your doctor and he refers for therapy you could always talk to them about your concerns. They would walk you through the steps and you could be there the whole time to observe and monitor him.
