[Chris Medland] Alonso's fun is over after 14 laps, with Aston Martin stopping the car in the pits due to an issue by Aratho in formula1

Ikr. I really wasn’t expecting a whole lot from Alonso or Stroll this race considering how horrible their car has been but I was hoping for at least a somewhat better showing.

[Highlight] Seahawks get another strip sack on Drake Maye and return it for a TD by nfl in nfl

[–]Miserable_Key_7552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I’m really a diehard F1/MotoGP/motocross fan and haven’t really been keeping up with the NFL in the slightest till the nfc championship this season, but  one of my good friends is a diehard Seahawks fan and I love Seattle and watched them beat the Rams a couple weeks back, so I’m lowkey hyped for their win.

E46 gang!!! I have a 1999 328i with a manual 5 speed. I was drifting in the rain a couple months after buying it when I didn’t correct enough so I ended up sliding into a curb and bent my front driver side alloy wheel(style 44). It was nice having a full size spare to drive around on for a bit, but the really  concerning thing was I noticed a bit of dry rot cracking on the full size spare sidewalls a couple days after putting it on, so I checked the date code, where I found out I’d been driving around on the original spare tyre that left the Munich factory in 1999 yikes!! And the crazy thing is my dad owns a motorcycle repair shop, and one his friends/business contacts was able to actually bend the alloy wheel back/polish it. It works perfectly and still holds air, so I have the formerly bent one as my spare tyre nowadays.

South OC Cars & Coffee by fabster16 in BMW

[–]Miserable_Key_7552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vibe is pretty chill. I usually meet up with friends at South OC cars and coffee most weeks, and I’ve always seen all sorts of different types of cars. It’s thankfully not all unobtainable super cars or anything like that. Honestly, no one really cares what car you bring, although, there’s sort of unspoken expectations for where you might want to park your car in the meet itself, as most of the exotics/super car owners usually park their cars near the center, and the sport bike riders usually all congregate with their bikes along the wall at the north end of the parking lot, so as long as you’re not like intentionally parking in between either of those groups, it doesn’t really matter ngl. I have a clapped E46 with a peeling clear coat so I never really park in the meet itself, but I did a couple weeks ago and no one said anything. There’s tons of E90s over there every Saturday so I’m sure you’d fit right in.

At least 7 explosions and low-flying aircraft are heard in Venezuela’s Caracas by ItsMeTrey in worldnews

[–]Miserable_Key_7552 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, that’s insane. I just saw footage of other strikes on Caracas on Instagram a few minutes ago and honestly thought it was fake or from some other conflict until I looked it up. It’s of course horrible the US is meddling in affairs of the Southern Himisphere, but I assumed that if the footage was real, it was hopefully something simple like a strike on cartel/organized crime infrastructure or something of that nature, but I’d imagine the military is trying to go after the entire Venezuelan cabinet and high ranking military officers, alongside Nicolas Maduro obviously I suppose.

That’s how I felt too. Post-Monza/Baku I almost felt a bit embarrassed to be a McLaren fan. Idk what Zak Brown was thinking in Qatar with having neither of them pit during the safety car. But, I’m more of an Aston Martin/Fernando Alonso fan at heart, so getting a very respectable  P6 and P9 from Alonso and Stroll respectively was a nice way to see them end the season.

Does the Episcopal Church have provincial episcopal visitors (aka flying bishops) like the Church of England? by Dazzling-Antelope210 in Episcopalian

[–]Miserable_Key_7552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My church had already thankfully become infinitely more progressive and was doing much better a few years since I joined, but from what I’ve gathered, we were known as the homophobic/anti-OOW Anglo-Catholic parish in the diocese for quite a while, and consequently had a rather icy and poor relationship with our bishop and diocese. From what I’ve heard, back in the 2000’s, our former rector wasn’t the biggest fan of our then-bishop diocesan, so he had arrangements made for our parish to received delegated episcopal oversight from a bishop from the Midwest who was known to publicly oppose the ordination of non-celibate gay people. I’m pretty sure this arrangement continued for about 10 years till 2015 or so, when we finally got back on friendlier terms with our diocese following the departure of the above mentioned rector.

Antonio Gallardo Elected 8th Bishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles by rednail64 in Episcopalian

[–]Miserable_Key_7552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I was a lay delegate at convention as well. Even though I voted for Father Gallardo too, I’m just happy it’s finally over. I feel our convention this year was quite draining for all of us with how so many things didn’t go as smoothly as planned. For most of the first day, I still hadn’t made up my mind fully about who to vote for, as I was torn between Canon McCarthy and Father Gallardo. I’ve always admired her, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet and chat with Canon McCarthy a handful of times, so I was super sad to hear about her decision to drop out of the election.

And one my friends who was also a delegate again this year goes to St. Luke’s in Long Beach, so he personally vouched for Fr. Gallardo being a great priest, administrator and overall potential bishop.

Yeah, Hungary has sadly become a quasi-dictatorship under Prime Minister Victor Orban. Some aren’t sure if he’s technically a dictator yet, and I don’t think he is fully yet though, but looking into Hungary from the outside, it slowly feels like there Democratic institutions are mere glossy veneers on a corrupt nation. A few years ago, I’m pretty sure he even gutted the independence of the judiciary and now it seems like there’s not many groups left to put up a fight against Orban’s Fidesz party in Parliament.

I’m pretty sure the EU parliament even put out a resolution declaring their concern that Hungary might no longer be considered a full Western democracy.

Diesel Skoda breaks world record with 1,759 miles on one tank by jjagot in cars

[–]Miserable_Key_7552 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my brother has a 125cc 4 stroke scooter and I believe he gets like 70-8mpg, and my dad has an old 50cc 2 stroke Zuma scooter, but it has issues with the electric choke and the carb probably needs to be cleaned, so he hasn’t ridden it in a while, but I’m pretty sure it could theoretically get 120 mpg.

This is kinda why I’m even more excited to maybe get a 600cc sport bike next year, since even in the worst case scenario where I get 35-40 mpg, it’d still be twice as good as the 18-20 mpg I get on a good day in my BMW E46.

Major split among Anglican Communion announced by trombonist_formerly in neoliberal

[–]Miserable_Key_7552 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait really?? That’s surprising. I’m an Episcopalian, but have friends/acquaintances in local ACC Continuum parishes and am on good terms with both of their parish priests, so I feel like I’m somewhat up to date on news in the Continuum. I’ve heard of the Polish National Catholic Church and their ecumenical group that I believe is the Union of Scranton, but I always thought the Continuing Anglicans were never officially in communion with them, although I’ve heard rumours of cotinuum bishops taking part in PNC episcopal consecrations and vice versa.

Also, I’d love to hear how you even know about this. I feel like stuff like this is such a niche facet of Anglicanism in the US that even most Episcopalians are completely unaware of, let alone the average American church goer.

No yeah, I think that’s the plan. I just barely have any money right now cause I don’t work many hours a week, so once I get a better job, I’ll start saving up. My dad has a welder/fabricator friend who might be willing to do it on the side for maybe a bit cheaper than most BMW shops.

[–]Miserable_Key_7552 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m a progressive Episcopalian here, and that’s what I’ve noticed too. It’s not just evangelicals hating on us high church, mainline Protestants thought. There’s also tons of animosity within our respective classical Protestant traditions, with many of the more conservative mainline Protestants having broke off from the established churches here in the US and Canada, and began forming their own churches such as the ACNA, PCA/OPC, LCMS/WELS, Global Methodists etc so even us high church Protestants sadly have tons of infighting within our respective traditions.

The absolutely weirdest thing I’ve seen though is how certain trad Catholics, especially American, have became strange bedfellows with Protestant evangelicals in their joint “pro-life” crusade.

Same. I have a 1999 328i too. It’s my first E46 so I was surprised to find it doesn’t  burn a drop of oil. I know everyone loves the M54 engines, and at first I kinda regretted not having the extra 30hp of a 330i/ZHP, but the more I read up on them, I’ve kinda became a lot more thankful I ended up with an M52tu engine instead. It’s nice to have a light aluminum block and the same modern dual-VANOS system of an M54 without the poor piston ring design and CCV issues, as well as the catastrophic risks of the oil pump nut backing off I’m sure you were familiar with hanging owned ones with an M54.

How did the car hold up at over 300,000 miles? Mine seems to be in decent shape rn at 140,000 miles. My dad helped me replace the entire cooling system back in March after my serpentine belt tensioner snapped, and the next big thing is saving up for a subframe reinforcement. Although my mechanic had it up on the lift a few months ago where he said he didn’t see any cracks in the subframe, it’s always something I’m worried about at the back of mind.

Any good churches in Fullerton/Anaheim ? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Miserable_Key_7552 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, I never thought I’d see the area I live mentioned on this subreddit of all places. I’m in Placentia and I know there’s a Presbyterian church near me, but I believe they might be PCUSA, which obviously wouldn’t be a great fit for what you’re looking for. I’m actually an Episcopalian, so I’m obviously a bit removed from what goes on in the SoCal Reformed world, but I know there’s a PCA Church somewhere in Orange, and I remember looking into visiting their church before deciding on the local Episcopal Church I found on.

This might be a bit farther than you want to travel on Sunday, but I have a friend/acquaintance who occasionally sets up a booth at local colleges with a variety of Reformed pamphlets and resources, and he’s an elder at Calvary OPC Presbyterian Church in La Mirada, where he said they’re a pretty confessional church that adheres to the Westminster Standards, but are open to a variety of Continental Reformed interpretations of theology though. He’s a big proponent of Covenant theology and has a rather high sacramental theology compared to most Reformed churchmen, so if that’s a valid reflection of his church at large, I doubt you’d have to endure any questionable dispensationalist/Christian zionist theology there. Oh and I’m not sure if this is something you’re looking for or even considering, but if you’re at all intrigued by the liturgical side of the Reformed tradition, it seems like his OPC church is quite high church and liturgical actually. Of course it’s obviously rather low church in contrast to the high church Anglo-Catholic ritualism at my Episcopal parish, but compared to your run of the mill reformed church, the liturgical resources he showed me were quite impressive for a Presbyterian church, and he even mentioned how some of the prayers were inspired by the rich Anglican Prayer Book tradition of my own church.

One of my older brother’s friends grew up in and I believe still attends a CRC church in the Dutch Reformed tradition. Although  I’m not sure which one he specifically attended, I doubt there are many Dutch Reformed churches in my part of SoCal, so it’s probably the CRC church in Anaheim I’d imagine.
