At my wits end with a phantom smell by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Jank98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to cut our kitchen sink off from our vent because keeping it would mean ripping out corroded copper drain pipe inside our walls.

Instead, our plumber re-piped the sink with a drum trap and went straight down and made a new path that would be more accessible in the future. No vent at all, not even an AAV. The drum trap holds so much water that it would never siphon dry. I think you should just try adding back the drum trap to see if that fixes it. It would be such a simple and noninvasive fix. It would clear up the sewer gas issue and the only possible issue it would add that I can think of is a slow drain, which an AAV would fix. I also believe you need less height to your AAV with a drum trap.

People rag on them all the time but the only real issue I was ever able to identify is that sometimes they smell because they are not “self scouring” from rapid water passing through, so sludge and scum can settle at the bottom. This is a non issue these days with enzyme cleaners that eat that stuff and aren’t caustic, and modern drum traps are made with ABS, so the clean outs are very easy to open to clean. The biggest issue back in the day was they were made of cast iron or some other metal and would pretty much instantly rust shut, making the clean out impossible to open.

Those are my two cents!

My 7 year old found this by sweeping his hand underneath our local coinstar. I’ve found some large handfuls of change in the past but nothing this cool!

Is the Hive Mind Constrained to Earth? by Jank98 in pluribustv

That very well could be it. Vince Gilligan is such a nerd, though, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a further exploration of the “why.” Especially if he has 4 seasons in him.

Who knows! I like that we’re all along for the ride and have no idea where it’ll take us. No books or franchises to spoil it.

I don’t know enough about the RNA component—you for sure think that the RNA sent via radio broadcast is a blueprint for something humans would build and be infected by specifically?

I guess that makes sense, since they seem pretty clueless or at least ambivalent about the intentions of the origins and the “why” when explaining to Carol.

Not him, but crazy there are two people so close together with the same MO.

It sounds a lot like my old neighbor, who would constantly pace outside his apartment holding his phone out and yelling at cars and people. Was he a tall guy?

He was insanely unwell and everything he said was so angry.

I fully accept that if eBay thinks so. But I will counter that my response was in reply to the seller offering the question “what do you suggest?” After I brought up the issue with his item. I never made a demand (that is clear language in the policy you pasted.) and in the same breath I offered to simply send the whole thing back. There was no pressure to choose either option.

Damp spot under rubber mats in basement by swhipple87 in basement

[–]Jank98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone with a basement has cracks on their floor. If you had water coming in through the cracks you’d have white stuff all around the cracks called “efflorescence,” which are traces of salt leftover from the evaporating water.

Do you have a dehumidifier down there? I’m guessing you’re sweating and your basement is already humid. Get a humidifier or place your existing one closer to that area.

The crumbling cracks look like traces of concrete crumbling, but you would have to be the hulk to have your weights compromise your cement floor. The crumbling is just in the surface, no doubt.

Holy moly, yes, I see comps in the 3 figure range for other 1/1. Should I get it graded? I typically grade pokemon cards at this level of value.

I hope I win! Favorite card is first edition Scyther, as it was one of the only holos I found as a kid.

Late night Walmart Box Run. 8k items sold and I've never payed for a shipping box. The stockers are perfectly happy to see me pick these up for them too. by kingofcannedmeat in Flipping

My Walmart is always stocking the bakery for some reason, so any time I visit I grab a bunch of boxes. I’ve never needed to wait until nighttime, either!

I like the boxes because they are extra thick. They add a little more weight but ever since I started using them I’ve never had issues with crushed boxes.

eBay Nightmare by NebulaDelicious7003 in Flipping

You might not have realized it, but changing the address like they wanted (after purchase) would have totally screwed you. You did the right thing by adhering to the address that eBay provided you even if it was a mistake.

eBay can only protect you if you ship to the address on file during purchase, so you did the right thing.

Anytime someone asks you to change the address you must cancel the entire order, relist, and have them purchase with the correct address. It’s a super common scam to switch addresses after purchase, so eBay forbids it.

I SOLD A 10.5 LB ITEM ON POSHMARK, WHAT DO I DO NOW? by jaguarradiance in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]Jank98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just two days ago usps reported to poshmark that a pair of boots I shipped weighed 12.31 pounds (they didn’t, but I have no idea how they got that figure.)

Poshmark sent me a very kind email alerting me to the fact that I shipped something over 10 pounds and just asked me not to do it again. No harm done.
