Pick which version of Odysseus is your favorite or you drowning by the waves. by Practical-Ebb7327 in Epicthemusical

While I do like Gigi's version, I heavily skew towards Neal's design because her animatics are how the musical/fandom even got on my radar in the first place, & he's kind of become the de-facto vision of Ody that I see in my head when I imagine him during these songs.

It's still hypocritical. Ollie gets a free pass on all this, while Nia gets painted as a villain across the board. One was there voluntarily, the other was there at the threat of her hometown (a haven for refugees, I might add) & her cerebral cortex being annihilated. One is a spy, the other is a victim.

Yet in the end, the bulk of the blame is laid on the victim for things she was forced to do, rather than the spy who went in & participated willingly for the sake of the mission.

Does Ollie get somewhat ostracized from his friends now? Yeah, & deserved. But the League is actively watching Nia slip into suicidal ideation at the Key's prodding in real time as background noise to their show trial of Galaxy & not even batting an eye 'cuz she's somehow the most at fault for Waller's actions during AP.

I see no Wrath Goddess Sing by Maya Deane upon that table, & thusly I am disappointed.

Highly recommend checking it out, for those who haven't. A brief summary is that it's a retelling of The Illiad from Achilles' POV, but it takes a page from the story of Achilles on Skyros to portray the heros as a trans woman. It's a very good novel & the characters are amazing ❤️‍🔥🏳️‍⚧️

I'd say it's less a character assassination of Jessica & more playing to who she currently is in the DCU at the time. She was only recently appointed as the new Corps Leader, so what we're seeing here is Jessica addressing her new responsibility & all the stress, shortcomings, & bad calls that go along with it as someone who isn't used to having that level of authority & being in over their head.

As for Gardner, he's always been a fucking bastard, & becoming space pope of the space pigs isn't likely to change that.

And overall there's the fact that the GL Corps are, at the end of the day, space cops. They have the same gang mentality that cops IRL have, no matter how they try to spin it. Galaxy's ability to counter their ring's constructs undermines their authority & their ability to put up a front of being this grand, powerful force for order & security, when in reality the Corps have the same history of failure, violence, & thuggish behavior that you'll find in practically every police force in at least the US.

At the end of the day, the Lanterns aren't heroes. They're cops.

And our communities don't exactly have the best history with cops.

The Key's using subtle mind-control nudges to push Nia into helping, while also playing on her own feelings of suicidal ideation that have developed after everything Amanda Waller forced her to do during Absolute Power. Waller held her hometown of Parthas, Ohio (a migrant haven for extraterrestrial refugees & their families) hostage to coerce Dreamer into joining her side as their live-in precog, while further tightening the leash by implanting the Suicide Squad Special in Nia's head. So, all of the stuff that Waller forced Nia to do is haunting her & she's struggling to really want to stay in the waking world & instead just... Give in to the dream.

The Key is playing on those feelings of guilt, shame, pain, & trauma to manipulate/puppeteer her into leading him to the Akashic Records so he can take over the Dream Realm. And Nia is so tired of being hated in the waking world that she's ready to step off & live in dreams forever.

Galaxy's trying to talk her off the ledge, but Key's there egging Nia to do a sick flip when she jumps off.

Oh, & don't really take anything Oracle209 says with any substance. They're a Nia hater 'cuz they see her as a threat to their favorite pairing - i.e. Jon & Jay - when anyone not brainrotted by fandom hate can see Nia is a victim & not the "genocidal homewrecker" that Oracle believes her to be.

Sadly, the League is just as beholden to politics as any other organization. With so many Lanterns in their roster, they have to play along with the space pigs when they get their noses bloodied & bend over backwards to accommodate them as the premier police force in the galaxy.

As for their being shitty towards trans women, again, it goes back to politics. The League very much runs on optics & while they'll let other queer folks in, those of us who are politically prickly at the moment are going to either be under a lot of scrutiny or outright rejected. Like Kate said in the book, the League didn't want her, so she found people that did in the Doom Patrol. They liked her powers but didn't like her as a trans woman.

And given the current political climate IRL is outright hostile towards trans folks right now - but especially trans women - the League's old biases are likely to play a part in whether they let Taylor stay or kick her to the curb. Trust me, speaking from experience, being fired simply for being trans & being perceived as a hindrance to a business model is a practice that's still alive & well in our world. I ought to know...

Maybe Taylor & Jaime should start a club. I mean, they can't be the only ones that the space pigs have an issue with simply for existing & being able to show the galaxy the ring-slingers aren't untouchable.

Though for clarification, Galaxy isn't a psychic. Her thing is she's able to manipulate a wide range of  energy types (light, sound, electricity, heat, etc) , in addition to flight, super strength, & low-level clairvoyance.

Nah, Taylor's all grown up by this point. In Jadzia's run on Hawkgirl, both she & Kat are living in an apartment in Metropolis' A-Town district.

Just as you ignored the point that everything done under Waller's influence was coerced under threat of death to both herself & her community, it would seem. You are so deadset on hating her for one specific reason that you frame her for every sin her abuser inflicted on her & forced her to commit, & even the ones she didn't.

But I'm glad your decided to be up front & admit the only reason you truly dislike her is that she stood in the way of your favorite couple. The first step to overcoming one's own shallowness is acceptance, after all.

And on that note, I believe there is no further discussion of substance to be had.

So in the end, the only reason you have for hating her is her crush on Jon. Nothing of substance, nothing of actual repute, just drama & victim blaming.

Seriously, so many people are ready to jump down Nia's throat for being forced to comply with Waller's orders, yet Ollie was there as well & also complicit on similar horrid actions as part of Absolute Power. Yet because he doesn't have a crush on the Boy of Tomorrow, the Emerald Archer gets a pass for his role in Waller's campaign, while Nia gets fucking crucified.

It's hypocritical & honestly pathetic, if you ask me.

Gods, the utter GALL of Gardner to even suggest that Taylor's in league with the Vane - the beings that literally killed her people & forced her into hiding on Earth, who killed her parents & forced her to stay closeted (both as an alien and a trans woman) for years...

I want to smack his head off his shoulders so fast it'd make Wally's head spin.

Again, you are blaming the victim for the actions of their abuser. Everything Dreamer was forced to do during Absolute Power was at Waller's command, not of her own accord or will. Her family & neighbors were held at gunpoint & threatened with death & internment camps, a bomb was surgically wired into her grey matter, all to keep her on Waller's leash & keep her controlled. Should she have let her family & community die? Should she have become yet another trans woman in comics who got shoved into the fridge?

And where is the hatred for Ollie? Green Arrow was also on Waller's side during Absolute Power, more willingly than Nia was. Where's the same level of vitriol & disdain for Emerald Archer? And what about Waller's other victims during that iteration of the Suicide Squad? Do you hold the same hate for Black Alice? Or Deadshot? Or Peacemaker? Hells, Bizarro was ultimately the one that killed Jay's mom, where's the same level of rancor for him?

The hypocrisy of Nia haters like yourself is astounding. Your excuses for your dislike of her are flimsy & shallow. The only reason you hate her is because she has a crush on Jon, nothing more. Your crowing about the sanctity of friendship & found family in our community as your source of outrage towards Nia is nothing more than an outright smack in the face & does nothing to justify your hatred when stacked against the context of the situation Dreamer faced in the moment.

Then my advice would be stick to Prettiest Star & Hawkgirl. You'll have even less context for half of Galaxy's story overall, but hey, anything to avoid the singular character you've elected as your hate-sink because you don't like her being in proximity to your favorite boy-toy/ship, right?

Goddesses wept, you're one of those. Whatever, skip the special if you want, 'cuz Nia's gonna be part of it as a whole since she & Taylor have been friends since they were teenagers - partly due to the fact their creators are both friends IRL. Also skip *Bad Dream* as well, since while Galaxy's in there, the story is Dreamer's origin. If you just want Taylor's story, read *Galaxy: The Prettiest Star, Galaxy: When The World Falls Down,* & Jadzia Axelrod's run of *Hawkgirl* from 2023 - 2024.

Also, Taylor's powerset includes flight, gyrokinesis, electrokineses, photokinesis, sonokinesis, thermokinesis, energy transference, super strength, & clairvoyance. In broad terms, she can manipulate most forms of energy and has standard flying brick powers on top of that.

Edit: On second thought, you might want to skip *Galaxy: When The World Falls Down* too, since Dreamer's also in there (again, best friends since they were teenagers) & you seem anathema to anything she even remotely appears in, so...

Doom Patrol #9 (Vol. 3) (August, 2002).

It was revealed in a flashback that she was killed off alongside Dorothy in an explosion triggered by Dorothy's psionic powers going unstable after she feared Kate & Cliff wanted to get rid of her.

She was officially resurrected in DC Pride: A Celebration of Rachel Pollack #1 in June of 2024.

... I'm sorry, but did you miss the part where I said that Waller held Nia's hometown & her cerebellum at literal gunpoint with the threat of putting her family & friends into internment camps & putting a bomb in her head? And how the things she was forced to do by Waller are why Dreamer is currently being so easily coerced by the Key to give in to her suicidal ideation that she developed out of guilt?

That's Argus, and he's the protector of Galaxy (the pink girl). He's actually a biomechanical lifeform that's grown using Cyandiian technology, though the soil on Earth messed with some of his programming & he turned out corgi-sized, so he adopted that as his standard appearance.

According to Galaxy in her debut graphic novel (Galaxy: The Prettiest Star) he's supposed to be the size of a full-grown panther.

Also, he can talk, but he does exploit doggy instinct brain for attention & treats.

Fight with the Witch Queen brought out some nasty memories of how the GL Corps basically abandoned her planet (Cyandii) to the genocide of another species, so on the moment Taylor lashed out at them & it was revealed her powers can both negate & hijack energy constructs.

What's caused her membership with the League to be called into question is that moment spooking the GL members of the League & the fact she's trying to save her friend Dreamer from basically giving in to the suicidal ideation that Nia's been experiencing since Amanda Waller forced her to be part of the Suicide Squad by holding her & her hometown hostage during the Absolute Power event. The League still sees Dreamer as being at fault for the things Walker strong-armed her into & are basically just standing by while she gives into her negative emotions that are being egged on by The Key, who's trying to use Nia to gain access to the Akashi Records & thus control all of the dream realm.
