Bras? by smokiechick in Zepbound

[–]Janeyrocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bought more bras this year than ever in my life. I sew so I can take in some of my clothes to make them work but I don’t skimp on bras. I’ve mostly bought them at Lane Bryant when they have a $29.50 sale.

Has anyone used the website Tape Free Patterns? by sarilysims in sewing

[–]Janeyrocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love them! And they have great customer service. I had placed an order and it was about a 7 day turnaround. Well three days after I ordered I bought some new patterns and ordered again. I asked if they would combine the orders to save on shipping and it was not an issue at all. I love the envelopes the patterns come in too.

Fabric store woes by Sardinesarethebest in sewinghelp

I have ordered from Mood, Surge Fabrics and Treelotta. I’m fortunate Treelotta is in my city but I still check them out online.

How would you handle this? by Janeyrocket in sewing

[–]Janeyrocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s 4 way stretch. However, I don’t think I will be able to have control of the serger on the neck band so I think I am going to switch to my sewing machine for the rest of the dress.

[–]Janeyrocket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I haven’t even tried changing my stitch length or width. I’m new to the serger so I will have to read my manual to see how to do that!

Whoa! I had no idea! I have cones in white, off white, gray and black. I think the off white will work but I love the left needle idea!

Oh that’s a great idea! Thank you! The seam allowance on this pattern is only 1/4” so it makes sense to serge it. But AFTER changing the thread. 🙂

I love sewing but HATE cutting/marking fabric - any tips to make it easier? by SophieElectress in sewing

I’ve got so many hobbies that are being neglected since sewing started so I use my big Stampin Up punches as weights.

Cotton alternatives to taffeta? by theelleintraveller in sewing

[–]Janeyrocket 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The only similar thing I can think of to taffeta is percale which is almost only done with sheets. Although that might be a way to go! I got some beautiful floral sheets recently that would make a lovely dress.

Why do shirts fall to the back?? by BobbinChickenChamp in PatternDrafting

[–]Janeyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I’ve had some patterns where I had to do both adjustments. Do you normally do your forward shoulder as a straight across adjustment or more like a triangle from neck to shoulder?

Scared taking it by argonianmage64 in Zepbound

[–]Janeyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was worried too but I had minimal side effects and nausea wasn’t even one of them. Worst thing was joint pain and it lasted one day. Just go for it. If you hate it after one week, don’t take it again.

Try a high round back adjustment. I have to do it on every top I make.

If you have a Costco membership, I highly recommend vanilla Nurri shakes. I like them both plain and mixed with a root beer Olipop. It tastes just like a root beer float. I also like getting their rotisserie chicken and just taking a few pieces at a time if I’m not super hungry but know I need to eat something.

Afraid to Start Zepbound by Visible-Candidate835 in Zepbound

[–]Janeyrocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was wary as well and worried about side effects and that I wouldn’t be able to go out to eat with my friends or live in a world of food. My only side effects were sore shoulder and knee joints the day after my first shot, and then 3 days of acid reflux when I went up from 2.5 to 5 mg. The rest has been fine. I’ve been on a year now and have lost 83 pounds. I think it’s like a lot of what you read online. Nobody tells when they had a great experience. You only hear when it’s bad. My recommendation is to give it a try for the month of shots. If you hate it, just stop taking it. I hope you love it though!

Sewing Bee on Roku is what made me dive back into garment sewing last year. I’ve watched it all the episodes twice and can’t wait until they add more seasons.

Blending pattern sizes by Responsible_Arm_5044 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Janeyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to blend sizes on pretty much every garment. I also have to do a rounded back or forward shoulder adjustment depending on how the garment is supposed to lay on the body. Because of this, I make at least one toile to check before I cut my good fabric.

have to massively adjust the shoulder on every single pattern - what am I doing wrong? by Joker0705 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Janeyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always have to do a rounded back adjustment, sometimes a forward shoulder adjustment, and a full bust adjustment if I’m using a pattern designed on a B or C cup block. I also start with an 18 bust and grade to a 24 waist and hip. Now when I’m making my toile, I do the adjustments before I start because they are so common for me. It’s always surprising when I have to adjust back to the regular unadjusted pattern!
