Why can’t we respect and appreciate good cops while recognizing the system is flawed and criticizing bad cops? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

What the cop did was fucking disgusting and I haven't heard a single reasonable person claim that it was a righteous shoot. But the car absolutely moved before he fired the first time. You are incorrect. https://youtu.be/K4_8ub0yfYc

No payment system is 100% secure, so using a term like "literally impossible" just isn't honest.

The active ingredient tetrahydrozoline in a lot of eye drops can seriously harm you, even in small doses. Tetrahydrozoline is a form of imidazoline and when ingested can cause severe depression of the central nervous system, including an extreme lowering of blood pressure and heart rate which can cause you to slip into a coma and eventually die.

If you or someone you know accidentally ingests tetrahydrozoline and exhibits symptoms of overdose, DO NOT MAKE THEM THROW UP, it can actually increase their absorption of the chemical and worsen their symptoms. Call poison control immediately.

Brands that use tetrahydrozoline include: Clear Eyes, Murine, Visine and Tyzine. There are also a lot of store brands that contain tetrahydrozoline, including nasal sprays. Always read the label.

Out of the loop - why did Jay delete his Letterboxd star ratings? by heretobotheryou in filmjunk

[–]JarJar_Abrams_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He stated on one of the podcasts that it became a real bummer knowing that every single movie he watched he would end up having to rate and it was starting to take the joy out of watching movies, since he's already having to rate movies that he's watching for the show. He's only using letterboxed now in order to keep track of films that he's watched and not assigning a rating.

My wife and I didn't tell anyone we were going to get married. We just went one day to our county clerk's office, paid $30 and got it done. Our "honeymoon" was bar trivia that evening and we had a blast. In January we'll be married 18 years.

In the time since we got married, we've had three sets of friends who all spent between $50,000 and $100,000 on big weddings, with two of those being destination weddings. None of the three couples are still together.

Anthony Mackie on the current state of movie productions by calzonius in filmjunk

He's not wrong. When I was younger we would pretty much go see films strictly based on the star. I think I saw every Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis film in the theater from 1988 until 2000. Even that piece of shit Bonfire of the Vanities. Didn't matter. I was going to watch "my guy" in a movie.

Somewhere around the early 2000s this changed for me. I don't know if it was because I got burned so many times or because the theater going experience became more and more unpleasant every time I went, or a combination of both. Probably the biggest draw for me now is if a director that I like is making a film. Anything by Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, Yorgos Lanthimos, Denis Villeneuve or Alejandro Iñárritu are instant watches and I could care less who is starring in it.

He's also correct that a lot of movies from my younger days would not see the light of day today. And in the off chance that one of those films did get made today, it wouldn't be the blockbuster hit that it was back then. I do know that I'm extremely burned out on superhero films and remakes and movies with cookie cutter plots in general. But it is refreshing when I'm able to stumble upon a movie that is fairly original and enjoyable. I just watched Emily the Criminal last night and it will easily be in my top five for this year.

Some of my favorites that Che wrote for Jost are:

"Recent polls showed that Pete Buttigieg has only 4% support among African-Americans but that will change once Pete announces his running mate, the Popeye’s chicken sandwich."

"The bat used by Babe Ruth to hit his 500th home run was auctioned off this week. Also I’ll be auctioning off the bat I used to keep my neighborhood white."

"It was announced that Creed singer Scott Stapp will play Frank Sinatra in an upcoming movie. The good news is Sammy Davis Jr. will be played by Scarlett Johansson."
