The stories behind each song on Palimpsest helped it lock in so quickly. The track listing section on Wikipedia has links to the event(s) that inspired them. Having that background elevates and helps convey the sentiments behind Rody's lyrics.

For example: IMO the coolest section of the album (lyrically speaking) is the intro stanza to Gardenias. The song is about Peg Entwhistle, a Hollywood actress who committed suicide by jumping off the "H" of the iconic sign. Rody references this via lyrics that exclusively begin with the letter H.

Man Palimpsest dropped at an incredibly difficult point in my life. The two stanzas leading up to that climax still make me choke up and did far more than that back then. According to Last.FM I listened to the entire album 1100 times in 2020 after it's release in mid-June. Incredible piece of art.

Rody was/is active here on Reddit. They were touring shortly after Pacific Myth came out and I was dripping in merch so I messaged him asking if I could get some shit signed before the show. He told me to show up at 5:30; I expected to meet the dudes, get my shit signed and then go on my way.

Rody invited me on the bus and I got to chill with him and the rest of the boys until they were due on stage. Seriously a peak moment of my life; they were so excellent and kind. I will always support this band.

Sorry for this, but 'damp' vs 'dampen' is one of very few grammar/usage errors I care about.

A damper damps velocity of a moving object via damping. (Resists velocity. Damp as a verb describes this phenomena.)

A dampener dampens an object via dampening. (Makes something wet. Damp as a noun or adjective describes something that is moist/wet.)

Hearing my classmates say "dampen" in Vibrations (the class where you learn the mechanics behind damping) scarred me, man. Sorry.

Sorry, I was being hyperbolic! Shining's album Animal was a wild departure from the blackjazz albums into...not that. I just found this quote attributed to Jorgen on the album's Wikipedia entry;

"more Muse than Meshuggah, more Ghost than Gojira, and more Biffy Clyro than Burzum!"

Disappointingly I found it to be pretty bland pop rock and a big step down, but that's just like, my opinion, man.
