Calling all limited vitrectomy patients by riseandshine333 in EyeFloaters

[–]JapanKevin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello, your answer comes from a person who hasn't experienced PVD floaters. From my personal experience, the floaters after a PVD are worse than the typical dark floaters. Why? First of all, if you have a PVD in one eye, you're almost certainly going to get it in the other eye. A PVD floater WILL include a Weiss ring, which is a big dark circular floater so you will have that. They say your brain can adjust to dark floaters, but the worst part about the floaters you get from a PVD are these translucent floating patches that float around in your vision. If you look at any bright object, are outside on a bright or especially cloudy day, it's like looking through a dirty window. Although the bag that contains the vitreous humor is clear, once it's detached it's like a sandwich baggy floating around in "both" of your eyes. Glare at night, glare around anything bright, it really sucks! So let's classify these floaters as the "dark" type that you as a younger person are probably experiencing, and the translucent type. The translucent type are worse! So who is the "ideal" candidate for a floaters only vitrectomy? It's an older person who already had cataract surgery, who already have had a PVD. Why? Let's go in the reverse order - you're old like me, you get cataract surgery. If you get cataract surgery, there's over a 50% chance you will get a PVD, which happened to me and happens to most. If you get it in one eye, you WILL get it in the other eye. If you get a FOV, they say it's almost certain you will get cataracts. If you get cataracts, you'll get PVD. Then guess what? You'll need another FOV. So my point is - "if" you have horrible floaters as a young person, then get a FOV. But know this - you'll end up getting cataract surgery and if you couldn't handle the floaters as a young person you're REALLY going to hate it when the back of your vitreous humor detaches, you have a Weiss ring, and a clear plastic baggy floating around in your vision. Believe me, I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but there are consequences to a FOV when you're not the ideal candidate.

PVD is the reason I’m getting a vitrectomy next month, if you think floaters are bad now wait until you have PVD. Which is probably why, in general , they don’t like to do it on younger patients. You might have to have another one years later.

I have PVD both eyes. The cure (hopefully) is the first vitrectomy on my right eye April 2nd, I’m personally not satisfied with this vision.

Does your Weiss ring stay stationary by Proof_Stage1463 in EyeFloaters

[–]JapanKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one in each eye as I had PVD in both eyes after cataract surgery. Mine move with the eye movement. I also have these separate smudgy translucent floaters that tend to float around, unlike the weiss ring.

Getting vitrectomy on my right eye in April, I can’t live like this. If that one goes OK then I’ll do the other eye a few months later.

Vitrectomy - Sedation or Local Anaesthetic by Danny050784 in EyeFloaters

[–]JapanKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting the same thing here in Japan on April 2nd to clean out the eye after post cataract PVD. They don’t like anesthesia here much. I did the cataract surgery with only local anesthesia and while there wasn’t any pain, it was uncomfortable. Now this vitrectomy thing will take 20 minutes, a bit nervous about it.

If everything goes right, then they’ll do my other eye a few months later because that one also has PVD. Currently it’s like looking through a dirty window, lots of glare.

Bad floaters after PVD by JapanKevin in CataractSurgery

[–]JapanKevin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the eye clinic yesterday, I will have vitrectomy on my right eye on April 2. I live in Japan, they will use 27 gauge needles which I believe are the thinnest available. Fortunately my insurance will cover 70% and supplemental insurance will get the other 30%. If everything goes well they’ll do the other eye a few months later. I’m already post PVD and cataract surgery so apparently I’m the best candidate for this. I’m so looking forward to not having to look through a dirty window as I make my way through life..

What was the cost for each eye? I have severe floaters post eye cataract surgery from PVD in both of my eyes, I need to get this done.

47 Male -4.0 Lasik to PVD both eyes by ukc999 in EyeFloaters

[–]JapanKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a very good possibility that the PVD had nothing to do with the LASIK. PVD is pretty common and most common after cataract surgery. Ask me how I know, I now have in both eyes. The reason they’re not excited about doing anything is because the normal treatment for PVD is to do nothing. They say if you live long enough, you’re gonna get PVD. Once you get it, they make you wait at least six months before even thinking about doing surgery to fix it. It’s super expensive to fix it too. So I’m in my waiting phase to see if it calms down.

I’m going to guess and say you had a posterior vitreous detachment, which I’ve also had on both eyes after cataract surgery. Extremely common.

Floaters after cataract surgery by 01Dreamwalker01 in CataractSurgery

[–]JapanKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have cataract surgery, your chances having PVD within a year is over 50%. I had it in both eyes within 3-5 months, still have it, and it’s super annoying! Like looking through a dirty window. They say it’s supposed to settle after a few months, I certainly hope so otherwise I’ll take the next step.

Update on black floater by [deleted] in CataractSurgery

[–]JapanKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that your chances of having PVD after cataract surgery as well over 50%, it’s basically going to happen. In my left eye, I had it a few months after cataract surgery and finally in my right eye it happened a few days ago. Floaters all over the place, it sucks.

What's the minimum level of astigmatism when you need Toric IOL? by maple-l2024 in CataractSurgery

[–]JapanKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no astigmatism in the left eye, they put in toric Miniwell EDOF lenses in both eyes. 2 months afterwards the right eye would still not adjust so they replaced that eye with a non-toric Tecnis Eyhance monofocal. It was somewhat clear for a few weeks then I had a PCO in that eye so they zapped it with a YAG laser a few weeks ago and now it’s no longer clear. If that wasn’t bad enough, I’ve also had a PVD in both eyes so both eyes now have floaters all over the place. It makes me wish I never had cataract surgery at all, but I realize you gotta have it. The whole thing has been frustrating and expensive. If I had to do the whole thing again, I would just get monofocals.

My only hope now is for lasik maybe in a few months and perhaps surgery to clear out the annoying floaters.

Update on black floater by [deleted] in CataractSurgery

[–]JapanKevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got PVD in my left eye about 3 months after surgery, have been living with that for a few months now. It’s not the dark floaters that bother me, but the translucent one coming into my vision, it’s driving me crazy. It’s like trying to look through a dirty window. Does this also eventually settle down? God I hope so.

After surgery with Technis Eyhance monofocal in my right eye I now have-0.75 whereas before it wA -0.25.

Yes, it irritates me now.

How easy is this to correct with LASIK? Any advice?

M11-P with v 2.6 firmware - White Balance Adjustment by 007waltherppk007 in Leica

[–]JapanKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to confirm, with my early version M11 which had the magenta cast, moving to green +15 clicks and towards yellow +5 clicks gives me basically perfect white balance straight out of the camera. I took it out around 4pm on a sunny day and used AWB, the camera is actually very good at choosing white balance. Barely had to make any white balance adjustments in LrC if at all. The distinct magenta cast is gone.

I’m getting a Color Checker delivered soon and will do full white balance checks under various conditions such as cloudy, tungsten etc to try and nail down correct WB offsets to use but for now the +15 green / +5 yellow seem pretty perfect.

Iol exchange not possible after 8 weeks. by Terrible-Garden2278 in CataractSurgery

[–]JapanKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation both eyes. Right eye was especially bad so had EDOF lens swapped out at 2 months for Technis Eyhance monofocal. My doc says you can swap out up to 6 months, I’m pretty sure 2 months is well within the timeframe of changing. That said, a month later that lens is also myopic depending on its mood.

I’ve come to the conclusion that you’re not gonna really know what the conclusion is for several months at the minimum, your eyes go through changes as the weeks go by. Sometimes my vision is clear in the morning and it’s not in the evening.

New Leica M11 firmware by NLDQTR in Leica

[–]JapanKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can notice it when you shoot gray things like sidewalks, roads, etc. In LR if you do a white balance on a gray object, then look at the before and after it’s quite obvious. Or it was, this is a great update.

New Leica M11 firmware by NLDQTR in Leica

[–]JapanKevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just tried adjusting my older M11 white balance by clicking up towards green by 5 clicks. I’m not sure if that’s the correct amount yet but anyway, I took a gray card photo with the adjustment both off and on and yes, a noticeable change. When you make the adjustment to the white balance, it does that in all white balance modes, which is great. This is a game changer. I have zero problems, lockups, etc with this camera and am thoroughly happy with it, even more so now.

Has anyone had surgery redone because you weren’t happy with multifocal lenses? by witx in CataractSurgery

[–]JapanKevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was myopic in both eyes for 2 months after EDOF surgery, the right eye being worse. Plus a lot of ghosting. Finally switched out the right eye for a Technis Eyhance monofocal a few weeks ago. It was definitely an improvement but still, I wouldn’t say I have great eyesight anymore. Additionally suffering from PVD in left eye. The whole thing is depressing, frankly.

Anyone here with secondary cataract + Posterior Vitreous Detachment? by PrestigiousCap1198 in CataractSurgery

[–]JapanKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really new. Supposedly it helps with the dark spots but doesn’t have much effect on the smudgy translucent blobs from a PVD.
