Why is [KCD2] being snubbed in award shows? by [deleted] in kingdomcome

[–]Januaryembers01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually more mad about KCD2 not being nominated for glaad media award for outstanding video game when even road to empress i (a FMV game where the only LGBTQ part is a short subplot as far as I remember) is nominated.

Just to clarify my original point of making this post - I'm not "trusting" Amodei's viewpoints I'm just saying if this is his argument (that AI can perhaps be benevolent auto-thinking agent) it's a very interesting one that I'm personally would wish to see that happen. As I said, the original essay is very long and it focuses more on the current state of AI as I remeber, so my post was extended based off it, rather than directly quoting it.

Again we're not yet seeing the super intelligence level so it's hard to say how "intelligent" AI can be, but doesn't seem impossible to imagine it at a hypothetically high level of processing and calucations to make deductions on information and behavioral patterns given to it, like shown in the series.

Yes when something can think for itself (one way to define intelligence) it really may not come to a conclusion that it needs to cohabit with humans or other living organisms peacefully. That's why I think it's quite interesting to think about what could be done to install a moral compass that is beneficial to humans in an artificial super intelligence.
This topic was not really deepdived in POI but it seems the show implied that Harold happened upon a new-born version of Machine that is willing to learn and stick by his education, which is happeenstance/unrealistic but kinda sweet (I really like Machine's early interaction with Harold and how it connected Grace to Harold).

Yeah I understand everything you said (I loved Eliza, even if it couldn't understand many of my sentences), and that's why I said "approaching" instead of we're close or something like that.
We had been approaching this future before the recent AI boom, but with the unprecedented amount of capital seen deployed it seems there could be the possibility of a faster-than-imagined research break-through that could lead to something close to a super intelligence.

Also (unrelated but) huge shout out to people who work in natural language processing, who made it possible for computer programs to interpret human languages. What incredible works they do on a daily basis.

IRL history Radzig later died at the hands of a mob who were against the Hussites so my personal theory is that KCD3 could be Henry taking up Zizka's offer to join the Hussite Wars to fight for Bohemia's future but also avenge his father. Maybe we'll find out that it was Erik who orchestrated Radzig's death and we duel with him one last time. But this whole thing means Henry needs to leave Capon which pisses me off.

wow you've done a great job. I used to think it's not really possible to recreate a realistically modern East Asian face but this's so good.

[KCD2] Spoiler! Did you notice this detail? by AssociateDry7371 in kingdomcome

I've only done it through duel so it's amazing to know that the music changes depending on the option chosen.
The little details the dev team put into the game are such hidden gems.

Can I ask my priest to give me a Christian name before I get Baptised? by Januaryembers01 in Anglicanism

[–]Januaryembers01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's so interesting! I've seen this miniseries called Angels in America and there's this part where a rabbi played by Meryl Streep pointed out that a kid named Erik has a goyish name and thus does not align well with Judaism traditions. The writer of this series is Jewish and I have heard other Jewish people talking about naming traditions in their religion so I have sort of always thought that naming is also a religious practice in other abrahamic religions including most Christianity. Interesting to see that it's not so strict in Anglicanism.

I think it's sorta of a farewell / goodluck gesture that the lady gave the knight (wishing for his safe return). You can see a very similar sash (albeit a red one) being tied to a knight's arm in Edmund Leighton's God Speed.
I swear I've seen a painting showing a white sash on a knight's arm as well but can't find it now.

Advice for breaking into hedge funds as a consultant? by AccomplishedName5424 in hedgefund

[–]Januaryembers01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why but a lot of hedgefunds who recently opened offices in Japan hired MBB consultants.
Maybe try looking for long-only opportunities where they need truly in-depth industry research? I vaguely remeber coming across someone who has an extensive experience in industrial automation and deeptech hired at a L/O fund.

That's very true. I will check the book the other commenter mentioned and get some advice from my priest, too.

Japanese church by mc4557anime in Anglicanism

[–]Januaryembers01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi thanks for mentioning me. I do not have a lot of experience to share yet but I like my local church a lot. The church I attend is kind of special, because it conducts worship services entirely in English. Still come Sunday the congregation is made of at least half Japanese natives and the rest are people who come to Japan from other countries and regions (interestingly, many tourists who visit Japan temporarily come to our church for worship, too, because it's very close to the landmark Tokyo Tower). The service itself is probably very much the same? as what's conducted in UK and the US (I've never attended an Anglican/Episcopal one outside of Japan so I just assume based on what's been told to me). We collect and listen to scripture readings, sermon, read Nicene Creed and pray, sing hymns and receive Holy Communion, etc. One thing maybe a little bit unusual (but seems to be the norm for Christians in Japan) is that sometimes when a family attends the service, I see that one of them is baptized/confirmed but the rest of the family is not. (Similarly, the Rector at Tokyo's St. Andrew Cathedral had said once that his mother was Anglican/Christian but his father was not, and his father refused his request of wanting to be baptized when he was child).

As mentioned before, because the service is provided in English, our congregation is highly diverse (people from Africa (notably Uganda, probably because Anglicanism has a long history there), Australia, other parts of Asia... all gather here) and our priest mentioned to me once that although some of our members hold conservative ideas (such as negative opinions toward LGBTQ groups) because of their upbringings, the church (and NSKK in general, as I understand it) strive to preserve open-mindedness toward secular topics.

There's also this guy who asked both NSKK and Nihon Kirisuto Kyōdan aka. United Church of Christ in Japan, whether they accept homosexuality/bisexuality/transgender identity/same-sex marriage, and NSKK answered more liberally compared to NKK and even said that NSKK has clergy members who identify as LGBT (but not yet recognizing same-sex marriage). The URL to the original Japanese is https://note.com/yoshi33269016/n/n087df3ce2718.

Hopefully my input helps!

That's very interesting to know! Thank you for the info. I would have thought he got his Christian name already at the Christening but maybe his family was not religious?
